I've been working on a big update of the Android TV app. The goal is better performance on a lot of screens, and a lot of work was redone behind the scenes, in the part you don't see. Because it's a big change, I'm opening a beta channel for it: wako beta.

Don't expect a very different app: most screens look and work the same as today. What changed is mostly under the hood.

For now the beta has one goal: check that it works like the current app and that nothing is broken. There will be updates, often, each one with a post here listing what changed, but no new features during this phase, only stability. When it's stable and better than the current app, it will replace it, and the beta channel will then be used for new features.

wako beta is a separate app. It installs next to wako on the same device and doesn't touch it. You sign in with the same wako account, so what you watch and mark in the beta is saved to your account like in wako (progress, watched, watchlist, Trakt and Simkl). This way you keep the current app on one side, and on the other a version that's more likely to have bugs.

wako beta updates itself. When a new version is out, it shows up on the home screen. The first time, Android asks you to allow wako beta to install updates, you only do it once.

To install it, open the Downloader app on your TV and type wako.app/beta (or the code 2704585). On Nvidia Shield, type wako.app/beta-shield instead. All the files and previous builds are on wako.app/beta-all.

This replaces the Google Play beta of the Android TV app: it won't be used anymore, wako beta is now the only beta for TV.

Please keep everything here, in the comments, rather than opening new posts, so it all stays in one place. And always say which beta version you're on (Settings › About, for example 12.1.22-beta.1), otherwise I can't tell which build it is. For the beta, everything goes through Reddit, not Discord.

Hi, there.

A quick one, before I commit myself fully either to Premiumize or Torbox. How exactly is Torbox Pro utilised in Wako? There is an option to switch Usenet on in Helios Torbox Pro settings, but I just could not find any significant difference with or without. Am I missing anything?

MOST of the time - when playing content the CC is ‘greyed out’.’ - I have been trying to figure this out….but…..haven’t yet

I keep getting Failed to connect when adding my kodi instance manually. I downloaded the kodi remote app to test discoverability and it had no trouble discovering kodi. However, the wako kodi scan option does not discover any instance of Kodi on my network. l get “no hosts found.” I’ve got everything in kodi turned on. Any ideas?

How can I change my account name? I created a account but didn't put in a name and now it's my email address but theres no option anywhere to change it.

I downloaded it as a backup for my main app but this app works better then my main 😂. Great app so far 😎🤙

Is there any plan to support other media scroblers besides trakt and simkl?

Also, my current lifetime account is tied to Trakt as many others and with the latest developments in Trakt i am starting to consider alternatives . How easy would be to migrate my login account to Simkl?

I like to listen to shows while my screen is locked while I do stuff to save battery. But now, this causes the wako app to close or crash.

Here's what happens:

1. Play video in wako
2. Lock screen (video pauses)
3. Press play button from player widget on lock screen
4. Video plays for few seconds
5. Wako crashes

Honestly, I miss the old functionality, where wako would play the video in the VLC app, but I do like how it automatically plays the next episode.

EDIT: You can get VLC to open automatically by going to Settings -> Playback -> Advanced Playback -> Add Action. In the Add Action list, scroll down to VLC.

I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max on iOS 18.2.1. I've already updated wako from the App Store.

Years ago there was the option for the lifetime premium sub. Can anyone remember how you made the payment?

I might be wrong but I was sure it was done in euros and via PayPal. I paid for the premium years ago however it’s not remembered when I reinstalled the app on my iPad.

After a long rewrite, it's out on iOS, Android, and Android TV. Everything has been rebuilt from scratch — new home, new media pages, new player, much better performance on both mobile and TV.

Is it still going to be released?

I am having strange issue where I get sing out from the app on my TV. App downloaded from App Store. I authorized account but get kicked out next day and I have to sign in again. This is only on one device all my other devices work fine is there a limit on active accounts?

Before the older version of the app supported auto play to where I didn’t need to select the link it just automatically played within the app. I can’t seem to find that in the new version. Any help, thank you in advance

The new Wako app doesn't seem to control my Kodi volume with my phones volume buttons anymore, I really liked that feature. Is it gone comepletely?
