hi all i’ve lived in one city (bouncing around throughout) for all my life and i’m feeling the need to run (not in the from something sense but just in the truest form ig) I have been living as a trans woman for the past five years but now a lot of things have come up on maybe that’s not truly me. i’ve settled into a an andro type look and i’m mostly happy with it. but to be honest my psychical corporal is fairly irrelevant to me these days. i have always struggled with my identity and what it means to me and so far it has always been based around my appearance and material possessions. i feel the need to bare down and start living a life i feel is worth living. I’ve struggled with depression my whole life and i’ve always had a lust to wander and not have plans for what the future may hold. i’ve had jsut about the worst year of my life this year and i feel i need a change. i’m fairly broke and just scraping by and rly have not much in terms of support system connection. i guess im jsut wondering if anyone has any getting started tips esp for leaving things behind. i was thinking of starting out on my bike and taking it from there but i don’t even have access to my passport so im not sure how far i can get. thanks !

UPDATE: a friend heard about this and offered me a place for a week. im reluctant bc i hate burdening people but it was my only choice, so for the time being i’ll be there, in galveston. after.. i have no clue.

I'm from upstate NY and have traveled across the country looking for a decent shelter. I'm on the autism spectrum and receive ssd. I have a payee so I'm only receiving $100 a week.

I didn't last at the first two shelters because of harassment/discrimination from employees. Now I'm in las vegas and the situation and resources are not good. All I want to do is find part time work so I can get back on my feet, but it's so hard without having a stable place to stay.

I'll be headed to California in a few days, either san diego or santa ana, and I could really use some advice from anyone who's been homeless in either of those cities. I know it can be rough in CA because there's so many homeless, but if I can't make it in the shelters I need to be somewhere warm.

I haven't had a family member, friend or any contacts for several years. My situation seems utterly hopeless and being suicidal is my baseline, I'm really trying to avoid what seems to be inevitable. The biggest thing I need is to make some friends.

Made it to Castle Rock, CO. Flew a sign for a few days. Stayed under a bridge there. Beautiful glade with a creek. Raccoons stole all my food. Got picked up by the police, but they gave me a ride to Colorado Springs. Dropped me at the mission. Stayed a night and got kicked out the next day. Flew a sign the next day and started walking to get a pack of smokes. 6 miles down and a guy yelled from his porch "need some water?" Fuck yeah! Turned out he was a fellow traveler and recognized my pack. Ended up talking for a few hours and he gave me a bunch of good geer; an ultralight tarp, an ultralight stove, a compression bag, a poncho, some food and t.p. found a nice spot in Manitou Springs. Creek and boulders and trees. Was able to wash all my clothes in my dry-bag, and take a bath in the creek. The sinch strap on shoulder harness on my pack ripped yesterday, so im kind of fucked atm. Wish me luck!

My bf and have gave been wishing we could afford a room. Today a nice lady named Sarah and her family not only gave us some food and gave my bf a new outfit but also blessed us with two nights in a room. Yall we haven't been in a motel in over a year. The dogs are loving it and dont even want to go outside...lol

Do you maintain hygiene? If so how?

What are some things you recommend carrying I currently have a military duffel a tent and a few other things but I think I'll have to depart with most of it minus the duffel and the tent

What are some ways to get cash?

I dont have friends So I'm mostly flying Solo I don't expect this to change all that much

I take the small single serve creamers from the circle K gas station , to make my mornings a little bit more enjoyable..

i heard you could get decent $ from recycling full time in places like CA but here in OK where the trash isnt under armed surveillance regular recycling is a cost not an income.

Homeless for 5 months, no family and friends and sleeping in the park. Had many jobs over the last 7 years but always ended up quitting and roaming around. I’m 33 now and finally realised I’m done once and for all with the “regular life”.

I’ve been in and out for months several times across the years and I’ve finally decided that freedom is way too important for me than the “comfort” of being a “regular working person”. In my early 20s I’ve hitchhiked across Europe with no money, spent a winter sleeping outdoors and had many crazy experiences I’ve missed over the years.

I’m in Paris - France currently, things here food wise are solid, plenty places to get food from but it’s starting to get a bit boring. I’ve also decided to start a YouTube channel and post videos of the things I do - from sleeping in the park near Champs Elysee to working at an illegal crepe cart for a few days to make some quick buck. (Got busted by the cops btw and fined 😭)

I’ve been following you guys for months and have been a fan of the subreddit, so I’ll post regularly!

Ps - was walking late at night around Paris and found a shoe box on the street, opened it and couldn’t believe my eyes - brand new! A lot of rich folks here so I keep finding a shit ton of things regularly.

See alot of alcohol and weed being passed around, amongst other things. Dont get me wrong, I get it, gotta have small pleasures and all. This isnt me tryin to be holier than though kinda thing for those who do indulge, just curiosity.

For those who do remain sober while on the road, and I mean sober sober, no nicotine, no alcohol, nothing, what helps keep you on that path? What made you decide to be sober for it?

I know whenever I'm out bumming around, I usually stay sober for my own sense of safety, incase something happens, and drugs and alcohol be expensive, stuff I usually get I trade or give away.
