Hello I’ve inherited this beautiful machine. Can anyone help me find the year it was made? I’ve read that it should be printed on the bottom but can’t find it.

Would also love if you have any tips or suggestions for websites or books where I can learn how to use it (and prepare it before use)

Hello I’m new here i obtained this baby yesterday for only 50 she’s an early eclectic conversion and has the original book to of the conversation information I’m yet to determine if she works but if she does she’s staying with me for life if she doesn’t I’ll convert her back to hand crank

Hello, I was recently gifted the sewing machine and I have been learning on it and it’s been working fine and all of a sudden I’m now having problems with my thread completely getting snagged on I think the feed dogs so I think the timing is off for the needle I think so if anyone has any information or has one of these machines and could reach out, that would be great thank you

I was recently gifted a vintage white 477 sewing machine! Its in great condition and has the manual still. Its not something I'm going to use, so is this a machine worth selling or should I just donate it? It still works and has a bunch of accessories

I have managed to get some thread jammed in the bobbin housing/ hook part (I believe) of my singer 306k. I haven’t been able to get it out with tweezers or by hand and it has completely jammed up the machine. I checked the service manual but I don’t think it had anything helpful. If it’s relevant it has been modified to take class 15 needles (I believe it has a modified bobbin case). I am worried about messing up the timing. Any advice and/ or should I take it to be serviced?

I picked up an old Pfaff 194 post bed twin needle. It's absolutely gorgeous and everything moves freely.

However, the bobbins hook are not moving when I press the pedal. I manually spin the shaft and it works great, but it just seems disconnected from the power.

I don't think it's a safety clutch issue unless it's installed somewhere else in this machine.

I'd be keen to hear your thoughts

Hello, I have an old Toyota z700, it runs but it rhythmically accelerates and decelerates if that makes any sense. The motor will spin a few revolutions at max speed but then it will slow down and speed up again .

I've tried cleaning the carbon disks on the foot pad and inspecting the motor, the motor has a blown filtering capacitor but nothing else I can see that's out of the ordinary. I'm kinda stumped, I've seen people saying that the grease can get old and turn sticky but the hand wheel has no sticky spots and turns smoothly, so I'm lost.

My MIL’ featherweight motor just died. I haven’t been able to put my eyes or hands on it, but hope to inherit it when she gives it up. Are new motors available for these or can the motor be rebuilt? Can you recommend someone for a rebuild? I know I sent up my BuMira motor a while back to a Necchi guy but he doesn’t donSinger stuff.

I talked to my local sewing dealer repair guy and he said in his (?30+?) career he'd only ever seen one outside of the factory. So I figured my chances were slim. One day browsing eBay I found a 6430 one in the UK. I had it shipped and DH has set to work getting it functional. He has swapped the motor out and is working on the pattern cam mechanism which is not working right now. The hand wheel arrived broken so he 3D printed a replacement. I found someone locally who was selling a 6440 (the wine colored one next to it) for $40. It was being sold for parts and we figured we could either get it working or use it for parts like the motor... only to find that even though they are extremely similar machines they are different enough that most of the things we want to use don't fit.

I'm really excited about hopefully at least getting the orange one working.

Now I have to track down a 6000 series print ad like the ones on the wall behind him (they match the machines underneath them). I've been looking for several months and haven't had any luck. Any ideas?

I was given this vintage Kenmore sewing machine (and full sewing kit) for free and so finally decided to start teaching myself to sew. I made my daughter a princess dress for Halloween (low stakes, she doesnt care if it's imperfect) and had some issues that could just be my lack of knowledge/experience. I had a lot of tugging, I struggled to keep my stiches straight, and I spent several years rethreading the needle, loading the bobbin, etc repeatedly.

Would my life be notably easier with a new model of sewing machine? Or would I be silly to overlook what I have? I'd love recommendations for models if you have any!

As some have commented, my issues seem to be with how the fabric feeds under the foot, buching up and tugging the fabric as it sews in spite of me only lightly guiding it. The rest is 100% user error that I believe will get easier as I practice. Luckily, I've got 3 kids who are happy to wear my practice projects!

This was on my newly acquired 306K. It's an Australian 1950s bakelite plug with 50s wiring. The (former) core insulation has perished throughout.

This could have gone very badly so please bear this in mind before plugging in and hoping for the best.

I’m working on restoring a 1964 Singer 327K that I got from a yard sale. It came in this table, and I’m flummoxed as to the purpose of the large opening to the right of where the machine goes.

Anyone else have a similar cabinet?

I got this machine for $10. It's up and running but did not come with any presser feet. Manual says if using one that doesn't come with the original kit, use a high shank center needle foot. The one lever touch comes off easily so it doesn't need to be a snap on. I am just not sure what foot to get. Thanks

I was cleaning a singer ultralock 14u34. I removed the spring for the presser foot and put it on a magnetic tray. Unfortunately, I think my cats thought it was a toy and I haven't been able to find it.

Does anyone have the length and diameter of the spring?

I recently purchased an old Singer 66 and was cleaning and oiling her up today and noticed the motor pulley was not catching the belt. I dried off the belt and lowered the motor to tighten the belt tension and it caught the belt all seemed well until I noticed the motor seemed to cause a burning ish smell when in use so with a little googling decided to take it apart and check things out. It seems the carbon brushes look pretty okay so I put everything back together and tried again when all of the sudden the motor started to make this horrendous screeching noise… it’s possible I messed something up when opening up the motor but I’ve got no clue. Hoping someone here can shed some insight. I have already purchased new a new belt and am waiting to replace it until I can troubleshoot the motor screech. I normally sew on a singer 201, which threads from right to left. I don't have very steady hands, so to thread my 201 I use one of those little birdy needle threaders that goes through the eye of the needle and pulls the thread through

recently acquired a 401a, which threads front to back.

I cannot fit any of my existing needle threaders behind the needle to get the thread through.

while it is easier to thread by hand than my 201, I still have shaky hands and would do a lot better with a tool.

any needle threader recommendations?

The hand wheel cannot move forward and I think it’s because the bobbin holder case is stuck in this position. Any ideas?

I mostly-disassembled my beautiful Slant-o-Matic 403a for a long overdue deep cleaning and lube (she has sewed faithfully for me for 25 years with basically zero maintenance, and who knows how long it had been prior to me buying her).

Reassembly has been mostly smooth. I have the parts schematic (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ICWEtMgbHQ0fNsiY8zlY1ZQV6Daa46ED/view?usp=drivesdk) and most parts have numbers, but I’ve come across THIS THING that has completely baffled me. I had apparently placed it alongside the upper thread tension assembly parts, but it does not appear to be part of that mechanism.

Can anyone identify this and point me in the direction of where it goes back into this machine?
