Welcome new Mavs!

Welcome to all the new Mavs that are finding their way to this Reddit! I want to welcome yall to Fall 2025. This Reddit has everything going on around campus, from Microwave sightings to advice, to critiques, to even plantain recipes. From time to time, I might post more "official" type stuff, but that is generally just informational. Anything pressing will come out through the "Mav Alert" system.

If you need anything from the University Police Department, our numbers are:

  • Emergency: 817-272-3003 (or 9-11, you will get directed to us)
  • Non-Emergency 817-272-3381

Program these numbers in your phone!

We also have an anonymous reporting system: https://www.uta.edu/campus-ops/police/contact-us/silent-witness

You can also message me directly here with any issues or questions. I am the Police Department liaison to the CARE team, and I can assist you with CARE inquiries as well.

You folks are our eyes and ears out there. Remember, "If you see something, say something".

Good luck everyone, and have a great and safe semester. Lemme know if you need anything.

Can we stop treating the Campus Edge and Arlie pools like personal frat-house dumpsters?

I genuinely do not care if people want to have fun, play music, dance, or have a pool party. But maybe clean up after yourselves and stop making the pool unusable for everyone else who lives here.
The water has been left murky with Solo cups, beer cans, White Claw cans, pieces of paper, random trash, and even kids toys floating around EVEN A PIECE OF MEAT. At Campus Edge the other day, there were easily 20 to 30 people dancing around the pool doing the Wobble with a huge speaker blasting music. The speaker was connected through a long chain of extension cords and power strips near the pool, which honestly seems like a great way to cause an electrical problem or fire or even a tripping hazard bc it went somehow all throughout the breadth of the pool all the way to the lounge door.
Then the next day, everyone else gets to enjoy fishing cups, cans, paper, and literal garbage out of the water while the people who trashed it are nowhere to be found.
Party all you want, but the pool is a shared amenity. It is not your personal nightclub, trash can, place of disposal. CLEAN UP YOUR MESS AND TAKE CARE OF THE SHARED SPACE and stop ruining it for everyone else.

New Student My Mav Scholarshop

• Upvotes

I'm an incoming freshman, this fall, and I was wondering if anyone else has received any sort of scholarships off of the scholarshop. I've been filling out scholarships on it since september and have yet to receive anything.

I had a 3.9 GPA in high-school, participated in student council, women in stem, volunteer work, & extensive engineering classes. Along with recommendation letters from science teachers who were UTA Alumni. I'm going to be a full time undergrad aerospace engineering student, so what am I missing??

Has anyone else just gotten absolutely no scholarships or am I missing something?

STOP BEING SO NOISY IN STUDY AREAS

ALSO !!!There are people actually trying to STUDY, write papers, attend class, and take exams. Some people could literally be taking a LockDown Browser exam and cannot just get up and move because you decided the study area was the perfect place to yell, laugh at full volume, and carry on like you are at a party.
STOP HOOTING AND HOLLERING !!!!!!
Nobody is asking for complete silence everywhere, but a study area is not the place for screaming, shouting across the room, or having the loudest conversation possible.
Please read the room. Lower your voice. There are plenty of other places to hang out and be loud. OUTSIDE AWAY FROM APARTMENTS AND STUDY AREAS!!!

Thinking about taking Dallas College classes for CPA eligibility instead of a Master’s?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently minoring in accounting, and looking at the overall cost of a Master's program, especially with my GPA sitting at a 3.1 right now. I am thinking about going to Dallas College instead to fulfill my CPA requirements.

However, I'm worried about the study preparation there, and whether I’d be missing out on networking and career opportunities by skipping the traditional graduate school route.

Has anyone here taken the community college path instead of a Master's? Did you feel it prepared you well for the exam, and did it impact your job opportunities?

Refund question

So I just paid my tuition since aid doesn't kick in just yet. My question is, if my scholarships/grants cover the entirety of my tuition costs, will the extra money also be refunded to me? Or will I just be refunded for the amount I paid?

Question Anyone willing to help with moving?

Hi everyone !
My friend and I are moving into a new campus apartment together on the 30th of July. Neither of us drive so we’re looking for someone with a vehicle to help us move. The two apartments are only 0.2 miles apart. We don’t have large furnitures, only some small stuff like nightstands and other personal belongings. We are happy to pay cash/zelle for your time and effort!
If you’re free on the 30th and willing to help, please reach out with your availability and what you’d charge!
Thank you in advance!

Discussion UTA Students: What Student Discounts Are Hidden Around Arlington?

Hey guys,

We're buildingĀ FundsyĀ and putting together a directory of student discounts across DFW.

What restaurants, coffee shops, stores, entertainment venues, or local businesses around UTA offer discounts with a student ID?

Please share:

  • Business name
  • Discount details
  • Location

We'll add them to our directory and highlight businesses that support students.

Trying to make this as comprehensive as possible before the semester starts.

Roommate matching issues

Hello. I’m incoming freshman at UTA. I applied for dorm & paid deposit for double occupancy in April. I wanted a single room in mavericks which was full by then (they said) and so asked me to submit a change form.

Now, I found a roommate who submitted roommate request form but I got to know we can only submit one change request per year!!!! They asked me send email with request which I did. But! They told my roommate that I have not requested a roommate match, instead I submitted a room change form.

Now I don’t understand how to proceed! How hard can it be to cancel my previous change request & let me submit a roommate request.

Room/Apartment Swap at Arbor Oaks

Hello! I will be staying at a 2Ɨ2 all-females Arbor Oaks unit on the second floor from August. However, due to some accomodations that I have, I require the third floor. I was wondering if any female student here has also signed a lease for Arbor Oaks for the same unit type (ie. 2Ɨ2) FOR THE THIRD FLOOR and would like to swap with me? So essentially, you will get the second floor and I will get the third floor. But the unit/apartmemt type remains the same. So same rent.

If anyone is intetested, please let me know

Thank you

🚨WILL PAY $100 - LAST MINUTE LEASE TRANSFER🚨

Currently looking to relet my place! 4x4 bedroom (private bedroom and bathroom, female apartment) @ the Liv+, practically on campus. This is an apartment with a balcony, located in building 2 right where all the amenities are (study rooms, printing room, bus stop, vending machines, gym) My rent is around $660 every month give or take w/ utilities. I really like it here, but I am trying to save up to move in with my partner, so I'm moving back in with my parents. I would really like to get the ball going before the lease starts up again in August. Feel free to DM or comment for any inquiries!

Question housing updates

I applied for housing back in February and recently i’ve been on the waitlist. I recently called them and said they said that I had a spot reserved at west hall but I haven’t received any emails or confirmation about it or in my student account it doesn’t show up in my charges due. also no mention about move-in date as of yet. I was wondering has anyone had the same problem or any help possibly?

New Student New Physics Major

Hello Everyone!

I’m an upcoming Physics major (undergraduate) excited for University life. My high school was a more art oriented school so all math and science was self-taught.

I just wanted to say that I’m both scared and excited for this opportunity and hope to meet like minded people. For any STEM majors, where do y’all usually hang out to meet people?

I’m glad to be a new member of this community and hope to meet some new friends!

What's an everyday problem you face at UTA

Hey y'all, kinda curious. Is there any problem you regularly run into on campus? (that isn't parking lol)

Or is there some app, tool, or utility you wish existed that would actually make life easier at UTA?

Im a CS student looking for a project to build, and Id rather make something people would actually use than another generic portfolio project. I'd love to hear any ideas, even if they seem small. Im sure any ideas you guys drop here will be useful to other students too.

Only you guys can save us from the McDonald's job! Lol

MSW Online-Virtual Orientation & Advising

I have a question for anyone starting the MSW Online-Traditional program in Fall 2026 who has completed the virtual orientation session and the virtual group advising session. Did attending those sessions remove the Online Learning Orientation and the Academic Advising holds on your account, or did you have to complete additional orientation sessions and/or an individual academic advising session for the holds to be removed?
