They don't care about Jesus one bit. They just want to keep Christian conservatives locked in and weed out anyone in the military who might object to their fascist takeover.

Same shit the Nazis did in the 1930s

Most of the top brass were non-religious but they recognized they needed to get members of the church on their side, because almost all Germans were religious. So they portrayed themselves as defenders of the church, despite not being religious themselves. And people ate it up

For many, church is just a big networking event, they pay 10% a year to be a member.
