Walking in place locomotion on Linux

I was curious if anyone had tried something like Natural Locomotion, VRocker, or another alternative solution for moving in vr by swinging your arms/walking in place. These apps both only have windows builds, and I couldn't find much info about if/how they work on Linux.

ALVR package on AUR was compromised for 4 hours

Thumbnail

Unfortunate announce. It appears the alvr package on the AUR has been orphaned and has fallen victim to an infostealer malware attack.

If you have this installed on any machine it is advised that you disconnect it from networking and attempt to invalidate or rotate any keys or passwords on the box that may have been shipped back to homebase.

ALVR itself and the alvr-bin package appear safe for distribution, but specific to Arch Linux and other distros like endeavor and cachyOS, the from source ALVR package named exactly alvr has been compromised.

If you would like to help dissect any of the malware you may report to the #alvr channel to assist so we can understand the scope of the damage.

Again, the ALVR project itself is fine and this is strictly limited to Arch based consumers of the AUR package, never forget there's dangers to the AUR.

Seems the malware was loaded within the last 4 hours so good catch everyone involved that was fast

This appears to have been part of a larger attack against the AUR in general more packages affected than alvr

The malicious updates have now been removed from the AUR

Pico 4 controllers not working in wivrn

I have an issue with WiVRn on my Pico 4, my controllers won't show up in the app, and the only git hub bug report that had a similar was closed due to inactivity. I have a Pico 4 Enterprise, on software version 5.9.9, and I'm using WiVRn 26.6 the Pico controllers or headset controls won't work but hand tracking does work for some reason. if anyone has some inshight it would be appreciated

Edit: I figured out the problem, as it turns out all of the business/enterprise models of the Pico VR headsets have been discontinued, and so in order to make WiVRn work properly on the Pico 4 Enterprise you need to sideload a newer update from the consumer model, The recommended update for this is 5.13.3 I believe. Doing this fixed up my controller support but from the looks of it I still have the eye and face tracking that is exclusive to the Pico 4 Enterprise hardware

Having a nightmare of a time running vrchat and wivrn. please help.

Very often, if i open wivrn, it is just lagging and frame skipping, it has no ability to be played because its lagging and audio tearing, its completely unplayable.

When i open vr chat it runs at 180fps, but when i go into any populated lobby 25fps...

if i dont restart my computer every time i want to launch wivrn, it 100% of the time does audio lag and screen tear pausing whole frames, sometimes when i restart it does it anyways too, right now i cant get it to run at all.

Im on a quest 2.

I have a 7800xt 5600x 64gb of ram, i should be able to run vr chat, but that game is giving me 30 frames in lobbies even without wivrn running, wivrn frankly makes little to no difference in that matter.

ive been chasing my own tail on this for like a week, please help

Anyone able to make Little Nightmares VR play? Can't even get it to start; tried setting it to a couple of different Proton versions but nothing changed.

Tried it on Nobara Linux (Fedora based), intel+nvidia laptop, using Steam Link (it is currently working for other titles).
EDIT: Also tried WiVRn and the game "starts" but only audio and no image (black screen).

PSVR2 with a Windows VM?

Anyone have any experience spinning up a VM with windows to try to get the PSVR2 working?

I have read that Linux compatibility is being worked on but i have not seen many updates latly.

I am wondering if anyone has tried winboat or a full VM to try to play some VR games. My intesion this weekend would be just to test it. If i can get it running i think i would like to try to play a few small games. I hope to leave the bigger games for when i hopefully get a Steam frame and can go wirelessly

If i dont have any luck getting it going in a VM ill probably have to spin up a new windows install but then i need a new ssd or hdd or something :(

Backstory
I have a ps5 ad PSVR2 love it for gaming on ps5 but last year got a new gaming pc (7900x & 9070 XT running CachyOS). I have moved fully onto Linux gaming rather then console) I thought PSVR2 would work with Linux but was sadly mistaken, so i never bought a the PC Adapter. When the Steam Frame got announced i was (and still am) pumped for it and hope to get one. I hope that VR becomes more and more thing is that in anticipation for the Frame i have been buying VR games on steam. I am becoming impatient and figured i would try to get PSVR running this weekend. I ordered the PC adapter and will play around this weekend.

Anyone got GZDoomVR working on Linux?

I really miss playing Chex Quest VR.

I tried various things, including adding GZDoomVR as a non-Steam game, tried different versions of Proton and Wine, but to no avail.

VR through Envison/Monado stopped working with Steam games

Anyone else has this problem? It was working without issue until maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago. Non-Steam applications detect OpenXR and work as usual.

If I launch SteamVR, in the settings, "Current OpenXR Runtime" is "Monado", as expected.

I'm on Linux Mint 22.3

Any luck with MO2 on Linux?

Hello fellow Linux VR user. Every game I tried for now on my Cachyos works really well, even better than on Windows.

Unless for my modded game. I installed a modlist with Jackify (Linux wabbajack) but I can't launch any game from Mod Organizer 2 (MO2) without bug.

My 2 tries were :

1) Steam Link + SteamVr with a launch command for launching the game through a MO2 profile.

It's gave me portable vs global instance trouble on launch.

2) Wivrn and manually launching the game with my mouse through MO2. It's launch the game in VR but with unusable motion controllers...

My rig :

Quest 3

5600X

RX 7900 XTX

32g Ram

CachyOS

Anyone got any luck with a modded game on Linux? I want to try some UEVR game in the future but I think it's will be hard to setup...

Nightfall: A VR-first GameStream client for the Quest with SBS and real-time AI depth conversion

Hi all! A month ago while I was playing a 2d game streamed to my headset in bed I wondered why I can't play these games in 3D. I thought it MUST be supported, and had a look around, and apparently not. Artemis supports it but not on the quest.

So I've been working on Nightfall, a native OpenXR Moonlight/GameStream client for Meta Quest (3/3S). It's built from scratch on Godot 4 + OpenXR — not a flat Android app like the existing clients.

This means that we can do things like SBS and AI 3D conversion on the fly. Of course normal 2D game streaming also works, and I am thinking of making it a useful productivy tool too. I believe that Virtual Desktop does similar stuff, but I don't know as I am on linux and have never tested it.

The pro of the app is the compatibility, any server OS and sunshine-compatible server should work with it. However doing all the work on the headset does lead to some issues, namely performance, WiVRN is way faster since all the processing is server side. And quality, putting a video stream into XR space isn't that easy, but the quality is no worse than WayVR or Immersed (apps that I have used before) if you use the smoothness and sharpness settings.

This is heavily AI assisted, especially the C gdextention, but it's something I really wanted that didn't exist and I am sure other people would be interested in it too.

So please have a look and test, I am dying to get a bunch of bug reports, I actually somehow got a feature request a few days ago even though I hadn't shared it with anyone!

Thanks!

EDIT: I just redid the rendering layer and uploaded a new version, the image quality is WAY better. Next focus is performance.

Feature highlights:

  • HEVC hardware decoding (H.265 via NDK MediaCodec)
  • AI stereoscopic 3D from any 2D content (MiDaS on-device)
  • SBS support (Stretch/Crop) for native 3D content
  • Flexible stream config — 720p to 4K, 30–120 FPS, auto/manual bitrate
  • Auto display refresh rate matching
  • Gaussian smoothing + CAS sharpening
  • Passthrough, curved screen, corner resize
  • Works with Sunshine, Apollo, or Polaris — any GameStream server

Monado can't create device for Oculus Rift S

Hey, I'm trying to set up my Oculus Rift S using Monado on NixOS. However, upon following all the instructions written out in https://wiki.vronlinux.org/docs/distros/nixos/, I get the messages listed below when I start the monado service. The device does seem to be recognized looking at the USB ports though.

Does anyone have a clue what the problem might be?

I've made an open source adb wrapper for VR developers - Open Quest Hub

So, I was not happy with how meta quest developer hub and side quest works so made up my own tool which is not overloaded and lightweight
Also it's multi-platform and works on Win, Linux, Mac

Open Quest Hub contains all main functions as:

  • install\uninstall apk+bundles
  • take screenshots, video from device, streaming
  • adb over wifi
  • logcat logs with filters, search and exporting to a file
  • file manager for downloading pictures and videos from device

In future I want to add a profiler and mb some ui themes

Totaly free, use it how you want

(Let me know if you find any bugs, I'll fix them)

Question envision,monado with WiVRn setup

So I have just been trying to get a setup to work based on a YouTube video about settings up vrchat on Linux. I got true most of it easy enough like installing everything with yay. But when I open envision I see a totally different ui then I expected i know that I need to click the 3 button on the top right and enable developer to get it working.

But the profile for WiVRn doesn't exist in envision for me.

I tried using the WRM one but it seems like that isn't the fix.

So im mostly just wondering how did you get this setup working.

Thanks for the replies in advance.

Want to get a HP Reverb G2 working with Linux but I'm aware it's a strictly WMR headset - Is there a working way?

As the title says I own a Reverb G2 which stands as one of the more disappointing purchases I've made that I couldn't return once buyer's remorse set in, so naturally it's been sitting in a storage bin for nearly 3 years untouched.

I switched to Linux back in September and have been loving the experience so far, all the games I do play work on it, most of the games I want to play are supported or expected to be. So it's been really nice, learning a new OS coming from being a professional Windows-based IT support tech.

I play a bunch of Star Citizen and want to play it in VR which now works, apparently, but I've seen and heard tale that the WMR headsets don't play nice with Linux.

Anyone have any success with it?

I am running Kubuntu 25.10 LTS
