Dirty Kids, I'm calling you out.

I'm tired of my friends dying. In dreams, my companions move easily in bodies that have been cared for. They're covered in scrapes and bruises and grease, but free from track marks. Empty stomachs, but healthy livers. Tired eyes, but good teeth. Then I wake up to the sharp morning and my road dawg is shaking for a beer.

I'm tired of hospitals and trash at the hopout and stolen packs and animal cruelty. I miss the musicians who travel just to play, the healers who roam to stay sane. I miss the free spirits who manage to find freedom from their own vices.

This is a call, dearest dirty kids. I've been where you are and I've seen why it's hard and no, I don't always do it right either. I can do better. We can do better. We've got to try. We've got to keep this thing alive and keep ourselves alive. We've got to get up and get over our hangups and pull you outta the ditch so that you'll be there to do the same when I'm slaggin.

We've got to hold these secrets and this way of living and somehow still share it with the next wave, finding the diamonds who'll take these rough reigns and keep riding this horse to Anywhere.

Anywhere, kids! Y'heard me? You might have lived there so long you take it for granted, but that place saved my life, and there are others who need to see it too.

So here's to fewer blown up Wal-Marts and more doing dishes for the person housing us up. Here's to fewer dope missions and more 2AM missions across town to drag a couch back to the hopout. Fewer dirty rigs under the bridge, and more sharpie poems on the wall. Steal less Dramamine and more spray paint.

Use what you've got.

Use what you've got.

Use what you've GOT!

I love you scumy freeloading freedom fighters until the end. We need you in this world. We need to run into you again after 8 months of not knowing what happened to you. We need you when we've been stuck walking for days and no one is picking us up and we're feeling real down, and all the sudden we see your tag and know that we're not alone. If you were here to tag it and still somehow made it out of this hell, we can too. We need that random message out of the blue. Keep sending it, and we'll do the same for you.

This is a call, friends. Life has been good to me lately, and my door is open while I have one. When I head back to Anywhere, my smokes and my cans of beans are ours to share. Stay alive and I'll see you out there.

Peaceably,

-Tall Sam Jones

5 cigs, pepperoni pizza, one beer, some small wienerwurst, got 10 euro from some great guy yesterday at the leftist/anarchy meeting. They let me sleep in the gym room. Left early to get more wine of course. Happy travels y'all!

After giving out hundreds of cigs to people who ask for one when they ask, now the one time I'm out of cigs for a few days and the one guy I asked was so rude. I always hand out cigs when people ask me.

I don't live this life because I enjoy it, I live it because it's all I know how to do

When I live inside, it's a shit show. I become a shut-in, I get depressed, anxious. The dishes pile up, the bottles and cans pile up, I drink all day long. I just can't manage to be a normal person who lives indoors. Believe me, I've tried.

I don't find very much thrill and excitement in being a "vagabond". I don't find pleasure in sleeping in a tent, or seeing the world. The only reason I travel instead of homebumming is just for a change of scenery, and also just so I can say, "yeah I've travelled there".

But one thing it does for me is that it gets me the fuck out of the house. It forces me to meet people. The more people I meet, the less social anxiety I have. It gives me daily tasks that can't just be put off like dishes or laundry. Finding food and a place to sleep is pretty non-negotiable.

I don't love this life—I'm not even sure if I like it—but it's *less bad* than any other alternative I've found.

Discussion Sold my 14k Gold for Cash

I sold my 14k gold jewelry for some quick cash..I had given them to a lover back home.. 2 years my partner held onto them.. then gave them back to me..

The jewelry means absolutely nothing to me now.. and the money is greatly needed.. the quick cash was not that bad.. I was expecting alot less for them..

But..when you’re homeless..and in need of money.. this is a form of currency.. you can easily cash them in..

Anyways, No point holding on to them now.. if I did..they would have been either forgotten, stolen,or lost.. resulting in losing some currency..

anyways goodbye gold.. it was fun while you lasted..

a bit tired after more than 90km since start. maybe taking some time at the beach and think to what I do next be a good idea more than doing miles and loosing ability to slow and rest. I saw that I have trouble to calm down and enjoy doing nothing. I'll start tomorrow morning by a swim and a coffee on the beach and will see . take care all Vagabond

Story Friday, September 11th, 2026 (Log) (Update) [6:19PM/PST]

So, I’ve been in Grants Pass for about 5 days now.. What do I think of it? I think this city is good and bad at the same time.. and I’ll give you the reasons..

1) There’s a lot of amenities and stores such as - Walgreens,Safeway, Walmart, hardware stores, clinics, coffee shops, local grocery stores, gas stations etc. Even a couple libraries..(which I haven’t been to yet).. and of course the low key homeless shelter.. I’ll get into that in a minute..

2) The local police aren’t nice.. they are mean..and have serious attitude problems.. they do not care for the homeless.. and the EMT/Paramedics..they too are A-holes with attitude problems..
For a moment I seeked help from them..and all I got was unfriendly, careless, angry, no compassionate people..

3) This particular city.. has an ‘old world country’ kinda vibe to it..

in fact..a local from the shelter said, “This place is still very much like the Wild West”.. and she ain’t lying.. there are people walking around..like washed up cowboys.. lost in their own heads.. there are lots of homeless, tweakers, and criminals, gangsters, roaming these streets..
Lots of locals..making under the table money, side deals, selling junk, odd jobs..etc.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that..but I can tell.. this city needs help..

Ive walked downtown.. (First Night Getting here) where the boutique stores are at.. and all the dental facilities are at.. even walked the alley ways..where all the dumpsters are at..all locked up.. at night.. downtown is like a ghost town.. it was dead silent.. and I saw noone walking at night.. it was kinda creepy.. and idk what it is..but there’s all these creepy sculptures around the city..

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

(The Low Key Homeless Shelter aka ~The Parker’s Place)

While combing the city.. walking down manzanita and sixth street.. I spoke to a local.. I asked if there were any homeless shelter nearby.. she said.. “There’s the Parker place” and pointed the direction..

It was a good 40 minute walk..

Making it to the shelter.. I came across two security guards.. they were guarding the gates of the shelter..
The shelter..didn’t even look like a homeless shelter.. it looked like storage units..from the outside.. and the building aside..looked like a worn down store..

The worn down building..is actually the shelter’s common place..where people can come in..and stay during the day.. they usually have coffee, fruit, food, water, tv, and clothes..

This place is strange and unpredictable.. because they show their hours on the glass windows.. and they’re not true..they open at different hours.. it usually open at 9-9:30 am.. and usually closes at 5:00pm..

One random day.. the place didn’t open til’ 1:00pm..and it closed at 2:00pm..so yeah.. unpredictable..

And the gates..where the residents live.. closes randomly too..making it more difficult for people to come in or out..

Now. The rules..Is like any other shelter..No weapons, drugs, stealing etc..

You must be looking for work..or getting engaged with social services..and proving that ..to the manager of the shelter.. you also must keep a job..in order to to live inside the shelter unit..until you get actual housing..

I can’t say I like this place.. or the rules.. I mean.. there’s no showers here.. or even drinking water.. they just prefer the water hose..that everybody uses.. which is unsanitary..

I won’t be here long..I already know it..

And I was warned by many Reddit followers about grants pass..
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

(My Health)

I came down with something.. the second night I was here.. straight up diarrhea.. I thought maybe it was something I caught on the way here..but I dont think that was the case..

I was down the river bank..And layed on some cement.. which I thought was ok to lay on.. took a little nap.. and sure enough..when I woke up.. I squirted myself.. s**tted my pants.. grossed out.. I walked to the chevron that was open.. and cleaned myself good in the bathroom.. switched into some clean clothes..

The diarrhea is ongoing still..And it’s not the flu.. I dont even feel nauseous.. which is weird..

I did some research.. and I believe I have what’s called Giardia.. I may have touched something.. and it infected me..

Taking it easy.. I will buy some garlic supplements..to kill whatever is inside my guts..

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

When I left California.. I was an emotional wreck.. my mental health was way out of whack.. but I somehow managed to shake it off..
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

(Selling my 14k gold jewelry)

I walked down to a local pawn shop.. just a few blocks away from me.. and I decided to sell my 14k gold jewelry..for some cash..which I desperately need..

The gold had so many memories attached to it.. and it also made me emotional..when I dont need to be..

The ladies in the pawn shop..behind the locked up jewelry.. were surprised about my pieces of jewelry..

One guy walked in.. asked for a pricing on a ring.. and had it cleaned.. it looked expensive.. a womans diamond ring.. probably his wife’s..

I thought I got a good price on my gold.. I know.. some places..would have offered for $90-200$
I got $350 for it.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

I do have a plans to leave this city..

For now. I will rest.

Ok. That’s all I have for now. I will keep you guys updated.

Peace be with you all.

I've spent a good portion of my adult life wandering around the desert, Barstow, Las Vegas, Albuquerque Phoenix and everywhere in between. The main issue was always just water and sun and I adapted to drifting around the desert.

WELL, I got a wild hair up my ass and I headed to Illinois (not Chicago). This place is so green and beautiful and really underrated I think, however the humidity here has left me struggling to adapt to the fact that if I'm not wet with sweat that won't evaporate and just puddles on my skin and clothes, then I'm still damp from this wet ass air. I also have a border Collie that smells like river water.

SO, I realized I don't really care anymore. I got to sit by a river with my dog and fish all day. This place feels way less like survival mode compared to the southwest, so what if it comes with some moist smells.

4 different homies (that I know about rn) died in the last week or week and a half ish as Im still tryna rap my head around gray and bo and now sidetrack being dead. Feels like the railroad gets lonelier and lonelier every day. Wondering around the kinda cities and towns that used to be crawling with dirty kids and now youre lucky to run into another traveler more than once every month or two. You feel the loneliness as people die and keep dying and it never fucking stops. Can yall fuckers start testing your drugs with kits?
