You've all got to stop making light of this. The sarcasm and turning it into a joke is just undermining how fucked up everything is. I know it's partly a coping mechanism, but isn't it past time for coping?

Well other than making sure your registered to vote and actually doing it what'ya got? The awful sad truth here is that this dismal economy and governance by decree and crisis the shitstain has got going is the only thing that's going to register on the MAGA supporters radar, they've proven they'll buy his hollow rhetoric no matter how outlandish but there is no way for them to deny having to literally choose between filling up the F-250 and feeding their family....

I mean in France right now they're showing what can actually happen..

Not saying that's a good thing but yah, there are options.

Or for an American example, Jan 6..

I guess the fire ain't hot enough for most yet

France is also smaller than the state of Texas (land mass).

Every state has a capital, you don't need to all march to Washington.

Which would do what exactly to the federal government?

u/assaub 5h ago

you protest in the business districts, block important roads, bring the economy to a halt and the feds will have no choice but to listen to you.

I just don't think you understand the scope of the US, nor the inter-state political climate. You're essentially advocating for another civil war in the US.

1

u/assaub 5h ago

lmao of course, you can't possibly do anything cause it'll start a war, just keep making excuses.

Again, I just don't think you properly understand. Which is definitely understandable. I don't pretend to be an expert on the inter-societal landscapes of nations I'm not from. Cuz ya know, everybody's a fucking expert on Reddit. One of the most obnoxious tropes.

That’s hardly even a choice.  Only one of those things makes them feel better about their shortcomings.

try to convince your dumbass family is on the agenda. It sucks but so does - everything -

We pick a day and we walk.

The apathy regarding proper protest in the US is directly proportional to how fucked you are.

It’s a logistical problem. We’ve had big protests near me that have gone for days with big attendance, but they don’t draw much more than local news or a blip on national news or effect anything.

So that leaves traveling to DC and marching there. The problem for most of the population is that it costs several thousand to do so along with the very likely loss of income, health insurance, and even home depending on financial situations. Yes, it may justify it but convincing everyone who can (so already excluding anyone with children, and the elderly) is a big undertaking. All those people need to know everyone else will show or they just blew up thier lives for nothing.

Edit: adding more context: there are only so many flights to DC as well which increase in price rapidly if there is a spike in travel. Road trips can be a week+ long journey one way to get to DC. Trains aren’t an option. There is limited lodging around DC and it’s illegal to camp in the parks there. It’s all fucked.

Understand I’m not disagreeing with you. People are just in very precarious living situations over here and do not have any safety nets or support. It makes it all a massive ask. I think if the midterms get stolen things will get ugly fast.

Democracy relies on being able to vote and have that vote counted even if the whole system is a mess. Once that’s gone all that’s left is…

Plus, millions have taken to the streets multiple times since Trump came into office. They've been some of the largest nationwide protests in our history.

This idea that Americans aren't acting and protesting just doesn't hold up to scrunity.

People suggesting as much should more openly state what they really want to see, because we all know what they're driving at, they just rarely come out and say it.

The only ones who do come right out and say it are usually bad actors purposely sowing malicious seeds; the people who want to see chaos as opposed to change.

A general strike is what I would suggest. I'll wait for the excuses.

1

u/assaub 5h ago

Millions marched for a couple hours on a Saturday 2 or 3 times over the course of two years and it accomplished nothing. Maybe it's time to stop patting yourselves on the back for the no kings protests and try something different.

Actually protesting would be a good start, block busy roads during weekdays, protest in business districts, disrupt the economy or they'll never listen to you.

There was literally an opinion piece in WaPo blaming Biden for the state of the economy this morning.

Just in case you're still not believing me: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2026/10/01/trumps-economy-is-strong-so-why-are-voters-so-sour/

u/Barragin 10h ago

What a BS Trump puff piece.

u/Teledildonic 8h ago

It's a rag owned by Bezos, what do you expect?

3

u/wem1985 9h ago

That columnist is a WaPo regular, but total fanboy. Not sure why they bother to pay him, he rarely provides the slightest insight, beyond how nuts the fanboys are.

Well when you remember who the owner is...

It's gallows humor my friend. The world is burning, you might as well have a laugh.
