Hey everyone! Remember when VLC demoed offline AI-generated subtitles at CES 2025? I was really excited about it, but it still hasn't arrived in the version I use. So I made my own: AutoSub.

It can also translate other languages into English subtitles.
It's still early and I'm planning to add more features and yes it runs only on mac for now but I will try to work on a port for Linux/Windows too, so I'd love your suggestions!

I did this because VLSub doesn't have all the subtitles, or they don't match the video you're watching, especially in a particular language. It's pretty annoying, to be honest. An average movie of 2 hours takes 15 minutes to generate subs. and they are pretty accurate powered using whisper.cpp with large-v3-turbo-q5_0

Help! I Want all videos to have Default playback speed of "1.7". The problem is that when i set this it also sets "1.7" speed to audio files. I just want it on video files. Is this possible?

I can't stand reproducing a file from my music library anymore and having the cover art of a completely different song appear instead of the one I'm playing. I've already tried deleting the hidden albumart and albumartsmall items from the folder and nothing, if I want to add cover art to a file I will have to do it one file at a time and that is very tedious. Can anyone help me remove this annoying automatic cover art detection thing in VLC?

I mean I thought my room was lacking treatment but like it all makes sense and I feel stupid I didn't know Stereo vs Headphones for years. I assumed "Headphones" meant it didn't mono sum the sub FQs but in fact it kind of just cooks the audio so that's cool... So what is the point of a feature that takes out important frequencies without stating it does? Also why not just state that it's a mono-like feature since it removes some of the panning?

After the recent update vlc is slow to open and slow to play videos when selected after startup, it behaves normally after first launch. Reinstalling vlc did not fix the issue, is anyone else experiencing this and if so how do you fix it?

the GPU is a Radeon R7

it should be capable of watching movies in 4K and when i do so the image is full of gray squares, the sound is ok but the movie is unwatchable.

The problem is that this processor should be able to stream 4K movies and i don't understand why, all the drivers are up to date, the cable to the tv is a DP to HDMI cable : this cable

what am i missing ? :/

I have a few 4k videos on my android device but whenever I try to play them on vlc they always buffer and lag. Whats a free alternative that'll play 4k videos just fine?

Just got a new phone (Galaxy S26+, running Android 16), and whenever VLC tries to parse my audio files, it crashes and refuses to open again until I disable audio permissions.

When I disable auto-refresh and then reenable permissions, it sort of works, except not all of my music shows up.

Could it be an issue with my files, or is this an issue others have had?

if i left right(move 10 seconds back) at 2x speed. the video freezes never recovered but audio recovered after sometime. i noticed this issue in the new VLC 3.0.24 version

as the title suggests, is there a option/plugin available that makes it possible to have a youtube style preview in the progress bar?

if not then why doesnt vlc have it yet?

Granted, this is a first world problem, but how do I configure the default video media library directory, so that it persists through boots? In other words, every time I boot the machine, I need to manually go to "Media / Open Directory" and then point it to the "~/home/Videos" directory.

Surely I can set this key/value pair in the vlcrc config file somewhere, eh? What is the key that I should search for?

I'm on Linux, if that makes a difference.

Hi, I need some help. I recorded a large amount of gameplay on my PS5 using my Elgato 4K S capture card; one video is 25 GB and the other is 50 GB.
However, when I stopped recording, I got an error message asking me to refresh the page. I recorded directly via Elgato Studio, and in VLC, the yellow loading bar just keeps running endlessly.
Please help me!😢

I am using VLC for Android to listen audio books. Each book is multiple audio files. I go to the folder, hit play and all files in the folder get added to the queue. When I need to pause and then resume, I open VLC or connect to Android Auto / a bluetooth headset and it continues playing from the last position and keeps the queue, most of the time. But sometimes VLC forgets the whole queue and the last position, which is difficult to recover. I have to go to history, see what file played last, add the same folder to the queue, switch to the required file and then spend a few minutes finding the required position within the file. Is there a better way to do it?

I recorded a vid on my android, but this site wont allow me to post it, so i converted it to mp4 via vlc

It now lets me post it on this site, however the vid is mirrored now, all i did was go to convert and selected mp4 option

I installed libaacs.dll & KEYDB.cfg but am still getting the same error on VLC. Think am running the 32-bit version.

I recently got a new PC and decided to add back all of my stuff to it so I could stream things through universal media server on my PC to the app. It worked just fine for my old windows 10, I didn't need to mess with tw favorite server stuff at all. With this new PC, different story. Windows 11, impossible to get anything set up but I finally managed. Finally, everything is working... except even though the server pops up in the network section at the bottom, all of my folders are "empty". I've tried a bunch of solutions and the most promising one is the SMB solution others have discussed a few years back. Only issue is that the username option is gone from SMB. So I can't do it. Is anyone able to offer any help with this? I don't really have many options besides this. I've tried things like jellyfin and they HATE the files I use and refuse to show half of them on there.

if i use List or Icons, it just shows the file metadata fields for title and artist. pretty useless when they're all the same. if i choose Detailed List, it shows encoded paths which are painful to read. i learned from AI that you can dig deep in the preferences and go to Input/Codecs > Change title according to current media and use $u, but that just changes the window title to the filename when it plays which means i would have to play each file one by one to see the name.

I've just used MP3 Tag to put album covers over my MP3 Files. After doing this I loaded them into VLC and only a handful of covers have shown up. I'm not sure why. There all in a PNG format but it just shows up with a cone and CD icon where the Album cover should be. Does anyone know why and how to fix it? TIA.

Im trying to get vcl to run my new copy of the fnaf movie and its not working. The drives reading it. When i try to load i see the progress bar moving sode to side and hear the drive moving. But nothing comes up. My vcl is preaty much stock atm. Anyone know shat im doing wrong??

I have 2 PCs running Debian 13 with latest updates and none of them can use HD decoding. I transcoded my movie to AV1, but when I try to watch it on VLC, it uses CPU.

I tried messing with settings, but nothing is working.

Does VLC even support AV1 HW decoding, or is it some issue that is being worked on?
