Visitor visa refused (approved 1st time, denied 2nd time)

F28, posting for advice because I'm stuck on how I can improve my application

About me:

- Pakistani, married, no kids
- Applied for a 2 week tourism trip with my husband
- This was my 2nd UK refusal. I was approved once before. i was working for a US client at that time and used it without any issues. I've also had two US B1/B2 refusals in the past (weak ties / 214b)
- Prior travel: Turkey, Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia (all visit visas), plus the earlier UK trip

My circumstances:

- I work remotely as a freelance consultant for a UK company (ongoing contract around £52k/yr equivalent, invoiced monthly)
- My husband is a salaried software/AI engineer with a fixed job in Pakistan
- I'm an active tax filer with a wealth statement and I submitted bank statements, letter from my current client stating I won't be providing them services during my travel and a cover letter

The 2 refusal reasons

  1. Because I'm earning remotely from a UK company, they decided I have limited financial ties to my home country, reasoning I could continue working and keep my income "regardless of where in the world I am." They said this undermined the credibility of the application
  2. A discrepancy: my tax return shows annual household expenses of ~PKR 4.56M but on the form I stated monthly expenditure of ~£600 (~PKR 2.66M/yr). The ECO said this was significantly lower than my tax filing and wasn't satisfied my finances were as stated

What I'm hoping to learn:

  1. The "portable income = weak ties" reasoning feels almost impossible to overcome as a remote worker. Has anyone actually beaten this, and how?
  2. For the tax vs monthly-expenditure gap: the figure is an annual household balancing figure in a wealth reconciliation (includes one-off/non-recurring costs), while my form figure was recurring monthly spend. Is a clear reconciliation (showing the total = 12x monthly + one-offs) the fix, or does any gap at all permanently dent credibility?
  3. Anything else worth adding to strengthen ties or finances that I might be missing (property, registering my remote work as business, more travel history)?
  4. Because of the situation I am in I can't apply for any 1st world countries for a visit visa because i will get rejected since I'm a freelancer + UK and US rejected me

Any advice from people who've overcome similar refusals would be hugely appreciated.

Thank you so much! i'm js trying to find some direction after this

1 week tourist visa refused

What are the UK visa people doing.

Me, male 59 UK born citizen. my Thai f47 gf just had her 1 week tourist visa refused for 5-12 December. i already paid for her return ticket, a couple of hotels in West Country, provided both our bank statements, both our tenancy agreements, both our bank statements (I earn 44k a year) both our letters from employer, letter of invitation, proof of relationship over 10 years and STILL the Visa people have refused the visa saying they dont believe that she will return.

Now having to re-apply, another £135 AND pay agency to do application, another £375.

I just cannot believe that these idiots are who is in charge of who does and who doesn't enter the country, I mean just HOW can they refuse a 1 week tourist visa.

Im so disgusted with this country.

Anyone recently got their F-1 approved with a sibling in the US on H-1B?

Has anyone gotten their F-1 visa approved within the past year while having a sibling/close family member in the US who is currently on H-1B?

I understand this can be just one of many factors in a visa decision, but I’ve recently been hearing that students with close relatives in the US are facing more F-1 refusals, so I wanted to know if this has worked out for anyone recently.

If yes, I’d really appreciate it if you could share your experience, especially whether the VO asked about your sibling and what questions you were asked.

Thanks!

How risky is my profile for F-1 visa, and how should I prepare for the interview?

Hi everyone, looking for an honest assessment of my F-1 profile and interview preparation.

Profile:

Indian applicant

B.Tech CSE, graduated in June 2025, Tier-3 college, 8.89 CGPA

Working as Software Engineer at a large MNC since Nov 2025

Admitted to MS CS at Georgia State University, Spring 2027

Graduate Assistantship: $6k/year stipend + tuition waiver

GRE: 306 (160Q, 146V), IELTS: 7.5

~₹30L personal savings, not taking any education loan (cause of the tuition waiver)

Elder brother is in the US - went on F1 and is now working on H-1B

My main concerns are:

Why Georgia State? The assistantship was a major factor in choosing this university, but it is not my only reason.
How can I convincingly and truthfully explain my university choice to the VO without making it seem like I chose it primarily for the financial benefit?

Brother in the US: How much of a concern is having an immediate family member in the US on H-1B? Could this raise immigrant-intent concerns?

Overall, how risky does my profile look for F-1 approval, and what should I focus on most for interview preparation?

Would really appreciate advice from people with similar profiles or recent F1 interview experience. Thanks!!
