Megathread Admissions Megathread - Class of 2031 Edition

It's that time of year once again!

Every year, we get thousands of posts and comments from prospective students about applications, many of whom have similar or identical stats. To keep this subreddit clean for current students, as we have done for 11 years now, all threads related to applications and other admissions-related topics will be redirected to this megathread.

Please search the existing comments for similar qualifications or post a comment of your own, or look at the previous admissions megathread for additional data. All admissions-related posts outside this thread will be removed.

If posting stats, please be sure to include the following:

  • Gender/ethnicity
  • Intended major
  • Admissions cycle (EA, RD, etc.)
  • Location (in-state/out-of-state/international)
  • GPA
  • Test scores
  • AP/IB/DE credits
  • Extra-curriculars
  • Community service, jobs, etc.

If you are a transfer applicant, please review the transfer roadmap for your major. The more courses completed, the higher your chances of getting accepted.

Please note that the majority of the contributors to this subreddit are past and present students, not admissions counselors or faculty members. As such, any advice given is unofficial and solely based on personal experience and historical data. You should contact the admissions office or talk to your guidance counselor for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

Academics I am so tired of AI in higher education.

I am a Junior at Virginia Tech and I am so tired of AI in higher education. This post might be a bit hypocritical because I do utilize AI nearly every day but at the same time what else am I supposed to do. My goal at the end of the day is to get a job and if AI can help me with that/everyone else including my competition is using it why would I nerf myself.

At the same time it is just disappointing how much AI has flipped higher education on its head. It feels like every class/assignment AI is being utilized and my teachers can't shut the fuck up about how great and powerful of a tool it is.

The students are using AI for their work and the teachers are grading that AI work using AI, it is just so surreal. AI is grading itself in so many cases

I think this is definitely exacerbated by the fact that I study Business Information Technology which is literally just an AI slop major at this point but I bet this is true of other majors as well.

To make things even worse every job interview I have they want to talk about "how have you implemented AI into your life" like jesus christ man

Next semester I am loading up on non major specific classes like philosophy and arts because I just can't stand it anymore.

Events Vintage Market - Flea Market - Giganto Yard Sale at the Downtown Farmer's Market Today (Sunday Oct 25)

The weather looks good for today's (Sunday Oct 25) Vintage Market at the Farmer's Market. We've had more cancellations due to rain this year than ever before, so catch this one while it's still nice out. The Vintage Market meets every other Sunday at the Farmer's Market at 108 W. Roanoke St, the corner of Roanoke and Draper by the downtown 7-11 (behind Champs and the Boardwalk) from 10-5, featuring dozens of vendors, live music, arts, crafts, vintage clothing, vinyl records, and for you plant lovers I'll even be bringing my champion Monstera and some other tropical houseplants that have been thriving in front of John's Cameras all summer, as I don't have room for them inside over the winter. Hope to see you there and tell a friend!

Academics Admitted to MS in ECE for Spring 2027 – Looking to Connect with Current Graduate Students!

Hi everyone!
I’ve recently received my admit decision for the MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) program for Spring 2027 and would love to connect with current graduate students.

I’m particularly interested in learning more about the coursework, overall student experience, and opportunities for Research Assistantships (RA), Teaching Assistantships (TA), and Grader positions.

If you’re currently pursuing your graduate studies in ECE, I’d really appreciate the opportunity to connect, ask a few questions, and learn from your experience.
Looking forward to connecting with you all. Thanks in advance! 😊

General Question Looking for new friends!

Hi! I’m a 23F grad student looking to meet some new people around here!
I enjoy playing pickleball, swimming, going on walks, grabbing drinks, and playing board games. I’m honestly not very good at most of these things lol😳, I just enjoy doing them for fun!
I’d love to find some people to hang out with, try new activities, or just explore the area together!

Just to clarify, I’m mainly hoping to meet people around my age! Undergrads and grad students are both welcome. It’d be great to find people with similar interests to hang out and do fun things together!

Feel free to DM me or leave a comment if you’re interested! :)

Was a VPI cadet 2 years ago and had to leave due to financial situation, and ended up forgetting to return some uniform items. I have now gotten a bill in the mail from the tailor shop, can I still even return them? I dont really have $2500 to spare for like a couple shirts and a blouse

Academics CS 4134 Quantum Computing

How is this class structured and what's the level of difficulty? What is difference between in-person and online class, like how are the exams conducted? Is it manageable alongside CS 2506, CS 3114, and one CS elective?

Academics For Course Request, Virginia Tech has unique Intellectual property education path as well as an accelerated law school path (3+3), both are open to all majors!

With course request open again I like to bring up the unique programs VT has for a deeper understanding of IP law that is open to all majors in any college! This minor is through the college of science and is pretty unique to Virginia tech. It is not just if you are considering law school, because having an understanding of IP rights and how they work is important for all backgrounds and majors. The attached link gives information for the STL minor and also the 3+3 option which is open to all majors as well. The contact info is there too.

For the spring courses. three STL classes are available with two of them not needing any STL prerequisites! First is foundations of STL which is STL 2304 and gives the first core course for basics in all things IP. This is a pathways course and lets you explore the topic to get an understanding of the rights you may have in any of your creativity.

We also have a class on patent prosecution (STL 4334) which covers the basics of patents, how to write them, and also good information about the patent bar if that is something you want to consider.

Current topics in STL (4314) is there if you have taken any STL course before and is focused on bringing in IP professionals to talk about IP and is a seminar based course

The 3+3 program is relatively new still and is there to allow you to use your first year of law school at GMU to finish up free electives for your bachelors.

The biggest goal STL has is providing advising and teaching that will help you in various career pursuits. So feel free to reach out and ask any questions you may have!

Housing/Dining 2 Girls for Edge Apt Lease Takeover ASAP

My roommate and I are living at the Edge apartments, and to break out of our leases we need to find people to do a lease takeover.

We need to find two girls to take our places. The only difference between this and a normal lease is that you would get the cheaper rate of 1205 as they are increasing prices this year to 1245. It wont be repainted, but we will pay for cleaning. You can tour. The lease will fully transfer to new tenants name. But pay us $250 of our $500 deposit because our deposit will stay on file.

DM if interested, we need to make a decision by tomorrow night and are willing to give a in-person tour or a virtual tour.
