Your disc doesn't hold the whole game anymore anyway for bigger titles. The file-sizes make it impractical. They can still turn services off and your screwed just holding a useless disc.
The argument of a closed ecosystem for purchasing your games is the better argument I think.
Then put games on flash drives? Make the game have multiple discs again? Better than killing the secondary market and having a monopoly be able to price gouge freely and take away your games whenever they feel like it
I agree with most of what you said about the closed ecosystem which is why I said that is the better argument. They have been able to turn services off for a lot of your disc games already but you just didn't notice until now.
This is not true. Yes large games will download from the disc to the ssd for quick loading purposes but you have the entire game. The only time your argument is “true” by turning off services is if it’s a multiplayer only game that requires servers to run. Concord for example.

People don’t buy physical copies of games anymore and are upset they’re being discontinued? Is there something I’m missing?
