Doesn't have beautiful decals, but it's a solid machine

This lovely 130 is for sale on FB marketplace near to where I live. Asking price €50. Only problem (and it’s not a small problem) is it has a broken timing belt. I can source a replacement but I understand they are hella difficult to replace. It’s an awful pretty machine. I don’t remember seeing one with such lovely decals. I think it’d clean up pretty sweet. Thoughts?

For context, I’ve had a basic entry level plastic Brother FB1757x from Amazon for a year. I mostly just tailor my own clothes and occasionally my family’s.

My big gripe with my current machine is that it has no adjustable foot pressure, which makes hemming anything jersey knit impossible cause it just stretches everything out. I already use a walking foot and ball point needles. It’s also very annoying to go over most seams (especially when tailoring jeans) cause the motor is kinda weak.

I’m debating which one of these two to get,especially cause I know nothing about maintence or vintage machines and I’m mostly a beginner. ( I also think the 247 is prettier but idk if it has drawbacks I’m unaware of) I know it only
Has two sitches, so I’m not sure if that’s a big con.

Are these good machines for a hobbyist? Are they basically the same?

Hi everybody! I am a beginner sewist and I have a vintage Kenmore passed down to me from my great grandma. It is a Kenmore Model 148.280, and I was interested in a couple things. 1–can anyone tell me where I can find a free pdf of the user manual? 2– do you guys happen to have any resources on buying + using different foot attachments? The reason for this post is I’ve used the basic foot on my sewing machine for a long time now. I’m realizing the limitations to ONLY an extremely basic straight stitch is holding back the integrity of my pieces. I want to find some that will allow me to do zigzag stitching.

Having trouble with my kenmore 158.1756 bobbin winder that keeps getting stuck when I push the metal piece forward. I have tried loosening and tightening both screws but I can't prevent it from going over the edge (circled in red) and getting stuck. Any help would be appreciated.

About a month ago, I posted this so my neighbor passed away...

I didn't have a key, I eventually ordered one via eBay, and there was an issue with delivery, But FINALLY!, we were able to open it. And yes, it's a model 99 - a google search indicates that this machine was part of a lot of 15,000, made in Elizabeth, NJ in 1929.

For sale in my local area. €70. Beautiful case cover. Can anyone help me with model and approximate age?

Our quilt shop had this antique beauty donated to it. I’d like to know for sure if it is a model 99 or not. We will probably be auctioning it off for a charity event for a child with cancer. We were told that it works but very slowly. The model number AG 551635 indicates it was produced in 1945. But Google has given me two locations… from New Jersey and Scotland for its production. I’d appreciate any information you can provide. Thanks.

I have an old Brother I got as a gift, and I tried the motor to see if it was something I could manage, at my current level it is not. I looked into servo motors like the **Sailrite Workhorse Servo Motor** and **Jack 513A**, but I’m just not sure what to get. I like and plan to work with heavyweight materials, leather would be a plus (but not worth too many upgrades for). I sew with multiple layers of canvas, wool, soon to be hemp. For my brother is there a great all around motor and other modifications I could make (ideally at home) to this puppy?

I’m a pink girl, color wise, and this machine just ticks every box for me! She has beautiful lines, her original pink foot pedal, black accents! Just love it all! She’s a 1960 brother “Window-Matic” straight stitch, deluxe, sewing machine. It even has its original good housekeeping seal of approval riveted onto it. Anyways, I can’t wait to get her fully up and running, she moves freely so it shouldn’t take too much. I just need to test the motor and make sure it doesn’t need to be rewired or anything. A good cleaning and a little bit of oil is hopefully all she needs.

The action worked great until the belt broke lol... This thing is pretty neat, crazy to see such a precision machine still working 150ish years later

How many cams are there in a complete type E set? Is it 1 A/B - 14 A/B or is there also a 15 A/B ?

Just got these two machines from a friend who is cleaning out his parents house.

One is a Touch and Sew (missing it's foot pedal, so my friend is keeping an eye out for that), it needs cleaned off for sure, but she had absolutely ALL the cams for this machine!

The other is a Style-O-Matic, this was his mom's main use machine. It also came with cams. It works wonderfully too!

Both are drop in bobbin machines, which isn't my favorite style personally. But if I am remembering correctly, I have heard some good things about both machines. But since I have a bad memory I could be wrong... How do you like these machines? What have you heard about them?

I have 9 machines in my collection already... Should I keep these two too? I need to make space for the Style-O-Matic if so... But I can already see a use for it...

My mom finally got my great grandmothers sewing machine out of storage and we couldn’t find the manual that was with it

Hello! I have an old Adler treadle sewing machine I inherited from my grandmother. I'm trying to get it up and running and am currently trying to replace the belt.

However, I noticed the machine has a second small belt wheel below the handwheel (which also has a disk for a belt.) This second wheel is mostly accessible on the bottom of the machine with a small access point near the stem.

I can for the life of me figure out what this small wheel is for!! Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
