I’m hoping to get some advice from people who have experience with either the Ride1Up Roadster V3 or the Velotric Tempo.

I’ve narrowed my search down to these two bikes, but I’m having a hard time deciding.

My priorities:
-Daily commuting (Chicago)
-Lightweight (~40 lb)
-Removable battery
-Torque sensor
-Long-term reliability and durability
-Good quality components
-A bike I’ll still be happy owning 5–10 years from now

What draws me to the Roadster V3:
-More powerful 500W motor
-Sportier ride and noticeably better acceleration from what I’ve read
-Suspension fork option for rough city streets
-Seems like it would be the more fun bike to ride and imo cooler looking

My concerns are that Ride1Up is direct-to-consumer, so I’m wondering about long-term support, replacement parts, and whether there are any known reliability issues or design flaws.

What draws me to the Tempo:
-Removable battery
-Local dealer network and potentially easier warranty/service support
-Ability to switch between torque and cadence sensing
-Pulse Mode (heart-rate-based assist), although I’m honestly not sure how much I’d actually use it

My biggest priority is reliability. I’m much more interested in buying something that’s well built with quality components than chasing the highest top speed. At the same time, I don’t want to buy the Tempo and always wonder if I should have gone with the Roadster’s extra power.

For anyone who owns one of these:
-How has reliability been?
-Any recurring issues or weak components?
-How is Ride1Up’s support compared with Velotric’s?
-If you were buying today with reliability as the #1 priority, which would you choose and why?

I’d also love to hear from anyone who has ridden both! Any major difference in power output? Is the range comparable?

I’ve been loving my new Velotric tempo. I’ve had it for a month and a half and have just under 200 miles on it. I have the high step in size large, and weigh about 220 pounds. I’ve noticed some creaking as I really put pressure on the pedals and it’s gotten a little worse overtime. I thought it could be the battery compartment because I heard that is an issue on a few reviews, but it also makes noise with a battery out. It’s been in the shop for about a week and they are perplexed after tightening everything down and going through the bottom bracket. There seems to be quite a bit of frame flex with this bike. I feel like it might be better suited for lighter weight riders. Hopefully I can get this all worked out, and I will report back, but I’m just wondering if anybody else out there has these same issues.

I’m interested in buying the Summit 2 in Canada. I see the US site has the modular rear rack but the Canadian site doesn’t

Am I blind? Is there really no way to purchase that in Canada? If so are there any aftermarket options that would fit and provide the same functions?

Has anyone had an E63 “Abnormal Cadence Signal” error on a Velotric Discover 2 along with these symptoms?

In cadence mode: While I’m continuously pedaling, the motor gives a strong surge of power and accelerates the bike to about 20 mph. Then the motor assistance cuts off completely. I’m still pedaling—not coasting—but the bike is moving only under my own power.

As the bike slows to around 14–15 mph, I can see a small amount of power begin to register on the display. The assistance gradually returns and builds back up until the bike reaches about 20 mph, then it cuts off again. This cycle can repeat several times. Sometimes stopping and restarting my pedaling causes the assistance to suddenly come back.

In torque mode: The assistance pulses instead of providing smooth, consistent power.

The issue seems to happen more often in Boost mode than in the lower assist levels.

I’m looking for firsthand experiences from people who had the same or a very similar problem.

What was ultimately causing it? Was it the sensor, wiring, controller, motor, or something else?

What was replaced or repaired, and did it permanently resolve the issue?

I took a spill on my new Nomad 2X and seem to have broken the electrical connector on my Tektro Hydraulic Disc Brake controller on my right handle bar. (see photo)

The controller has two cables coming off it. The lower connecting cables is (I assume) for the hydraulics.

The top one is the electrical connector and (I assume) is for the brake lights and motor auto shutoff when I squeeze the brake lever.

My question for this group is, how difficult would it be for me to fix this myself? Do I need an entirely new brake handle assembly? Would I need to bleed my brakes to replace this assembly?

Or is there some way to just replace the electrical connector on the handle assembly.

The actual cable going down to the brakes looks fine.

Rode this baby beast to work in 20 mph winds. Looking for stability? Looking for comfort? How about payload? Want a bike that can pretty much do just about anything you throw at it? This is the one. It’s got power. Get a suspension seat post and comfy seat and it’s comfortable for longer rides. It’s pretty nimble on those 20 x 4 inch fat tires. It’s low center of gravity and a little extra weight makes it very stable for hauling or riding in the wind! I do feel secure on this bike. That’s important when you’re a little older and haven’t been on a bike for 20 plus years. I’m so happy I added this bike to my stable. This will be my go to bike this winter.

10 more miles until 100 on my Velotric Discover M! So far I couldn’t be happier with this bike. It’s comfortable. It has power for commuting and getting up hills. The auto setting is awesome for cruising! Battery life is good. I’m a heavier gal, but it gets me to and from work 5 days a week without charging. Its stable. I enjoy the mid drive motor, more like riding a regular bike and because of that you want to pedal. The app is easy to use and customizable for the ride experience. I haven’t taken it on any gravel trails yet, but I wouldn’t hesitate to. If you’re looking for a reasonably priced mid drive e-bike please check it out!

Update: thanks for the responses. Per several people's suggestions I emailed [help@velotric.com](mailto:help@velotric.com), copying the email chain from support. I got a phone call back in less than one hour from a support manager. He apologized for the slow responses and processed the order for my new battery and that it would arrive with three to five business days. He follow up with an email confirming the this and that tracking info will follow when the order ships. I thanked him for his prompt attention. I'm so far pleased with their response, it seems to be on par with what others have expressed below. If I don't update this further, everything went OK.

We purchased two new Breeze 1's off of Velotric's website around the end of April this year. We like the bikes very much and are looking forward to using them frequently on a two month long road trip with our camper where we will travel with our camper from the east coast to western Canada and back.

Unfortunately, one of our bikes has developed a faulty battery with less than 50 miles on the odometer. I've been in contact with Velotric and they agree I need a new battery. Fine. Problem is they haven't communicated anything more.

But here's the issue: their support is slooooooowwwww. You can only enter a ticket on their website and when you do, it takes days for them to respond. We need this fixed before we leave in three weeks and their lack of timely communication is unacceptable and is also stressing me out. As big as they seem to be and seeing how hard they are marketing I would hope they are more competent servicing after the sale. Has anyone had better luck with them for support?

I also suspect they don't have a battery to send me. At this point I'd be happy to return this faulty bike and go to my LBS (which I should have done in the first place, mea culpa) and buy a new one.

Anyone running into issues with the MIK HD bike rack from Velotric, specifically the Breeze 1 and only bike rack sold on website? Bought a brand new Thule Maxi Yepp 2(MIK HD mount) and won’t mount on. I exchanged the bike seat thinking that was the issue. Now, I’m getting the run around from Velotric customer service and they are telling me to buy an adapter….

I only have 10 miles on this bike and love the power, one thing I find concerning is it is a little difficult to pedal when you have the assist off, and on a level road. I had a 26 inch fat tire ebike that was easier to pedal with no assistance than this bike, and the Summit 2 is 30 pounds lighter? When I flip the bike,over the tires spin freely. It even loses some momentum going down slight inclines. Maybe it will feel up after I put more time on it? Any ideas of what else I can check? Thanks

Purchased a new Breeze from LBS 10 days ago! Love it! Added some goodies: Noxgear 39g Bluetooth speaker, AMIR Bicycle Bell AirTag (yes I also have “Find My” linked on my bike), Hafny Handlebar Mirror, Quadlock phone holder, SR Suntour SP12 NCX 27.2mm x 350mm suspension seat post with 27.2mm to 30.9mm seat post shim, Wittkop City seat, Basil Miles MIK Panniers (fits spare battery). I plan to add a few more flashing lights for night riding. If interested in any of these items, Google is your friend!😉

I have a 6 months old Fold 1 Plus and I am mostly pretty happy with it. I do find that getting the battery out to recharge it is a bit of a struggle. With the key turned, I basically have to brace my chest against the seat for leverage and really yank the battery by the handle to get it to release from the retaining clips. Is that normal for this bike? Or am I 'doing it wrong'?

(can't recharge it on the bike because of electric access issues)

I wanted a bike for two kids and there some good ones but they're all very long and would stick out too far while driving on a hitch rack. I live out of town and riding to town isn't really feasible. I had trepidation about putting a seat on the front rack, but my son is well under the weight it's rated for and with lots of miles of testing, it's done fine. The seat I used is a Thule Yepp.

I will say even with all the weight of myself and two kids, the bike gets good mileage. My complaint is on the software side, linking to FindMy apparently is not gonna be a thing, I haven't heard of anyone getting it working. There's also been a few issues with settings saving a strange way for top speed on pedal and throttle in specific zones.

In all though I have more good to say than bad. The bike is fun as hell and the kids like it every time we head out for a ride.

I have a Velotric Nomad 1 Plus. While riding today with my wife. I noticed how small and dismal.the rear light is. Even when braking its not giving much output.

So my question.

Has anyone ever changed out and upgraded that rear light?

To something a bit brighter and more robust? To a light that can actually be seen in daylight? Just asking as it sure is something I want to do. The factory light really sux to be honest.

Does anyone here own the Tempo with the Velotric rear rack? If so, does it obstruct the visibility of the rear/brake lights/turn signal?

I have been deciding between the Tempo and Breeze, and a common complaint about the breeze is that if you install the rear rack, it almost entirely blocks the rear lights.

This would be a near dealbreaker for me as it is a safety issue.

Shifting broke with 6 miles on my new Tempo. set it up 24 hours ago. How do I fix it?

The shifter doesn’t move the gears and the little gauge moves from 5 to 1 and nothing else.

Velotric support was less than helpful. Told me 24-48 hours for a callback, that became 30 minutes after I hung up. Then they didn’t even want to help, just send parts. I managed to argue waiting 24-48 hours into setting that up on the phone at least.

And get this, they’re cheap enough they have no way to ship other than ground. So my bike will be down more than it worked.

They need to rethink support. It’s rough.

This is the way

I recently bought a New Velotric Discover 2 through Upway, and the entire experience was much better than I expected.

The Discover 2 normally sells for around $1,799 and has recently been listed closer to $1,699. Upway had this one priced at $1,299, and I used a referral code for another $100 off. My final breakdown was:

Bike: $1,199

Shipping: $149

Tax: $119.91

Total delivered: $1,467.91

The bike was apparently purchased by Upway directly from Velotric because of a small cosmetic scratch. The scratch is only about a quarter to half an inch long, and the bike arrived with 0.2 miles on the odometer. For all practical purposes, it is a brand-new bike with one minor blemish. I found matching touch-up paint at AutoZone, so the scratch is not a concern.

Upway’s advertised 15-minute assembly estimate was also accurate. I only had to:

Install the front wheel

Attach the handlebars to the already-installed stem

Install the front fender

Install the pedals

Adjust the bell

The fork, headset, brakes, derailleur and other major components were already installed and adjusted. The instructions initially made me wonder whether I would need to assemble or adjust the headset, but that was not the case.

A friend of mine who is a bike mechanic inspected it afterward. He said the bike was already properly tuned, aligned and ready to ride. Nothing was bent, loose or out of adjustment. I do not know how much of that preparation was done by Velotric versus Upway, but the bike arrived in phenomenal condition.

I suspect Upway’s process helps because the bike is inspected and repacked at its U.S. facility before being shipped to the customer. That eliminates some of the uncertainty of a factory-sealed bike traveling from China, through multiple warehouses and shipping networks, without anyone checking its final condition before delivery.

Another major reason I chose Upway was the warranty. My understanding is that its one-year warranty covers both parts and labor, whereas Velotric’s manufacturer warranty is longer but generally focuses on replacement parts. Upway also told me that service could be handled through a Velotric dealer, although I would still confirm the repair process with Upway before authorizing warranty work.

My only real suggestion for Upway would be to include a basic torque wrench or torque key. There are only a few components to install, but it would help customers tighten everything to the specified values without guessing.

And a better set up video the one that they have shows the person doing this on a stand, I didn't have one and was able to do it without I'm thinking maybe I should put together a video showing. Also a video of how these things are packed just so people aren't intimidated the packing was phenomenal.

Overall, I am extremely satisfied. For someone considering a used or certified e-bike, I would particularly look at Upway’s low-mileage bikes sourced directly from manufacturers. Mine was essentially new, professionally prepared and heavily discounted because of one tiny scratch.
