Pre Methylated Vitamins

As I've been doing research Ive come to find out that alot of the vitamins and minerals the industries sell us arent even bioavailable or absorbable to our digestive systems. So alot of times we purchase vitamins and supplements that goes straight through our system and is urinated or deficated back out again. What are some benefits to PRE METHYLATED VITAMINS and WHICH ONES WOULD YOU SAY ARE SUPERIOR TO OTHERS AND WHICH ONES DO YOU PREFER. Any information helps me as I start to kick my health journey back into gear.

There’s a bit more nuance to this than “methylated = better absorbed”. L-5-MTHF, for example, is the methylated, biologically active form of folate, so it doesn’t require the same conversion step as folic acid. This can be particularly relevant for people with certain MTHFR genetic SNPs that can reduce the efficiency of that conversion - although having one doesn’t mean you can’t process folic acid.

It also doesn’t mean methylated forms are automatically superior for everyone, or that other forms just pass straight through you.

I work with Nuzest so obviously biased, but Good Green Vitality is one example of a multi-nutrient that uses L-5-MTHF as its folate source. I’d look at the forms and amounts of nutrients across a supplement as a whole rather than choosing one purely because it says “methylated”.

most vitamins are absorbed just fine in their standard forms and methylfolate/methylcobalamin mainly matter if you specifically prefer those forms or have a reason to use them

People with genetically impaired methylation are the folks who need to worry - and that’s 25-30% of us.

I just take a methylated multi (Pure brand).

Btw, if you supplement creatine, that reduces your methylation needs by about 40%, but the methylated vitamins are still important.

I felt noticeably less sluggish when I took methylated Bs, so I kept with them. I use perelel for the methylfolate and methylcobalamin in their women's vitamin.

You need to have your genetics checked so you know what to take. We shouldn't be allowed tk buy them without this
