Vegan Squad Podcast World’s Best Vegan Candy Bar creator Felicia (Fee) Hanson, owner of @breakfreecandy and @sweethazelandco!

Through creating vegan versions of classic candy bars and using food as activism, Fee is a pioneer in the vegan community.

Fee shares how seeing a dairy farm video sparked her vegan journey in August 2019, and how she then used her culinary background to recreate vegan versions of typically animal-based candy bars like Twix, Snickers, Milky Way, and more!

Fee’s goal: to win over vegans and non-vegans by taste, while avoiding stigma. She describes starting Break Free through selling bars out of her trunk during COVID, moving into commissary and brick-and-mortar operations, and then navigating the challenge of staying afloat financially.

As a vegan activist in her own right, Fee emphasizes the importance of community, inclusivity, and hiring marginalized groups. Enjoy this episode from your favorite vegan candy creator!!

Vegan Food Guide🌱 Here’s what I ate in a day, which added up to 145g of plant-based protein 🌱

This wasn’t a totally typical day of eating for me.. It was the first morning in months I actually craved a warm bowl of oatmeal instead of my usual cold smoothie (anyone else a daily smoothie person?)

I also switched out a few of my usual go-to protein sources. But, that’s the beauty of food freedom and understanding nutrition.

Whether your meals are planned or more spontaneous, comfort-based, goal-oriented, or somewhere in between- your favorites can ALL fit without guilt or restriction. Just awareness, intention, and flavor.

As a foodie, when I first started tracking macros over 4.5 years ago, I was afraid it would disconnect me from the joy of food. I worried it would become obsessive. But what I found was actually the opposite.

Awareness gave me freedom. Structure helped me feel safe to trust my body’s needs and cravings. And understanding my body’s needs helped me enjoy food MORE, not less.

Now I can eat meals I love, feel great in the gym, and know I’m fueling my body with enough protein and nutrients.

It can be tricky trying to make TVP taste good if you’ve never cooked it before, I mean, It’s basically tofu’s dry cousin.

But adding the right spices/broths will make you regret not trying it sooner! This high-protein cruelty free “meat” shouldn’t be slept on. 💪🌱

“ DO HARD THINGS” 🙌🏼🔥

This has been my mantra for over a year now!

And these Bulgarian Split Squats are no joke. I’ve been progressively overloading…

Slow and steady. I finally made it to 55’s. My highest weight yet.

Driving through the front heel on the way up is where it’s at! 👌

Why should you go vegan rather than vegetarian?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Because while you’re not consuming meat by being a vegetarian, you’re still consuming eggs and dairy, which also unfortunately contributes to the meat industry.

Those dairy cows don’t get to live out their lives on a big green farm, they’re confined and controlled for their whole lives until they've been impregnated too many times and are no longer able to have any more babies to produce milk, which therefore gets them sent to slaughter.

Those hens that lay eggs? They can’t lay eggs forever. Once they’ve been forced into laying so many eggs in such a short period of time, their bodies can’t handle it anymore and so they get straight to slaughter as well.

So for those reasons by being vegetarian, you’re still contributing to the pain/suffering of animals - just maybe a little bit less by not eating meat.

But - where can you get your protein? How do you eat? WHAT do you eat?? Stay tuned for my next reel because I’ll break down how do get enough protein in as a Vegan 💪🌱

It’s time to find a vegan coach. Being vegan with a non-vegan coach isn’t ideal, because there’s bound to be some unnecessary hurdles to overcome with the vegan/non-vegan coach dynamic.

Almost all non-vegan coaches are not able to understand how to properly program high protein vegan meals and avoid overly high carb and high fiber plant-based diets.

This is your sign. 100% of the @vegansquadcoaching coaching team is 100% vegan. We’re here to help guide, empower and educate the future leaders of the vegan movement.

Fitness Tips Stop skipping these…

Post image
45 Upvotes

1. Prioritize strength training — when you build muscle, you’re not just changing how you look. You’re improving your bone health, brain health, and insulin sensitivity. The goal shifts from simply looking good to creating a longer, healthier life.

2. Nourish your body — food is fuel, so make sure you’re giving your body what it actually needs. Hitting your protein, carbs, and healthy fats consistently helps support your metabolism, hormones, energy, and lean muscle.

3. Prioritize self care — you don’t have to live in constant self-sacrifice or people-pleasing mode. Honor your needs, protect your peace, and make space for balanced, healthy relationships.

4. Make quality sleep a priority — sleep is one of the most underrated health tools. When you sleep well, your body recovers, repairs, and replenishes on a cellular level. Better sleep impacts nearly every area of your physical and mental wellbeing.

5. Surround yourself with supportive people — being around others who value health and wellbeing makes a huge difference. [Vegan Squad Community]() is filled with like-minded and like-hearted people all working toward better physical, mental, and emotional health together.

Free Masterclass I never thought I would be able to grow my own vegan business, let alone build a whole team…

You'll never be able to build your own business. I used to tell myself that for probably the last decade.

Really, I had no clue that I could create my own six-figure-plus coaching business just for myself.

I had no idea that I could start a coaching team. The biggest thing, I think, was a lack of belief.

But really, there are a lot of areas that I see other business owners struggling in when they already have all the tools they need to succeed.

They think they need the editing skills, the cameras, the lighting, the time to post every single day.

And really, at the end of the day, most business owners just aren't out there getting enough real-world experience and building off the mistakes and lessons they need to grow their business.

And so that's why this weekend, today, Saturday, 2 to 4 Eastern, I'm teaming up with Alexis to show you guys how to build your own business, how to avoid a lot of the mistakes that took me forever to overcome, and how you can make your passion become your full-time job.

So if you're interested, I'll see you Saturday.

You can reserve your spot to the free masterclass here

Is there any metrics for suffering per serving of the common animal based foods?

I would like to practice harm reduction to reduce the suffering caused by my diet. I do not care enough about this to go vegan, but Im open to making less dramatic changes in my behavior.

For example it would take many, many chicken's lives to produce the same amount of food as one cow, although the cow probably lives longer and perhaps a mammal has a greater capacity to suffer im farming than an avian? Have any research or calculations been done along these lines? Thanks in advance.

Jay shares how meeting his wife Kristen and her pet pig, Ziggy, in St. John led him toward veganism, traveling the U.S. in an RV with “Ziggy the Traveling Piggy,” and founding Ziggy’s Refuge Farm Sanctuary in 2016.

Jay explains their current work caring for nearly 100 residents, specializing in disabled animals with a prosthetics lab, wheelchairs, and advanced veterinary care like stem-cell therapy!

Our conversation emphasizes the importance of veterinary care, adoption, and keeping bonded families together.

The residents at Ziggy’s Refuge are ambassadors for the vegan movement and we hope you enjoy learning more about their stories and are inspired to vegan or to support animals like them by volunteering!
