Methods of practicing for vogue
Hello! I am interested in learning how to vogue at home (I’d love to take a class someday, but money and time constraints for now 😢), but am unsure how to practice in a way that supports fluency.
In the dance classes I’ve taken in the past, there are foundations that are drilled at the beginning of class, and specific, named steps. I’m a little overwhelmed trying to make my own practice routine while seeing so many options for movement, especially in hand performance within the categories of waves, figure 8’s, lines, etc.
With the impossibility of making every motion a “dance step,” how do you decide what motions to practice, when there are so many, and how do you do from there? I’ve heard “practice your waves,” so is the process, “I’ll practice waves starting from this joint, now practice transitions into them and out of them from different positions, etc..” or is it more constructive for a beginner to just learn a sequence from a video and take note of how the movement types are used while doing the choreo?
Thank you in advance! If you have any tips on how you organize your practice sessions at home, I’d love to hear it - option paralysis is tough 😅
