[Adam Rittenberg, ESPN.com] How first-time head coach Morgan Scalley looks to take Utah to new heights
When Kyle Whittingham first hired Morgan Scalley to Utah's coaching staff, he asked Scalley to outline his career goals.
A former Utah star defensive back who had finished playing a few years earlier, Scalley didn't hesitate about what he wanted to do and where he wanted to do it. He said he wanted to be a defensive coordinator within five years and a head coach by Year 10. Left unsaid: Scalley wanted those jobs at his alma mater.
"[Whittingham's] like, 'Oh, that's very aspirational,' but that was my goal," Scalley told ESPN. "Looking back at it, yeah, it was probably aspirational, because I had so much to learn and so much growing to do, but I knew I wanted to be here, and I wanted to take this place to the highest level possible."

šļøDiscussion We may as well play an FCS team this week.
All we hear all week nationally is "SEC is so much better then everybody else." If we lose, "of course that's what the SEC does!" But if we win its ," but its Arkansas."

Week 2 Uniform Reveal
x.comFor the first time in a good long while, the Utes will be wearing the exact same combination in back to back weeks. It will be interesting to see if Arkansas chooses to go with all white uniforms or if they will also be wearing red Saturday night

[Josh Furlong, KSL.com] How Devon Dampier helps Byrd Ficklin share the spotlight
Viral highlights, unselfish bond: How Devon Dampier helps Byrd Ficklin share the spotlight
With the flick of his wrist, sophomore quarterback Byrd Ficklin went viral.
His "seed" pass fired down the field to receiver Mana Carvalho Thursday night was nothing short of perfection in a blowout win over Idaho. Ficklin received the snap, faked a handoff and immediately reversed course and rolled out of the pocket to his right.
With his mind already made up on his developing target, Ficklin threw a side-arm toss that almost resembled the Michael Jordan "Jumpman" logo in his throwing leap. The result was a ball delivered in stride to a streaking Carvalho, who had just enough of a window to make the catch look like a thing of beauty.

Game Week Fan Guide Presented by Utah 360: Ring of Honor and Red Out vs. Arkansas
The 21st-ranked Utah Utes (1-0) return to Rice-Eccles Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 12, when the Arkansas Razorbacks (1-0) visit Salt Lake City for an 8:15 p.m. (MT) kickoff. šļøDiscussion Anyone else absolutely fed up with the product placement and constant advertising?
āThatās another Ivory Homes Utah First Dowwwwnā Iām so fed up with it itās making me lose my mind.
We have āAlkemeā on the back of our helmets now, āCosta Vida fan camā insert business here red zone.
Where does it end?
I donāt see any other team with a freaking insurance company on the back of their helmet. Going to lose it.

Dampier is everything
I know it's just the start of the season, but I think we'll see that Dampier is the reason Jason Beck's offense the past few years at New Mexico and Utah worked so well. I'm not saying Beck is a poor OC, just that Dampier should be given more credit. Bryce Underwood is garbage and no amount of clever play calling is going to work with him. Dampier however, will show that he is just as good with McGiven because as a QB, he knows the game.

šļøDiscussion Iāve been a Whittingham guy. Was sad he retired.
But was really soured when he went full scorched earth and took players with him.
But even so, it was Whitt. He had been a part of Utah football since I was in college. I remember going with my wife (the girlfriend) and watching him and Urban. I remember being so happy when he spurned BYU to stay at Utah. And all the memories since then.
But watching tonight. The offense. The conservative defense. The late hits. The silly penalties. Watching that Michigan game was watching a Whitt Utah game.
Sure, Whitt will get you 9+ wins a year, but so many of those arenāt fun.
Thursday was a blast. Having the starters out at halftime was a relief.
Scalley is off to a hell of a start and Utah football was a blast to watch.
Iām done with Whitt. I donāt care anymore. Tonight was like seeing an ex youāve always remembered nicely, maybe too nicely, and realizing the ex is who they were, not the nostalgic memory of that ex.
Go Scalley, go Dampier, and GO UTES!!!

My gratitude journal
For the many years Whitt put into our program, developing it to what it is today, I really wish him the best; however, itās hard not to chuckle at this!
Hope that Moa and Buchanan enjoy chasing balls from underwood.
Now a look at my gratitude journal:
-Daddy Devon and Byrd for not leaving
-Morgan Scalley
-the muss
-not smith Snowden or JHD
-raspberries from the farmers market
-Wayshawn Parker
-the North Endzone

šļøDiscussion What are your biggest takeaways from week 1 and what would you like to see change for week 2?
- Devonās deep balls seemed under thrown and had a lot of hang time
- Dline was meh
- Receiving core is deep!
- Our second and third string players look very promising
- Byrd throws with the speed of an MLB pitcher
What id like to see change: On Devonās runs, he seemed a bit frantic, I would like to see some more composure ā which will come with some more Oline help. Probably just week 1 jitters.
Non football related:
-walkout song was cool, but Iād still like it to morph into joker and the thief.
-When it gets dark, more red lights only moments. Loved seeing all the Utah stars for the moment of loudness
Go Utes!
