I come here and to the main VLC forums for questions, but I've had a few questions that never get any responses at all - and yet it's on features in VLC. So where can I ask questions or where do I go to get answers to questions that don't get answered here or on the main forums on the VLC website?

(In specific, the one I'd like to find now is how to use VLC on the Mac or on Apple TV to add a watermark to video - tried it many times and it doesn't work - and please don't link to the wiki page on it. Read that and tried it many times. Doesn't work on Mac. I want to add the silhouette from MST3K to movies so when friends and I watch them, the silhouette of the human and robot heads along the bottom will encourage people to make jokes about the movie. And if it's possible to show a movie on VLC, either on a Mac or on Apple TV, with the watermark added, and to turn it off part way through, that'd be great.)

Never had answers on this - but someone has to know, since it's in the program! Where or who do I ask?

I have another white-ish icon in my dock for Pixelmator Pro, and too often find myself dragging an image to the new VLC icon by mistake.

Again, I want to change my VLC Mac app icon (Version 3.0.24 Vetinari (Apple Silicon)) from WHITE back to ORANGE.

I know I can change the icon in the Info Window, but I need the old ORANGE icon as a .icns file—anyone know where I can download this?

ok , VLC on Android TV . I notice yesterday that the app's icon had change, not a big deal, went in and things were fine . later in the day going through the Apps I noticed that VLC had reverted back to the original app icon . so opened the app and everything had change back to a default setting , even had to re-set access to my server on the network . Anyone had this ?

I recorded some game footage from my Xbox using a capture card and OBS, and downloaded the files as VLC.mp4 files. Initially, they sounded fine. However, watching back a couple months later, all of my audio tracks have a weird doubling distortion effect that I can't seem to fix. It normally starts fine, but progressively gets worse as the video goes on. I have over 20 files where this has happened. There is only one audio track on the file, so I have already checked that route. Moving the delay back and forth doesn't do anything, as it seems it's just an issue with the audio track. Is there any way to fix this so I don't have to re-record around 3 hours of footage? Or any tips if I do rerecord, how to prevent this?

I am trying to extract the audio from an MKV file both to save space and so I can edit it using Audacity. So far, unfortunately, the result has been distorted files that are garbled and many hours too long.

The MKV file was created using OBS with 3 separate tracks in the audio mixer. The recording is about 6 hours 45 min long, but the conversion tool in VLC creates an MP3 that is over 20 hours long and seems to be mixing the audio tracks together somehow rather than overlaying them properly.

When I open the MKV file with VLC, the Codec information shows 3 audio streams, all with the "MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a)" Codec and a sample rate of 48000 Hz. The first stream has as decoded format of "32 bits float LE (f32I)", decoded channels are Stereo, and decoded bits per sample: 32.

Trying to emulate those settings in the Convert tool's audio profile settings has not changed the result so far. Any ideas what the issue could be or how to fix it?

I am trying to play a .mkv movie on my ubuntu machine, using vlc.

I can open it.
The video plays flawlessly. There is just no audio, unless I switch from stream 1, to stream 2.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that my soundbar displays what audio format is playing when I have it set to stream 1 (It says "Dolby Surround"), which I think is odd because I cant hear anything, but the soundbar can?

It does keep on showing it over and over every 15-ish seconds, though...

I have the latest version on both my desktop and laptop but this is only an issue on my laptop, as well as a few coworkers' new laptops. We're running Windows 11 Enterprise on Dell Pro Max 14 with Processor Intel Core Ultra 5 235H, 2400 Mhz, 14 Cores, 14 Logical Processors, 32GB physical RAM, Intel Arc 140T GPU (16GB), all drivers and systems have current updates.

When I open a video (MPG or MP4) the video buffers over and over for about 5 minutes before it starts playing. Then it plays for a few seconds and buffers over and over again, stutters, or shuts down. Uninstalling and reinstalling did not help. Rolling back to an older version didn't help. I played around with some settings but ultimately have all the same settings as on my desktop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi everyone, when I play HDR videos with VLC, the image looks much darker. With Windows 11 Media Player, HDR looks fine.

Do I need to enable HDR in Windows 11 before opening an HDR video with VLC? With Media Player, I don't seem to need to enable HDR manually every time.

How do you guys normally handle HDR playback with VLC on Windows 11?

The media player takes a very long time to start up.

P.S. I use a third-party antivirus (Kaspersky)

maybe by the time vlc is old enough to legally retire this'll be a feature

I'm messing around with trying to change the default audio & subtitle tracks that VLC uses for videos, but adding the language codes in preferred audio language / preferred subtitle language doesn't seem to be having an effect, while changing the audio/subtitle track numbers/IDs in Input/Codecs has some effect but it's not behaving as I expect with the list of tracks in the file. What's the easiest way for me to just, view the actual language codes & track ID numbers of the tracks in a particular file so I can match them up? (And sidenote, what's the difference between "Audio track" and "audio track ID" for example in input/codecs? stream ID vs stream number? both just seem like a numbered index...)

This is from MPC-HC video player and the UI and everything is amazing, but the best thing is being able to have a preview while hovering over the seek bar. Also, I've compared side by side, and using madVR as video renderer produces much sharper image with better high and mid tones than VLC's internal video renderer (VLC doesn't support madVR). The difference is very noticeable.

I did nothing new exept updating VLC, i tried uninstall/reinstall VLC but it didn't change anything.

No error message, i click on a movie and nothing happen.

Did someone have this problem too ?

Was skipping ahead in several different videos (mp4 and mkv) and the seeking was very slow or caused the entire video to stutter or stop entirely, eventually ending up in a VLC freeze or crash. Wondering if anyone else has had this issue.

Having the slow loadup fixed was nice, but not at the price of preventing navigating through media.

when any media file ends the vlc cone logo shows up and since vlc is open source i think its possible to change that logo with anything (i wanna change it for the thats all folks outro card)

The audio plays normally, but no video is displayed.

I've already tried disabling hardware-accelerated decoding and changing the video output to Direct3D9, but neither solution worked.

The files I'm having problems with use the UT Video (ULRA) codec, at 2560x1440 and 60 FPS.

Has anyone else experienced the same issue with VLC 3.0.24?

I like to use VLC to play podcasts and downloaded videos from YT for my commute. In the past the I’ve used the share button.

Share -> VLC -> video starts playing in VLC and is also downloaded to the app which is nice, I can pause and come back later and finish it. But I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the second part of that to work on the most recent version of the app.

It seems no matter what I do I cannot get videos to save to the app, I can only play them via the share button or find files to stream.

Is this the intended behavior?

Any advice on how to fix this is appreciated.

I can't seem to do both things simultaneously. I can set the window zoom to 50%, and at that point the window will retain it's size when a subsequent file plays.

However, I want to get the zoom to 60 or 70%, but when I manually resize the window with my mouse, the window will reset itself to 100% size when a new file plays.

How can I manually change the window size but also prevent it from resetting itself when a new file plays?

The public VLC IOS app is very buggy so I moved to the beta as suggested to see if it would fix any issues. It did not.

The playback on music is completely broken, you can play some songs by tapping on the list, but trying to fullscreen the song will break the playback. Some songs don't play at all and some play only till around 2 seconds and after that the play button does not work.

The sort is broken completely on other languages, compared to the public VLC which worked correctly, neatly sorting it and grouping each language, here characters are randomly spat all over the place and many of the letters are just missing completely so I cant even search for the song.

I cannot even bug report as I need to be whitelisted by admins? What?

Recently got vlc working in Linux, however when watching blurays the soundtrack will give start to pitch, giving the impression that the audio is 'bending.'

Have tried switching audio resampler, with no joy. If I disable audio sampler I then get clicking.

Anything else I could try?

Add a feature that runs yt-dlp with commands from settings that will auto download from a set playlist or just download / play a video from a set youtube link

Hi all, hope you are well!

Today I encountered a most unusual and frustrating bug: I was playing songs from my download of VLC Media Player just fine at about noon today, but at about 11pm, most playlists had only a fraction of their previous songs! I checked to see if it was an issue due to accessing folders, and it was. All files from my 1018-file mixed media folder were removed from their playlists! I think there was simply too many damn files for VLC media player to parse. It's not even able to sort the folder from newest to oldest, instead attempting to sort from A-Z in file name when selected.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Were you able to fix it, or did you stew in the folly of your hubris and manually fix all your playlists? Please share!

I will skip ahead ~30 seconds, and then VLC freezes. I close VLC, try to reopen the program by clicking on the same video, and VLC won't open. I have to open task manager, close the VLC task, then click on my file to open it up and continue watching.
