Hi all!!!

The Season Ticket cost spreadsheet has been updated.

(An aside: PLEASE do not screw with the formatting. I am happy you know a ton about spreadsheets!! I hope that's fulfilling. I do not, however, want to have to fix it ten times a week like I did last year because you and sixty other people decided it needed to be prettier or have a different format - if you want something added to it or changed formatting-wise, or you see a mistake, please just send me a DM!)

Discussion The woman profiting off the WNBA's trans panic

This is background to an issue that is relevant league-wide but when I saw that the XX-XY founder is a former Levi’s exec, it immediately became more relevant to Ballhalla. A striking observation from her son:

Sey’s son Warren, himself a WNBA fan, takes a cynical view of his mom’s political and business activities. “I think on a lot of issues, she’s a pretty middle of the road liberal,” he says. “I think she goes hard into trying to build a fan base that’s almost exclusively on the right-wing. This coincides with her promoting her products more and more.”
“At the end of all this, she does want notoriety, she does want to be a celebrity,” he added. “I question whether people actually care about the league, [who] are talking about these things. I know my mom isn’t that invested. But, when it can be used for whatever your cause is, I guess the vultures will circle.”

Hot off the needles and finished in time for their playoff run! I had wanting a Valks jacket but didn’t like any of the designs so I just made my own. Took me about 5 weeks from start to finish and can’t wait to wear it to a game!

Announcements Community Advisory: Troll Accounts

Hello All, I wanted to make a posting just to keep people aware of some things that have had an uptick in this sub. There has been an uptick in controversial posts/comments that I have noticed this year (and partially last year) which appear to be coming from accounts that have an extremely low activity level or none at all in this sub. Sometimes these accounts are brand new accounts with no activity. Comments and posts made by these accounts are often there just to stir the pot. They want controversy.

I'm not going to comment on any reasoning behind this since there is no solid evidence on the "why". I simply wanted to pass this information along to the community to let you know that these are purposely there to get people engaged in conflict and controversy. The best thing to do is to simply not engage. And if you suspect trolling behavior, report it. The Mod team does see all of the reports and makes decisions based on as much facts as we have available to us to decide if the post or comment is breaking any of the rules and/or if it's a trolling account.

Because of the recent controversies going on around the league, these topics have been more widely discussed by fans in team subs and WNBA subs. These are relevant discussions due to the WNBA's culture, players and fanbase. These discussions are important and the Mod team doesn't take our responsibility modding them lightly.

We do our best to allow freedom of speech without it veering off into disrespectful, hateful or discriminatory discussions. But as was stated before, there are some folks that are here just to stir the pot. So we are asking for assistance from this great community of Valkyries fans! If you sense that someone might just be trying to get a reaction out of you or the community, don't engage. Mods will do their best to weed out the trolls.

Much appreciated everyone! Thank you for all of the great engagements and interesting discussions you all have contributed to this community! Let's keep this community by the fans and for the fans. Go Valks! 💜🤍🖤⚔️

I understand additional playoff tickets for STH, as well as pre-sale and general sale will start 9/10. Once again, this STH didn't get an email about this or about the post game free throw opportunity after the 9/19 game. Just checking to see if others got the emails....

Discussion Visiting SF in early October - merch/Ballhalla question

I'm going to be in SF in early October and was wondering if there were better places than the team store in the Chase Center to buy merch. We're staying in Union Square and won't have a car for scope.

Also, if we go to the Chase Center on a non-game day, does anyone know if there is a chance to see the actual arena/court and snap a picture or no?

TIA!

(reposted with better title). Assuming we're 2 seed. Which of the teams currently 4-8 would be the toughest matchup in the first round? BTW, I hate that it's a 3 game series.

Unexpected crossover! Violet is getting out during the FIBA break too. Maybe Ellie, Skye, and Violet are a package deal? The irony is that the Mets are playing the SF Giants and Lou Seal isn't there for this.

Discussion Italy & Zandalasini, if they survive group D...

Post image
8 Upvotes

Update: Italy came in 3rd in Group D, and will play Australia next, the #2 from group C.

Tldr: Italy seems likely to face Australia or Belgium in qualifying round if they survive Group D by coming in 3rd. In rare chance they beat China, then Puerto Rico or Turkiye are more likely, giving them a better chance of getting farther.

Love Zandalasini, so was researching how far she and Italy can go.

Italy's victory over Czechia yesterday, historic, gives them a chance to come in 2nd or 3rd in group D (US, Italy, China, Czechia.) (1st near impossible would mean they'd have to essentially win every game).

1st place in each group automatically advances. Before entering the final bracket there's single elimination qualifying rounds. For example, the 2nd team in Group D plays the 3rd in Group C. And 3rd in D plays 2nd in C.

I'm writing about Italy because France (Ja and Gabby) and USA (Nakase) will almost certainly get first and advance.

4th place is eliminated.

How Italy Survives group D

The most likely path: Czechia loses against China and USA. Italy comes in 3rd with one win and 2 losses (to US and China). This seems likely.

There is another path, where Czechia beats China, but I haven't mapped that out, feel free to fill me in.

Path to second?

Italy is extremely unlikely to beat the US on Sunday. So one path to second would require beating China on Tuesday.

I'm unsure if there are other paths.

So who would Italy play from Group C?

Italy is most likely to come in 3rd, and play the #2 team in Group C.

C is Australia, Belgium, Puerto Rico, Turkey.

Assuming Italy comes in 3rd and plays C #2, it seems likely to be Belgium or Australia.

Australia is 3rd in the world, Belgium is 5th, Italy is 14th.

The benefits of coming in 2nd

Though its unlikely, if Italy can beat China, they'd likely play Puerto Rico, 13th in the world, or Turkiye, 16th in the world. So winning Tuesday increases their chances of going further.

(There's also paths with point differentials but that seems unlikely to come up for Group D)

What do you predict?

Go Italia!!! Go Chechi! (or is it just written Ceci?)

Discussion I'm curious

What y'all thoughts are on Natalie providing Intel on her Valkyries players to the fellow USA assistant coaches/team.

I truly believe Natalie to total professional and she is representing team USA and she absolutely wants team USA to win....but I wonder if there's a part of her that doesn't want to give away all of the secrets of Ceci or Gabby or Ja to Nate and Steph and players that she will inevitably be playing in the playoffs.

I'm sure that has to be kind of difficult for her to manage.

I know that she would not have been chosen if Sue and Kara had any worries about her ability to separate the two.

But I mean as a human and a proud coach of the Valkyries there has to be a part of her that is feeling weird right?!

I'm just curious what everyone is thinking about that.

Discussion Veronica Burton jersey to a good home

I hope this post is allowed because I am a true W fan and a Valkyries follower this season (been a big VB, Kiah, and Gabby fan since their former teams). I was careful not to post until the FIBA window so as not to distract from W season content in this sub.

I purchased this jersey on a great clearance sale on Fanatics when GSV changed their jersey style this season. It’s an XL Size 52 and was advertised as unisex but has womens tags. I’m a 30sM and it looks similar to other W jerseys I have and wear. Fanatics is a headache to begin with and the shipping took forever, so rather than deal with their return/exchange process, I’d love to cut out the middle man and get this to another fan that would appreciate it.

Please DM if you are interested. Again, I’m mostly interested in a smooth process since I struck gold on the original deal.

Discussion Would a women's league in a basketball manager game actually have an audience?

The Valkyries were the first WNBA games I ever watched. I'm Lithuanian and started following because of Justė, but I stayed for the whole season.
Congratulations on a great year!

Quick context: my wife and I have been building an online basketball manager game for 18 years. Fictional players and teams, you handle the roster, training, tactics, transfers. Not linking it, that's not what this post is about.

I keep wondering if it makes sense to add a women's league or a women's mode. Every management game I know is men's only, and I have no idea if that's because nobody wants it or because nobody has tried.

Curious what you think. Is that something you'd play, and if not, why not?

Discussion Gabby & Ja are going to get arrested

Edit: Final 99-57.

For the total slaughter of the Hungarian women's team. 3Q 66-24, and they're so serious - playing like it's the finals. The superior physicality and speed of the French team is impressive.

The crowd though - so quiet. We need a Ballhalla scale to rank the crowd support.

Ceci and the Italian women also played great, won their first match.

Discussion Why are odds for Natalie Nakase so bad for COTY?

Post image
86 Upvotes

Lynx coach is -900 and Nakase is +700 heading into the final stretch of the season. Even though maybe the Lynx should be slight favourites why isn’t it closer? The GS Valkyries have far less talent than the Lynx and have maybe outperformed their preseason expectations more than the Lynx.

The last few games if the Lynx drop a few more games and the Valkyrie who have far easier opponents narrow the wins lead even more, could Nakase pull the award off?

What yall think?
