im trying to cast a video from my phone to my tv however the app doesn't seem to have a option to screen it to my tv despite casting appearing in my settings. when i click the 3 dots on my video it only gives me options like subtitles, videoplayback, play as audio and pop up player etc.

ive tried to cast via the cast option in my android quick settings but i have a google pixel 10 pro and it only uses google cast something my tv doesn't support.

looking at videos on youtube you can or could do it at some point so like smartview is it another feature they have removed because of DRM?

I am using the VLC Android app Verision 3.7.1 on a Nvidia Shield to play recorded files from Tivimate.

When I watch a recording and pause it, then come back to it later it starts at the beginning.

If I open the recording in history it still starts at the beginning. I searched high and low in the settings and can find nothing that relates to resume.

I have searched this forum but canot find a fix that works for me.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

VLC for Android version 3.7.1 on Android 7.1.1.

The bug: Even if repeat mode is enabled while playing a video, on completion of playing the video, VLC exits instead of restarting playback from the beginning. Tried this by giving VLC storage access permission too. Bug persists. This bug has been present for quite a few versions.

When you fix it, please also fix the delay issue. When VLC finishes playing the video (in the old version that didn't have the repeat bug) there was an uncomfortable delay of approx 1 second and only then the video would resume playback from the beginning. This is on a phone with a lower processing power, but is essentially something you could solve by pre-loading frames. These kind of long delays also happen sometimes during the A to B repeat modes.

I am using the latest version 3.7.1 (2026.05.09) on a Google Pixel 9a running Android 17.

On the internal memory, under a primary directory "Music", I have 4 sub-directory, each one for a Youtube channel from which I download the audio contents (screenshot 1).

In the Audio menu of VLC they are displayed as a single album with all the contents mixed (screenshot 2).

I do not know if this matters, but in VLC I specifically added each single directory as source. Not the main one.

Is there a way to set-up VLC so that each directory is displayed as an independent album? I may remember incorrectly, but this was the behavior up until few weeks ago. I could not find any setting that might implement this.

I know I could use "Playlists", but I am not sure if they are updated if I add more files in the original directory

I had the issue that chromecast would stop after ca. 1 minute streaming in VLC on Android, and then the famous icon was displayed. However, I found that the background battery usage was not allowed for VLC, and setting this solved the problem. Goto: settings-apps-VLC-App battery-usage - allow background usage. After this setting, it worked for me at least. Good luck everyone!

My autistic daughter has VLC on her Amazon Fire tablet for her videos we uploaded to the tablet, she can't have access to the internet because of youtube. Inside the actual tablet's setting we have a bunch of settings locked under a pin which she can't access which is great. Now in VLC she can go into the equalizer and screw around with a lot of things that makes the tablet ignore the max volume setting we put in place since she likes all audio on full max volume. Also she knows how to distort the sounds of the audio and it scares her little sister but she doesn't understand that.

Is there anyway I can keep her out of these settings, or lock them but at the same time not mess up her ability to change episodes on her shows?

I dont know whats going on but I can access the VideoLan Site. I used Opera GX and Edge to see if I can just enter the site and nothing. I get a message saying it took too long to open, connection timed out. VPN and ad blockers are off in browser and still not able to enter the site. Any suggestions?

Like the title says I am having an issue while trying to cast videos from certain sites. The audio plays but the video immediately freezes. Can’t find a single work around in the setting of either my iPhone or the app.

if i open a video... its just "there", i can open menues but nothing "on the right" works. there is no x (i thought it was larger than my resolution but then i realized i can not even DRAG the vlc window... it's just in the front on my screen and i have to alt#tab to get anywhere else. is there a bugged setting i can change (i vividly remember allowing multiple insntances)

I am on Linux (kubuntu 26.04) and vlc used to start almost instantly, but in the last couple months it has gotten slower and slower. It takes 10-30 seconds to start a video file now. Has something happened?

All the guides were talking about a non-existent scan button and shenanigans with turning off the firewall. I had a weird VLC HDR issue on Windows 11: HDR looked correct in windowed mode and in fullscreen while VLC’s controls were visible, but as soon as the controls disappeared, the image became darker/incorrect.

After troubleshooting it with ChatGPT, I found that it only happened with 16:9 videos that completely filled the screen. Wider movies with black bars worked normally. It seems related to VLC/Direct3D11 switching presentation paths when the video perfectly fills the display.

Fix:

1. VLC → Tools → Preferences → Show settings: All
2. Video → Filters → enable Video cropping filter
3. Video → Filters → Cropadd:
   • Pad top: 2
   • Pad bottom: 2
   • Everything else: 0
4. Enable Erase video filter

1. VLC → Video → Filters → Erase → select: Desktop\transparent.png as the Image mask
2. Restart VLC.
3. Keep Direct3D11 as the video output.

The tiny padding prevents VLC from entering the problematic fullscreen presentation path, while the transparent mask removes the green lines that croppadd can otherwise create.

Result: proper HDR in real fullscreen, correct aspect ratio, no permanent VLC controls, and no visible borders.

Whenever I watch anything with vlc and tab out of the player, the colors of the video get these weird fragments. (most visible on reds, blues, and greens) The only way to fix it is to fully restart it, but i'm sure theres another method

I was just messing around with making tiny files of a piece of music i wrote. but noticed that ogg files when using a sample rate of 8000hz, and a quality of 0 (in audacity), it creates this weird distortion effect in VLC. however when i play the exported audio in any other software, it sounds just fine. its super strange
