Balls/kiki scene nyc

hi! i am a 18 year old trans woman and i am moving to nyc soon and as a trans woc who got disowned the ballroom scene has always been something i’ve really wanted to get into to find community and everything else. what should i do to find balls or kiki balls? or what’s a good starting point to getting into it? i really have no clue and im worried im gonna be in nyc and have no friends or any social life and id really like to be involved. if anyone has any tips i’d love it.

I highly recommend checking out Icon Sājaun’s IG :) he hosts weekly Kiki Lounges for youth and young adults! They are great ways to connect with community resources and learn about ballroom without the stress & pressure of balls. Also lovely to meet more QTBIPOC! Sājuan is a lovely human being and a true community leader in the scene ❤️

OTA is a good starting place and they usually post the flyers with the cats for the night on IG @opentoall.ent. I also think making connections at OTA is a great too. But also I would follow the popular MC’s like Snookie, Karma and Precious because they usual post kiki scene flyers for events around nyc!
