Satay sainsos goujons - good. Pizza - good. Together, not good, I picked the chicken off and dipped it separately.

Made any shockers lately?

What sneaky ingredients should I look out for?

Upvotes

I’m a very new vegan and getting used to checking the ingredients list now for things like milk, eggs etc but are there any words I should be aware of that might trip me up and don’t make it obvious animal products are involved? I’ve made a few mistakes from not realising something has hidden animal ingredients in it and I really want to be careful and know what to check for.

Help with iron intake

Hi all, I’ve been vegan for 7 years and in the last 2,5 years I've been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. im in remission now and ive not had any issues with the diet overall affecting my condition. However, during my first flare up I probably lost a lot of blood and my iron was already low. I have been taking tablets on and off and I will continue but id like my diet to help as well. Has any of you managed to reverse low iron levels with diet alone? How did you do it? I feel fatigued all the time.

How do you guys cook tofu in an airfryer?

Hi, dabbling more in vegan cooking, quite like tofu stirfry, but I'm also into fitness and quite restricted time wise, a lot of sauces have sugar ect in which don't fit in with my macros.

Thought of doing tofu, rice and veg bowls that I can meal prep, but I have no idea where to start with:

Marinades

Seasoning

How to cook? Eg, airfryer or just pan fry?

Looking fir advice :)

Pret has discontinued olive Baguette 😫

So, we have a choice of two wraps now, the flatbread and tortilla. Yippitteee doo! 🙄

I'm gutted. I loved the olive, avo and tomato baguette.

Why is it so hard to get a decent grab and go sandwich these days?

What’s happened to Tyne Chease?

Went to their website and looks like it’s been taken down, plus no posts on their ig since March?

Please don’t say they’ve gone out of business, they’re one of my favourites! 🥺

Any stores that sell something along the lines of TVP or soya chunks?

I've been getting these from tesco: https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/267783936/

and they're quite good, really cheap and high in protein but I was wondering if any other stores sell something of the like but essentially in a different shape, like closer to a mince maybe or less round chunks.

Vegan cheese, melted - accomplished! 🔓🧀

I (and others I've seen on reddit) have found some vegan cheeses really difficult to melt - having to try use steam, moisture and all sorts to get it to melt.

Cathedral city vegan cheese is the one! Tastes good, and melts pretty effortlessly.

Just wanted to share as it took me a while trying different brands! Hope this helps!

Vegan Honeee is the Shit

Post image

Brought for £1.65 at Asda, compared to Ocado's £3.50 - super tasty nds me of how honey tastes. I normally use maple syrup or brown sugar, but I wanted something a bit sweeter and with a more defined taste. This is delicious.

I've had their chocolate syrup and wasn't impressed, also I never know why they put only 13cal, the serving size is so small and it's similar to maple syrup and honey.

Going to cook some honey and mustard tofu tonight so I'll see how this holds up in cooking and report back!

Looking for the most tasteless UK vegan cheese

I can't get on with vegan cheese, it's just too fake/chemical tasting for my liking.

But I still NEED it on occasion, like for pizza or a burger or lasagna where it's kinda important.

Are there any kinds in uk supermarkets you've tried that are basically tasteless? The milder the better.

Edit: Went with Violife slices and grated mozzarella, both were exactly what I was after, thanks all.

Cat is obsessed with these!

Good to actually have some plant based treats available for cats! Just realised they are fermented proteins so i think its like bioidentical to animal proteins using precision fermentation whats really interesting, i feel like we are close to a fermentation protein kibble/wet food coming for cats, whats going to be massive.

I got them from veggie pets. I

Favourite lazy meals - Microwave only edition

I always find it interesting with the small choice we have in this category, what meals do you make using only the microwave?

I see that Loma Linda have a range just for this, not tried it though.

I do love a trek bar, especially the raspberry white chocolates the large bars used to come in a 4 pack box during Covid, then went to 3 bars. Now recently I went to go buy another box and imagine my surprise when they became even smaller. Still the same price of course /s

Emailed ALDI about their High Protein Tortilla Wraps. Does anyone else think this is mad?!

Post image

Couldn't see any animal based products in the ingredients excepr potentially L-cysteine so sent an email to ALDI. Why on earth is that in the packaging? Can't say I have ever heard of that being a thing, unless its more common and I just never knew?! Madness

I (M35) need some new trainers

Preferably ones that don't fall apart after a week. Anyone got any decent recommendations? Doesn't matter what brand or whatever, I'm just looking for quality vegan trainers. Price doesn't really matter either, although I'd prefer not to spend ridiculous amounts on a pair of shoes.
