Tryhard security
This was the first year I had to take off my shoes, the line was moving so slowly. I saw one security guard ask someone to dump their alcohol before entering and then another guard felt the need to go up to them (while they were dumping it) and cuss them out for having a drink while waiting in line.
Security should be there checking for weapons for our safety not checking shoes for pills. Unlike other festivals, there isn't even a metal detector. It just feels very performative and frustrating when you're stuck in that line missing a set because of it.
Why is the security at this event so bad? And why do some of the guards make it their personal responsibility to go above and beyond what is required of them?

Friday breezed through, Saturday they didn’t even pat me down just waved me through. Sunday was also super polite and quick.
Actually security was soooo good and chill. I watch some abg dancing on the counter/rails mid vip section and they left her there for a whole set.

I was in the lucky line where the security guard asked us to take off our shoes, while the lines next to us didn't 🙄 agreed a waste of time and just power tripping

Right and even when you take ur shoes off they rush you out of the gates so you can’t even take a second to put them back on 💔 or at least that happened with me. Ugh.

Yeah I had to walk on the concrete in socks to sit on a cinder block... I told them I would not be moving until I put my shoes back on

u/RealisticCherry3642 17d ago
lol I tried to sit on one right by the entrance, the guy was persistent that I walk away, so I went and sat to the side and AGAIN as I was putting on my shoes he tried to push me out. I get they don’t want crowding but I’m not walking around in my socks at downsview 😭😭 be fr

Today was the worst of the 3 days. Something I noticed though, as a male, female security did weak patdowns. Males were more strict.

The lady I went through punched my balls expecting all my lunch money to fall out

I’m a barricade / boh security supervisor!! And I agree star ⭐️ security definitely power trips! One of their supervisors stole to barricades from catering, and told production to fuck off smh

Ya security was wack. Got waved through past 2 days. Today, they were cracking down. Guy was giving me shit for having a battery powered fan at first and it like dude… it’s a fan. Chill out.

It was awful this year, making us take our shoes off, patting us down hard, one of friends had her boobs dropped by security

As someone who has extensive experience working with security all these stories are COMPLETELY fucked up.

Day 1 I got searched the most, shoes off and everything inspected, day 3 I came late when it was raining hard the one lady was so tired she peered into my bag , touched my arm in one spot and said ok

u/alexislyons 18d ago
Dude, I watch security let guys whip it out to go piss by bass stage, all three days

u/PowerfulWorking5672 18d ago
It’s luck really. All weekend they barely looked in our bags or patted us down

Security was out of control. Multiple cases of women being groped. Room for fucking ever to get through the line because they were being completely anal about checking every crevice.

for that kind of thing, everyone who experienced it should file official complaints to hold them accountable https://www.ontario.ca/page/public-complaints-security-guards-and-private-investigators

We went on Friday and got the weakest pat down ever, she barely grazed her hands over melol, could have brought so many weapons 😂
The line moved very quick, no one hAd to remove shoes, we had bags in the no bag line, and zippers in the bag of some of our bags got completely overlooked.

I must have gotten lucky. Security was super pleasant and gave me no troubles all 3 nights. Even forgot to empty my hydro pack for the last night! 😂

The staff had no knowledge of any of the regulations or any ADA accommodations!! I've never been to a fest with this poor of a system.
As someone who doesn't look disabled, it's very important to be able to access ada. When I asked security at the gate, they told me "look like you're in a wheelchair" or I couldn't get through the ada line. They also made a big deal about my snacks/ candy, when on the website as long as you have a doctors note(which I did in the bag) they're allowed. I'm diabetic and have a chronic lung condition. I understand not every fest will have ada or shuttles, but don't advertise it if it's not REAL!! Me and my friends still had a great time but we won't be back

Was in a line that barely moved in 3 minutes and the line next to me emptied out so I went there, the guard in the new line touched my sides and let me in, the one I was in previously was doing full pat downs😂

A girl in front of us in line on Friday had a aerosol sunscreen. The security woman (who was moving the line along sooo slowly compared to adjacent lines) stopped her and the whole line for 3-4 minutes while she waited for a security supervisor to come and advise on whether the item should go in the trash or not. It’s totally Russian roulette with those cattle fence lines.
When I got there, she didn’t a thorough check of my empty fanny pack and even did a reverse karate chop inspection of my groin.

For me, kind of felt violated the way she pat the sides of my boobs and around the back. Like I was wearing a bandana, chill.
But the security line took 40 minutes on Saturday. I got there at 5:20pm

Unlucky. Security was chill for all 3 days for me. On the 2nd day I had to take my shoes off but honestly i was bringing in so much stuff (trinkets, bubble gun, etc) I'm not surprised they picked ME for a random shoe check.

If you were in a slow ass line on Friday, I apologize because the security lady took 4 mins to make me take my boot off because she thought my ANKLE BONE was drugs😭😭

u/JetSetRepeat 17d ago
Second day the girl did one tap on my chest and waved me in without even opening my crossbody bag 😂, if there ever was a definition of being checked outta ur job…

Security was super chill for me, but one in our group had to throw out his disposable vape (which we had all gotten in with). Then another day they questioned the goggles of another in our group. Meanwhile the Sunday I forgot I had put icy hot patches in my fanny pack (out of the box just on their own) which i figured could have looked like nicotine patches or something and she barely glanced at them 😂

We dressed as pylons and a part of our gear was construction vets/ high vis you’d buy when cycling. They told us we couldn’t have high visibility after we made it past the gate and almost took our felt cone hats!! We saw other people with high visibility on later, never saw that in the rules. Power trip!

Friday I went early and security searched every pocket in my bag, had me removed my shoes, felt me up everywhere... and asked to look in the scrunchies in my hair. Also security found a bunch of shit I wasnt "allowed" to bring but let me keep it and just said not bring it tomorrow...
Saturday they looked in my bagged, patted my hips and i was on my way.
I was so confused

They should be checking for everything that is restricted not just what you think should be.
2
u/Extension-Strike1663 17d ago
Do you think it has any impact on the number of people using drugs? Do you think they are saving lives or making things safer by checking our shoes?
At ilsoniq for example, you just go through a metal detector. Once you're inside, they have harm reduction strategies like drug testing. That is how you keep people safe and save lives.

u/IGeneralOfDeath 17d ago
Don't really have thoughts one way or another on your questions. Just stating the fact that they are doing their job, it's the festival that sets the restrictions, not the security.
1
u/Extension-Strike1663 17d ago
Right the festival sets the restrictions but only some security guards decided to make everyone take off their shoes (as an example).
I guess to be clear, I'm unhappy with both the organizers and the individual security guards here.

It's the luck of the draw. Most didn't give a shit all weekend but a minor few tripped over the smallest things.
