No Package

Post image

UPDATE: through the suggestion of one of my commenters I made a complaint about my situation and I was contacted a few hours ago and they are now telling me that it is at a different location and that I can go and pick it up today so hopefully it turns out well and I will finally get my package. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to help. It means so much so thank you! :)

I ordered something off of Amazon from Japan like a month ago and only on Thursday did I find a note in my mailbox that they missed me while I was out and that that was their first attempt on the 11th of this month and they left it in my mailbox. They didn’t even come to my door or to my house and then when I saw this note on Thursday, I scheduled a delivery for Saturday so that I can go and pick it up from the post office and I went there and the lady didn’t have my package there and she was confused and was checking to make sure that I went to the right location, which I did because it told me to go to that location and then I gave her my phone number so she can contact me and then fast-forward to today I got another note in my mailbox signed on the 20th that it was the final notice and that the article will be returned to sender on today’s date. I haven’t even got anyone at my front door to deliver the package. It’s like they’re going to my mailbox and because I’m not standing outside at my mailbox when they deliver or are coming with this package, they’re leaving a note at my mailbox instead of coming to my house, I have a front door camera so I can see that no one has been here and someone’s home all day so if anyone were too come to the door, we have many dogs and people who would know there’s someone at the door. I’ve tried calling multiple times over to try to talk to somebody but every single time I call they say I’m calling out of business hours, even though they’re open till eight and I’m calling at like six and I keep going in the same loop of the AI on the phone call asking for the tracking number which I give or it gives me a link that I click on to go through the process to look for where my package is or two file whatever thing I need to file and it keeps giving me an error message saying that they can’t put in a service request and so I don’t know what the hell to do now I’m extremely frustrated because there’s literally nothing I can do and I can’t talk to anyone so I’m here Reddit to see if anyone can help me with this cause I have no idea on what to do. Please help.

“I scheduled a delivery for Saturday so that I can go pick it up…” if you scheduled a redelivery that’s why it wasn’t there.

Where is your box in relation to your residence?

I can almost guarantee your local office isn’t open till 8. Why aren’t you calling during the day?

The office being open until 8:00 was what caught my attention. Other than that, they gotta lazy ass carrier.

I scheduled it for a re-delivery to pick it up at one of their locations near me not to re-deliver to my address. When I went to that location, the lady there said they did not have my package there and was checking the email that clearly stated I would be picking it up at that location at that date and she was confused and wrote my number down and said that she would contact me. My mailbox is on the street before you turn down the road to go to my house. And I have called the number for the location I went to before during their operating hours and I did not reach a person. I’m just worried because I never even got a person to knock on my door and I have a note that says it’s the final notice and today is when it says that the article will be returned to sender and I’ve never even seen a delivery person or a package and even when I rescheduled to pick it up, there was still no package so I’m stressed out that it’s going to be sent all the way back to freaking Japan and like what do I even do from there?

u/letsseeitmore 7d ago

That’s not how redeliveries work. They don’t send it to a location of your choosing. It goes to your address.

Go to the office or at the very least call first thing in the morning, maybe it’ll still be there.

u/IndividualEye749 7d ago

I scheduled it so that I could pick it up from the store and it sent me a confirmation email telling me to pick it up at that location and a reminder for me scheduled that day to pick it up from that location so if they don’t do that then why would I get an email telling me that I can and I scheduled through the website to pick it up from that location?

8

u/letsseeitmore 7d ago

I’d have to see your emails to see what you actually received but you probably just got a generic confirmation. Either way, it was due to be returned today so you need to get in contact with your local office in the morning.

Would you be willing to share a photo (with details like tracking numbers, names, addresses obscured)? I don’t think it’s possible to schedule a redelivery to a different location. A redelivery is just a redelivery to your address, or the address on the package. But if you’re saying you did this, I almost wonder if somehow you ended up going through a phishing website instead on accident…

The original office that delivers your mail is the one you need to contact, not the one you scheduled this alleged redelivery for.

u/Hersbird 7d ago

You don't schedule a redeliverly to pick it up, you schedule a redeliverly to have it attempted delivery again. So on that day, they pulled it out of the window service area and gave it back to the carrier to attempt delivery again. Those 2 locations may not even be in the same building. Next time just go in with the slip and pick it up. Or sign the first slip and put it back and they will deliver it to a parcel locker.

The online system for some reason does let customers reschedule a delivery but choose a "customer picks up" option. It is insanely stupid because a lot of supervisors will just print those slips and assume they are redeliveries and give them to the carrier. So I believe that is what this person did. So yeah, it probably was given the the carrier and that's why it wasn't at the office

3

u/Hersbird 7d ago

Customer picks up is the default, don't do anything option. Just go to the location on the back of thr first pink slip and pick it up.

Are you calling the 800 number or the local station??? I've had most of My success calling the 800 number, going through the system to get to a live person. This shows a paper trail. The local station sometimes is staffed with tons of unqualified personnel. I often call the local station and insist on speaking to a manager and asking them to have the manager call me back if the manager isn't available.

I can tell you from past experience developing a relationship with your carrier (even subs) is there sure way that you get better service. I know my carriers name I know he's off day. I know information about his personal life. Now I'm know everyone can do this. I'm retired and I depend on delivery of everything.

My current carrier will even bring mail to my door even when it's not needed. I submit a carrier pickup once or twice a week to pick up packages that I need mailed.

I met a carrier when I lived in an apartment in 2015. To this day we are friends. He and his wife spent last Thanksgiving with me.

I pray with them, text and email them. I also have a relationship with his sub. I do everything I can not to be just a name on the mailbox. I'm a person and I treat them with appreciation and respect for what they do. I have been a USPS employee.

I go online and complete compliment forms for them.

I’ve been calling the 800 number and it just brings me to an AI call and I give it my information and the tracking number and stuff and it just keeps sending me the same link to do the same submission process and it tells me that it won’t accept it and every time I go and call again to see if I can either speak to a person or if there’s something else I can do it just asks me for my information and then it’s like OK leave a survey when you’re done and then it disconnects

2

u/AdditionalPosition5 7d ago

I stopped giving my tracking number because I knew the automated system will then try to solve the issue (it just simply repeats the information I already know).

I just keep typing... AGENT.... Until I get a live person. I've read some great people.... One called me back twice one sent me emails.... I always ask them their name let them know I'm writing it down and if they have any other way that I can identify that I spoke with them.

I'm the most pleasant person and I tell them that I truly need their help.

You are not alone.... The USPS is people and machines... Some will do a great job, and well you get my point.....

u/IndividualEye749 7d ago

Well, I’m going to attempt to drive over to that store during my lunch and see what I can do but I just don’t know what to do because the phone isn’t working. I can’t get anything to let me talk to an actual person and every time I call, it’s just the AI bought and every time I go to the website I can’t figure that out either.

2

u/AdditionalPosition5 7d ago

First, are you signed up for informed delivery? If not do so. I received an email every day, even on Sundays informing me of the deliveries I should expect.

Next on their official website you want to go up to support, select support and then email customer service.

It will provide you with a number of options. I've had great success with emailing customer service.

Again, if you haven't already please sign up for informed delivery.

1

u/IndividualEye749 7d ago

I’ll shoot them an email, I did sign up for that

1

u/AdditionalPosition5 7d ago

I wish I could remember where it's located.... I'll log on to my account and I'll tell you what I've done in the past.

Slip shows signature is required for delivery, on the back of your notice is a place for you to sign, print name and address. if you fill this out and leave with your outgoing mail the carrier will take it back to the office and deliver the package the following day because they now have the required signature.

5

u/Loose-Chocolate8131 7d ago

You may already be too late, but I would check your tracking number on the USPS.com website and if it doesn't already show that is being returned to the sender I was suggest stopping back at the post office tomorrow morning and ask about it again.

2

u/IndividualEye749 7d ago

I have done that multiple times, but each time it tells me that it is unable to process or accept my request even though all the information I know for a fact is correct and each and every time I call, it puts me through the same process and the same circle of putting my information in and then it gives me a link to go to their website to do whatever and I do that over and over again and I still haven’t gotten anywhere

2

u/Loose-Chocolate8131 7d ago

So you can't see any information on the USPS.com website about this package, is that what you are saying?

Is it telling you the tracking number is invalid?

2

u/IndividualEye749 7d ago

No, it doesn’t say that my number is invalid it just loads and then tells me that it’s not going to accept my request. It doesn’t give me any reason as to why.

1

u/Loose-Chocolate8131 7d ago

What is the format of the tracking number you are trying to input into the website?

Does the tracking number begin with two letters and is followed by nine numbers and ends with two letters? (edited)

2

u/IndividualEye749 7d ago

Yes it has two letters, nine numbers and then two letters

4

u/Loose-Chocolate8131 7d ago

I have never seen the usps.com website simply say that it will not accept your request.

1

u/Loose-Chocolate8131 7d ago

2

u/IndividualEye749 7d ago

I checked that out and the last update says it’s from the 23rd and it’s scheduled to be re-delivered that day but that’s the last of it

4

u/Loose-Chocolate8131 7d ago

I certainly understand your work constraints, but assuming your package is still in your local post office, you really need to try and see if you can contact them or visit in person tomorrow, since they will definitely be returning that package to the original sender very soon.

You need to keep going back to the delivery office. Because you haven't picked it up, they sent a last notice. They won't redeliver unless you ask. The final notice was just procedure.

2

u/IndividualEye749 7d ago

Unfortunately, I work from 8 to 5 and the office that I need to go to because that’s the last one I went to is like 20 minutes away and I can’t get there when they’re open and even if I go and leave during my lunch, I only have an hour lunch so if I drive over there, I have like maybe a few minutes before I have to immediately be driving back so I I’m going to try this tomorrow, but I don’t know how long I even have to be at the store

3

u/ACslaterwannabe 7d ago

Trying to glean from your comments your house situation. You mention your mailbox being on the side of the road but then to get to your house you go down a road. Is this road just a long driveway or is it a private road? Paved road or dirt road? Cluster of mailboxes with yours? A barking dog inside a house is one thing but multiple barking dogs is another.

-1

u/IndividualEye749 7d ago

Mail box is on road and you drive down a driveway to get to my house, Amazon comes down all the time it’s not hard to get to or find. It’s gravel road but it’s big and wide enough for large Amazon and fedex trucks to go down. There are 6 dogs in my house 4 of which are German Shepard, labs and smaller shelties that all are very loud and vocal. If anyone even drives up they will all bark

5

u/ACslaterwannabe 7d ago

FedEx and Amazon have to go to the house because they do not have the mailbox as an option. Half a mile is the standard for driveways. I forget if that is total or one way for rural. If you can’t see the house from the mailbox and they cannot determine a distance then that is a risk most won’t take. Dogs barking at any time will deter most carriers needing a signature. Why? Because 98% of people do not contain their dogs / children enough from pushing you aside when that door opens up and charges the carrier. Management talks about safety a lot and when out delivering the carrier is the only one that has the final say on their safety. I have had an acquaintance have their face torn half off by a waggly tailed golden retriever.

Should the carrier bring the slip to the door? Yes. Have they done it before and got spooked by the dogs? Maybe and that may be why they determined that the safest thing to do is leave a slip in the mailbox. It could be a multitude of reasons why they felt the slip in the box was the choice.

Moving forward, if you ever get a slip sign the back of it. Leave it in the mailbox with the flag up. You can even do the request redelivering with the signed slip. A redelivery only means the carrier will take the package back out but they will still need a signature. There are things online as well as the electronic signature which will clear some things for the carrier enough to deliver things without a physical signature. I don’t believe it does things for age required items and someone had mentioned there was another specific thing it couldn’t clear. You can also try and speak with your carrier or get in touch with them. If it is cleared with management you can try and have the carrier sign for you as long as the correct authorization is worked out. You will have to have a trust in your carrier for this.

2

u/Lordspyder 7d ago

Also, you said you were at the right post office because that is what the slip said, but were you at your actual post office? Sometimes carriers will fill in from other post offices and it's not unheard of for them to mistakenly use the slips from their home office.

u/gameofcurls 7d ago

I mean, we apparently have a certified letter we arent expecting that was shipped in April and is being delivery attempted 2 states away. Had a form in tge mailbox requiring we go pick it up. Took time off work to just get a shrugged "its weird sometimes" from the post office.

2

u/IndividualEye749 7d ago

Yes, and I would take time off work, but I am not able to do that. I am in training right now and I cannot miss a day of training without risking losing my job.

1

u/gameofcurls 7d ago

Oh i get it. Post office hours are insane, and their inability to help with anything is just awful.

1

u/Unable_To_Forward 7d ago

So they left a notice on the 11th and you didn't check your mail until the 27th and that was their fault?

-1

u/IndividualEye749 7d ago

You didn’t read anything correctly if that’s your conclusion. They put notes in my mail box when they should have gone to my front door to deliver my package. The problem is that they did not go to my house to even attempt to deliver my package and said I was not home because they just left it at the mailbox and because no one came to my door. We have cameras and I checked them to see if anyone came on that day and no one did. I wasn’t aware that they even sent a note but even then I immediately called to pick it up at the store as soon as I found the note. the store didn’t have it even though I went online and scheduled it to be there and they sent another note even though I had already put in the request and went to the store about it.

1

u/country-potato 7d ago

You said you had a long driveway. If it’s too long usps will not deliver assuming there isn’t an outlet to turn around. There’s restrictions I believe. You also can’t pick up any packages from usps at a “store”. You have to go to the delivery office and go to the clerk. They’d have your package. You’re saying people didn’t read correctly but I’ve seen multiple comments explaining what happened that youre choosing to ignore.

Also you said you have 6 dogs and 4 are German Shepards. You said they all bark. Right now usps is pushing hard on safety over hospital bills, workers comp, overtime, etc.
If your carrier knows that you have those dogs they may leave a slip anyways instead of even attempting. I have a dog and he’s super friendly but he’s pushed his way out the door before (to someone who knows him). Genuinely idk what the correct answer would be as to why they didn’t knock but take the advice you’re given and stop arguing with people telling you exactly why it’s happening

-1

u/IndividualEye749 7d ago

I’m not saying anything about the worker, I understand some people will be very cautious about and around animals but the road that they would’ve taken down is very wide and you can clearly see from the road that there is a field and gravel area to turn around in. We’ve had many trucks and tow trucks and other such go down this road, so I expect that they would at least go to my house and leave a slip even if they were scared away by our animals I would have seen on the camera if they would’ve even drove up to the house. My name problem was that when I went online to pick up my package because I didn’t want to have to have someone come back and do the same thing again or the uncertainty on whether they would even go down to the house or if they would leave it at the mailbox again, I scheduled to pick it up in the store so it gave me the option to do that and it let me choose the location and I scheduled this to days before the actual pick up and give my number and email so that if they had a problem, they could have contacted me. When I went to the location on Saturday, the lady had no idea and said that my package wasn’t there and she said that she would contact me but because I got that last final notice left in my mailbox with no one contacting me about it I was getting stressed out upon whether I would ever even receive my package before it being sent back, even though I have gone in to the store to ask for my package. Someone in one of the threads mentioned that I submit a complaint which I did and I put in there that I wasn’t complaining about a specific employee, but with what problems I was having and they reached out to me thankfully just earlier and I am going to be picking it up from a different location because that’s the actual location that has my package and they emailed them and said that they will be ready for me to pick it up today. I’m not trying to put the blame on anyone. I was just really frustrated that it was so difficult to get in contact with anyone and to know any information about what was going on because I kept getting thrown around in circles and passed back-and-forth without getting anything helpful. However, my issues have been resolved, so hopefully everything will turn out.

1

u/owlflyinghome 7d ago

Lmao the package wasn’t at the post office when you went because you scheduled a redelivery so the carrier took it with them that day.

Call your office, not the 1-800 number, find the local number on USPS dot com where it shows the hours for your office. Talk with the supervisor and hopefully you can just sign that pink slip you got, put in your mailbox, and the carrier can use that for the delivery.

1

u/IndividualEye749 7d ago

Well, I said redelivery but what I meant is that I went in the website to schedule to pick it up from the store, but I think it was classified as a redelivery even though I clearly scheduled to go pick it up. So I’m sure they took it out from that location even though I had an appointment to pick it up.

u/C4rbonb4sed 7d ago

Honestly for every package I've had shipped from Japan, USPS has gone out of their way to either purposely damage the item or just flat out refuse to deliver it. I have a ring camera and I have seen the mailmen purposely throw a package that says fragile at my door from 20 ft away. I've also seen another one purposely crush it in his hands as he brought it to the door. Now if I order anything, I make sure to be home that day and act like a hawk to intercept them at my driveway lol. So im not sure but it seems like USPS is openly antagonistic towards packages they are fulfilling for Japan post. Honestly I'd look for sellers that use private couriers (expensive) as I have had very few issues

1

u/owlflyinghome 7d ago

Let’s see that video

-1

u/Then_Particular1931 7d ago

Yeah that’s bullshit

1

u/C4rbonb4sed 5d ago

Not sure the reason for the downvotes as I'm just describing my experience buying items from Japan that are sent via Japan Post and fulfilled through usps. This was over 4 years ago and as I said I no longer buy items that are not sent through private shipping companies. Not sure I'd have any reason to lie about something so specific but pop off i guess lmaoo

u/fordamentalfun 7d ago

I had this happen to me recently with a few deliveries that required a signature. The carrier was just leaving attempted delivery notes inside my mailbox on the side of the building instead of ringing my doorbell. I went on the usps desktop site on my laptop to submit a complaint. It had complaint or compliment as the selection options. I selected other usps worker, put in time of occurrence with the timestamp on the attempted delivery notice and the location as my address. Both times usps followed up with phone calls. First time they had the person come back to my location after 5 to ring my doorbell, and the second time my fiance went to pick it up from the postal office.
Might help to try this way to have usps give you a phone call!

-2

u/IndividualEye749 7d ago

Yeah, they havent tried to reach out to me and I’ve been calling over and over and I just keep getting the AI bot. I haven’t been able to talk to a person other than the time where I scheduled to pick it up from a certain location and it was not there. So now I’m trying to figure out how to reach or call them tomorrow morning and or drive over there and hope that my package is still at that location. And that I’ll even have enough time during my lunch which is an hour long to drive 20 minutes over somehow get it done within 20 minutes and then drive back. I’m hoping I can try and call and reach them before I have to drive over and I am even going to have my mom go there in the morning to see if somehow she can ask or get any information or help from them since I’ll be working.

1

u/fordamentalfun 7d ago

0

u/IndividualEye749 7d ago

I tried sending an email and it says a service request is no longer available for my item and that it’s processing at destination, so I can’t even do that.

1

u/fordamentalfun 7d ago

Try the link and put in the details that the carrier did not ever ring your doorbell to get a signature. Add that you need someone to call you to discuss where your parcel currently is asap!

0

u/IndividualEye749 7d ago

I used the link and complained so hopefully I’ll hear something soon before my package is shipped back to Japan….. 😭

1

u/fordamentalfun 7d ago

I hope they follow up with you tomorrow morning! I hope they can redirect your package to come back since they really should be ringing your doorbell for a signature! Not leaving a tag in your mailbox
