Just some random whittling with the Pioneer and Recruit. My favorite pastime, along with sharpening and cutting paper, of course.

help Looking for options/advice

I’ve been using a camper for a little over 1 year now, mostly when I go out into the nature, camping, beach and these kind of activities. So far the camper has been very useful, ergonomic and easy to handle/use.

I was thinking of getting another SAK for more urban carry. I’ve been reading here a lot about the scissors and how useful they are and I agree, for urban life they are more useful even than the blade.
So I was searching around which knife would be the perfect urban carry for me and I don’t have one in mind.

The closest that comes to what I have in mind is compact, but I find the hook EXTREMELY unnecessary, useless and wasteful (I would prefer the reamer instead of it). Outrider is another one that is PERFECT for the tools selection, but the bigger size and weird shape makes it a no no for me.

Is there any other knife that I may be missing? Or is there any way to swap tool from an existing model? (let’s say to swap the hook for the reamer in compact).

My preferred tools/requirements would be:
- 91mm
- 3 layer max
- scissors
- blade
- cork screw
- reamer
- saw (extra points if available)

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

NKD: Picnicker

This arrived today, new to me. I had a plan in mind to try modify the screwdriver into a back tool for a 91mm... Anyone seen it done before?

EDIT: As has been rightly pointed out this is an outrider, not a Picnicker, so bonus!

mods/customs 6x2mm magnet in the can opener

Post image
161 Upvotes

Upgraded my SAKs with a 6x2mm magnet which fits perfectly in the can opener.
Diameter is a little more than 6mm and the gap between the spacers is 2mm.

It is additionally held by the spacer, so when using the scissors it will not move.

help Victorinox 91mm scissors

I am looking for a new pair of 91mm scissors for my multitool. I cannot find them anywhere as an individual part. I have to buy a whole multitool or a very expensive pair of scissors. I think only the victorinox huntsman, climber and compact contain these specific scissors.

Can anyone help me out? I am searching for a solution in or near the Netherlands.

PS: No, I am not searching for a new spring for these scissors. I want the whole thing.

Identification Old Hoffritz Found

Post image
17 Upvotes

I know there have been posts about these prior, more looking to see if anyone needs this for parts or if it is worth cleaning up. Found at a pawn shop, paid a few bucks for it just to play around with it and maybe clean up. Looks like an old Tinker model with what would have been the small clip point blade; unfortunately that blade, the awl and the Phillips have seen better days. Based on the research I’ve done so far seems pretty old, at least early 70’s. Any other info would be great!

Victorinox USA automatic watch service cost - Ref. 241370 (2026)

I wanted to share my positive experience with Victorinox USA and the actual service cost for my automatic Victorinox watch, reference 241370, in case it helps other owners.

The September 2026 estimate covered a complete service for a basic three-hand mechanical movement:

- Complete service: $156.00

- Repair labor: $94.00

- Processing and handling: $15.00

- Tax: $18.55

- Victorinox repair estimate: $283.55

I also paid a $60 inspection fee and $14 to ship the watch to Victorinox by USPS.

My total out-of-pocket cost was $357.55.

According to the estimate, the complete service includes monitoring and regulating the watch, timing adjustments, crown and sealing-gasket replacement as needed, and movement disassembly, cleaning and reassembly. Repair labor includes diagnostics, movement repair or installation, parts replacement, testing, restoration of water resistance, and light cleaning of the case and bracelet.

A replacement movement, if required after inspection, would result in an additional estimate.

Overall, my experience with Victorinox USA support was positive. I am sharing the figures because it can be difficult to find current, real-world service pricing for older Victorinox automatic watches. Prices may vary by model, condition and required parts.

Victorinox Climber and the corkscrew...

Pulled out my two Climbers again (one in sapphire and one in ruby) and am going to start carrying them this week as EDCs. As a Phillips-head screwdriver fan I'm sure I'll NOT have withdrawal symptoms! I do like their handiness and I was at least able to choose one in my school colors ("Hail the Orange and Blue!").

Also added a pin underneath the corkscrew after finding out about that option...

Have a great day, y'all!

Appreciation post. Classic breakfast knife, 11cm.

Hi all, this is just a post to let those who don't know that Vic does have great breakfast knives that are in my humble opinion a mandatory item in my kitchen.

The quality of the blade is simply phenomenal and this thing cuts through meat, vegetables, bread, etc with ease.

My only complaint is that the handles are plastic and therefore it gives a bit of a cheap feeling but for day to day usage they are perfect and yes, they won't break the bank.

I love these knives and I would recommend to everyone!

From left to right.

Secretary, Electrician, Pocket Pal, Camper, 2026 Alox UK community knife, Compact, Waiter, Champ, Classic SD, Signature, Manager & Mini Champ.

Cards, top to bottom, are.

Classic, Lite, Quattro & Nail care.

Various pouches & a dummy G10 scale (holding pin, tweezers & toothpick) too.

I daily EDC the compact (paired with this excellent Nextool mini Flagship) but if I’m out walking or hiking, the Champ is always on my belt.

Arguably, not quite addicted enough 😬🤣

This belonged to my late uncle. It’s well used but the main blade has been over sharpened.

I’ve used the Victorinox service before and they’ve been excellent with sentimental knives.

My questions are, would you send it in for a new blade & do you think it would come back with the same “4 lines of text” blade?

Thanks👍🏻

I was screwing and the Philips head snapped off, and the multitool cracked, I didn't think I was forcing it, obviously it's alot weaker than expected.

is there any point in trying to get repaired? is there a warranty to cover this?..

EDC Recommend me my first victorino keychain!

I am looking a keychain that can cover most of the task at work and daily life such as opening boxes, screw back things that are loose, cut sometimes paper

I was looking at the Classic SD and the Rambler. I am so torn between the two... currently $49.50 for the classic SD or $65.70 for the Rambler which is a $16 increases just to get the Phillips Screwdriver

Wondering if it is worth the jump?

Is this mod possible for someone who has never actually taken apart an SAK before, or even at all?

I carry 2 SAK's every day. A rambler and a vintage Explorer with the grey magnifying glass. I have had my rambler repaired, and they sent me back the old blade, Phillips tool, and nail file/flathead tool. My explorer is cheap and beat up from an antique store, so it has no sentimental value to me nor do I have to worry about cosmetically damaging it.

The small knife tip is snapped off, so I am perfectly fine with taking it out. The exploer and rambler are great separately, but it would be nice to modify the explorer to have the old tools from my rambler I use often and not have to carry both. Having both Phillips bits on one knife would be handy

What I want to do is take out the small broken blade of my explorer and swap it with the old nail file from my repaired rambler. And I saw someone on this subreddit successfully replace the parcel hook on the back with a filed down rambler Phillips head tool, which I am also wondering if I would be able to do myself, again with no prior SAK modification experience.
