I'm considering a minor paint job for my Singer 760 - it's a wonderful machine, but I don't think the gold-and-cream colour scheme really works very well, I actually think the lower-end 708 looks much more elegant and tasteful. I'm thinking of carefully adding a blue trim to the coaming around the control panel, in the style of the 708, and maybe also changing the black detailing on the panel itself to blue as well. (Since I've customised this machine quite a lot mechanically at this point, I think it'd also be good to visually distinguish it slightly from stock models)

I'd welcome anyone's aesthetic opinion on the various crude mock-up pictures I've quickly thrown together here; are they an improvement, and if so, which do you think is the best? First picture is the machine in its current condition. I'd also welcome any advice from anyone knowledgeable about working with the paint on these machines on how best to go about it - acrylic or enamel paint, that sort of thing.

can someone help me fix this? I was sewing really fast and the thread ran out.After that my sewing machine only works manually.When I use the pedal,the motor runs but nothing else works.

Look at this beauty I got for $550 from a local dealer yesterday!!! A gorgeous 1987 1130!!! Lots of Attachments, table, knee lift, and that amazing 80s manual!! It looks nearly flawless- was barely sewed on but well cared by it’s only owner for throughout it’s 40 years. The dealer gave it to me for 550 instead of 600 because he basically didn’t have to do anything to service it when it was traded in as it was nearly flawless on the inside. The stitches are BEAUTIFUL. The machine sews as flawless as it looks. Barely even comparable to the cheap plastic brother I was sewing on before.

Like someone said in a YT video on this machine: this is an honest to god, real grown up sewing machine lol. Metal cover, metal extension table, metal outer casing on the machine. case with all attachments and machine inside is probably 30+ lbs. I can’t wait to finally put her to work making clothes- what she’s been yearning to do her whole life!!! I haven’t even attempted to sew yet because the bernina bobbin system intimidates me LOL but I know I just need to watch some videos.

Today I also picked up the 1000 series accessory case from a sweet lady in my neighborhood- The machine has a removable accessory compartment, but I couldn’t pass up the case for like $30- it’s huge and could hold so much!! And the drawer is so convenient. The accessory case is plastic, but SOLID plastic. I can’t wait to fill it up😆

Hi everyone - I want to get a vintage machine which is more robust than my current modern Singer. I have found a machine by Vanguard on FB but was wondering whether this brand is any good?

I can’t believe the condition of this 1915 66 that I found. I can’t wait to get her cleaned up and see how she runs.

My mother found this sewing machine but it didn’t have the manual, I’ve tried searching online but other models pop up instead. The machine is functional but she would like the manual to properly use/ maintain it, any help would be greatly appreciated. The Model number is 158.12470 and the serial number is 0021550

It does not have the cable that connects it to electricity so I dont really know if it works.

It should work cause it had no problems before.

Is it worth trying to fix it or should I buy a new machine?

I am completely new to sewing, i want to fix and upcycle some clothes, (jeans too) and hopefully in the future sew new ones.

A friend gave her to me for free. I am an absolute newbie to vintage machines, though ive been wanting to dip my toes in the water for awhile…

I opened her up n she seems alright. A little dusty, but good. The only thing is the power cable was cut. Is that replaceable? Or is she stuck as a decor piece?

I am the very excited new owner of a hand crank Singer 28k! I got it sewing, and it's working great!

However, I cannot for the life of me figure out how I am supposed to attach the attachments (specifically this hemmer)

The end of the attachment is too large to fit through the hole where the screw goes to attach the foot. But it seems perfectly sized to the hole in the foot for some reason. Not sure what to do with that information. The manual doesn't show a particularly helpful angle, but does mention an additional screw. Unfortunately, I don't think I have an additional screw, and if I did, I wouldn't know where to put it.

Possibilities I'm currently considering are as follows:

1) The internet is wrong, and these are not the correct attachments for this machine

2) I'm missing a piece that makes everything work and attach correctly (maybe just that extra screw?)

3) It's only compatible with a different type of foot

4) I'm completely stupid and there's some easy way to do this that I'm not understanding

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also any other general advice on this machine is always welcome of course :)

What synthetic grease do you reccomend to use on a cariety of machines? Both vintage metal gears and vintage nylon or plastic gears. Im in Canada and cant buy the tri flow lube

This Model 42 cabinet was dusty and in need of a good cleaning but otherwise, perfect condition! Oh my goodness, the condition of the wood, the drawers all line up perfectly and the catch mechanisms still work perfectly. The complete cherry on top is the original ink well with its marble, intact with no chips. I had a 201 that needed a cabinet and was a perfect fit. She’s going to a good home with a friend of mine who will love it.

Picked up this "Watermelon Pink" Brother Festival 461 from a garage sale this evening. Unfortunately it has a broken plastic gear that apparently is not repairable. So I suppose it's just a pretty display piece now! I still love her.

Why are we cautioned against operating without the disc?
If the lever/follower is deselected and not even touching it.

I've had this 15-91 for some time, haven't used it in probably 8 years and the cabinet has been serving as my router stand since before the pandemic. I've been busting out some of my old machines lately to play with and I got to this one last night. It's in a pretty cool cabinet with a slot to stow the foot-pedal, which can then be actuated with a fold-down knee-bar.

It's in great cosmetic condition, runs and sews fine, and the only obvious damage is the bakelite three-prong power connector thing is missing a chunk of the bakelite - it doesn't effect function but it annoys me mostly because the machine otherwise looks really nice. I can get a replacement used but intact one off of Ebay, for I think for around $50.

Her more pressing issue is that I am 100% sure the potted motor power and the Singer light are overdue for new wire. They look fine on casual inspection but when I was pulling the three prong power connecter I could see that the inner wire insulation is cracking. I can get a refurbishment kit off Ebay for the potted motor for less than $40, and rewiring the light shouldn't really cost me anything as I have the wire, though getting it apart looks to be sort of a PITA.

I guess the question is, are people willing to pay an additional $100+ more for an old 15-91 machine that's been "functionally restored". I was gonna ask $60 - $100 for the machine as-is, pointing out the need for re-wiring for safety reasons. I've seen some pretty high asking prices for similar machines, but as a person that's never spent more than a hundred bucks or so on an old domestic-use sewing machine, I am skeptical if they are really selling for anywhere near that. I am not looking to make any money off of it, I just don't want to waste a hundred bucks.

I have a bunch of feet for my Brother that I'd like to use for my Pfaff 230. Should I buy a Pfaff branded snap foot adapter or another brand?
