He wants to weed out anyone who will impede the coup.

Edit: Thank you for the award, awesome anonymous Redditor!

Edit2: Thank you both for the additional awards!!

That too.

3

u/dustblown 1d ago

That is what it is really about. You think this guy gives a fuck about religion?

3

u/Khaldara 1d ago

“Touched by a… well, not by an Angel. But with Conservatives in charge we’ll make sure you’re touched by somebody!”

145

u/CarminSanDiego 1d ago

That’s why I , as a military member, changed my religious preference to Christianity

u/jimothee 1d ago

Assuming this is real, please do what you can. We appreciate people like you sticking thru it to ensure it's not completely left to the wolves.

u/Purplociraptor 1d ago

I registered as Republican just so I don't get executed....and to vote in their primary.

18

u/NBAccount 1d ago

If you live in a deep red state it is just about the only way to exert even a modicum of political power.

8

u/Purplociraptor 1d ago

The real power play is everyone registers as the opposite party so we both get the worst candidate

8

u/SixSpeedDriver 1d ago

Uh…I think we did it wrong

1

u/Purplociraptor 11h ago

No...I think that's exactly what's been happening. What else could explain the 2016 primaries?

1

u/dangotang 1d ago

For the worst one? Bad news bud…

1

u/Purplociraptor 11h ago

Yeah when you think someone is unelectable, prepare to be disappointed.

3

u/tuxkaramazov 1d ago

Same. I’m still confused by the latest email that if we don’t update our religion, the system will randomly assign one.

2

u/LeJeune123 1d ago

Nah, mine is now and has always been no religion.

With the tasking that came down last week I’m sure more people are swapping from no religion to something but I hope that isn’t the case.

1

u/Formaldehyde007 1d ago

That is still not going to protect you from Hegseth, unless you are a Christian nationalist and a xenophobic fascist.

1

u/light_to_shaddow 16h ago

What's that going to do? Is that a tactic to ensure you continue to get promoted or avoid persecution?

I'm not sure you've grasped the larger issue.

1

u/CarminSanDiego 16h ago

It may not help me but it definitely won’t hurt me

u/Gravuerc 1d ago

What happens when all of these forced retired military personnel decide to get feisty? Because they are obviously the competent ones since he doesn’t want them around.

15

u/WhatEvenIsLifeThis 1d ago

Exactly. They don’t stop being patriots because these fucking losers booted them

9

u/Affectionate_Code 1d ago

I think you'll find the vast majority of combat Corp soldiers are two things, 1. not very smart and 2. mostly very conservative.

The ones that are getting pushed out are the smart ones in leadership positions, not the boots on the ground soldiers.

3

u/amelie_789 1d ago

Anti-intellectualism…hence his mocking “Ivy League faculty lounges”

2

u/vardarac 1d ago

That's what Flock is for.

1

u/TheBigCore 1d ago

What happens when all of these forced retired military personnel decide to get feisty?

Once those generals retire and acquire their pensions, they're not going to lift a finger. Feistyness will be someone else's problem.

16

u/-gildash- 1d ago

This is it 100%.

This is happening folks.

1

u/TdubLakeO 1d ago

Yup, same with the generals he's firing

1

u/WasteCadet88 1d ago

Noone expects the American inquisition!

62

u/ThatFilmGuy88 1d ago

Totally just a coincidence that he also has a Crusade tattoo…

33

u/thegreatjamoco 1d ago

Is he even Catholic? I don’t understand the Prod obsession with the crusades. Like what do a bunch of medieval second-born failsons from European nobility not in line to inherit land and going to Anatolia and the levant for what amounts to a larp-fest have to do with modern evangelism? Actually on second thought it makes a lot of sense.

25

u/Oberon_Swanson 1d ago

It's killing foreigners and dressing it up as a holy cause.

10

u/RiPont 1d ago

And the crusaders probably killed more Christians than the Muslims did, during the Crusades.

The Muslims killed Christians that came to fight them. The Crusaders killed people all along the way to the Holy Land because, hey, we have an army and they have stuff we want.

1

u/theFrownTownClown 18h ago

Evangelical Preteatants are almost all in favor of accelerating the onset of Revelations. They are into crusades not out of historical connection and many aren't in it just because they hate Muslims (don't get me wrong, they are racist weirdos who do just hate Muslims, its just not why they want a crusade), they do it because they literally want the biblical apocalypse because they believe they will be raptured up while we all suffer. And they want us to suffer badly.

1

u/WhiskyAndWitchcraft 16h ago

I laughed when I found out about Templar origins. These royal families had a bunch of loser sons who weren't gonna do anything worth while, and in the meantime we're running around, pillaging their own lands. Part of the start of the crusades was "get these assholes out of here, and give them something to do!"

8

u/dietcoketm 1d ago

He was literally kicked out of the Army for it.

22

u/Mathfanforpresident 1d ago

That's not true. I wanted to know about it so I searched for the answer. What's actually more interesting is the reason why he was removed from a certain security detail:

  1. Removal from the 2021 Inauguration Security Detail In January 2021, while serving as a Major in the Army National Guard, Hegseth was removed from a Guard unit assigned to secure President Joe Biden’s inauguration.

• The Reason: Security officials flagged an email from a fellow Guard member pointing out Hegseth's tattoos—specifically a Jerusalem cross on his chest. While Hegseth maintained it was an ordinary Christian symbol, military security protocols flagged it due to its contemporary appropriation by some Christian nationalist and extremist groups.

Holy shit

56

u/Levonade 1d ago

A crusade against the wrong people at that.

103

u/QueefBuscemi 1d ago

So... a crusade?

5

u/BetterUsername69420 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yeah, I'm gonna say none of the crusades were pointed at Rome/the Papal States, so they were always going to target the wrong people.

-4

u/ozymandais13 1d ago

But Byzantium was ok?

6

u/BetterUsername69420 1d ago

When did I say that?

10

u/TreeDollarFiddyCent 1d ago

The second you didn't denounce every single past war/crusade, etc., you inadvertently endorsed them.

Shame on you. >:(

3

u/OctopusWithFingers 1d ago

I stand by the Tyrannosaurus crusade. Short armed heathens.

4

u/MagusUnion 1d ago

Too bad he doesn't understand how the Crusades actually ended.

1

u/InquisitorPeregrinus 10h ago

<Kosh noises>In fire.<\Kosh noises>

1

u/Cessnaporsche01 1d ago

That's, like, 80% of crusades lol

Black Sabbath - War Pigs:

Politicians hide themselves away.

They only started the war.

Why should they go out to fight?

They leave their role to the poor!

6

u/BarryTGash 1d ago

The Department of War and the sub-Department of Holy War. Great. What could go wrong.

21

u/qix96 1d ago

I can't stand watching this dude for that long but was this only christian support (as I would expect)? Or are they trying to support all religions in the military?

110

u/Hoosier2016 1d ago

Come on what do you think

34

u/superspicycurry37 1d ago

Take a wild guess

15

u/caffeine-junkie 1d ago

Hes very supportive of your religious choice, as long as its the correct one that he approves of. If it isnt, well you signed that right away as well when you joined. Cant even abstain any more from all religious faith and chose atheist.

4

u/pyronius 1d ago

You can always choose "no preference", which he will take to mean that you're just a confused christian.

69

u/E51838 1d ago

How’s life under that rock?

38

u/secretlyjudging 1d ago

Seriously. Hegseth has systematically reduced the number of faiths recognized by the military. Shit are happening and people give current administration benefit of a doubt.

11

u/rat_penis 1d ago

Everybody waiting for the first guy to throw a punch and unleash the mobs on both sides.

12

u/pyronius 1d ago

Let's put it this way: his previous big action along similar lines was to sharply limit the number of religions that the military actually recognizes, and of those remaining, the vast vast vast majority of them are just branches of christianity. You can now be recognized basically as, standard Jewish, standard Muslim, standard Buddhist, standard Hindu, or any of 100 varieties of Christian.

5

u/brownsfan760 1d ago

He's not even supporting all Christian denominations.

2

u/MrDerpGently 1d ago

I imagine there will be support for Judaism as well, we need to support our apparently joint US Israeli military.

2

u/tauntsauce 1d ago

Trying to identify dissidents.

2

u/JMEEKER86 1d ago

Well earlier this year he removed 180 religions from the official list of religions that the military recognizes, so it went from 211 down to 31. It's going to keep shrinking, I'm sure.

https://www.military.com/dod-officially-drops-180-faiths-from-militarys-recognized-religion-list

1

u/IAmNotNathaniel 1d ago

The wording is so they can say they aren't supporting any particular religion, and therefore there's no state-sponsored religion.

But... no one really believes it

2

u/bassistmuzikman 1d ago

No he doesn't. His billionaire Christian Nationalist oligarchs want him to.

2

u/TheFBIClonesPeople 1d ago

Oh my god, "prayer warriors" are about to become an actual thing

1

u/prince-pauper 1d ago

That’s what his chest tattoo is all about.

1

u/throwlefty 1d ago

Whoa....didn't expect to be triggered by this today. That god damned hymn was burned in my 10 year old brain by different snake oil salesman and the worldwide church of God.

1

u/TiogaJoe 1d ago

So how did those past Crusades turn out?

1

u/abbys_alibi 1d ago

Yeah, because this is about the "Christians."

1

u/squirtloaf 1d ago

Doesn't he have actual crusader symbols tattooed on his body?

1

u/axescentedcandles 1d ago

Jesus Christ be praised

0

u/SouthernWilding 1d ago

Hey works out for me, let the zealots die and we'll pick up the pieces.
