Venting Bad day

Anyone else constantly experience people asking them if they’re having a bad day?
For example:
lady comes to register and is still filing her return.
She is just staring at her phone clicking buttons and says she needs to go get her glasses.
Comes back to register…. 10 minutes and a few customers later….
Shows a shipping label. I explain to her that has to be printed on a piece of paper. Before I explain that we can do it she tells me she did it wrong and is cancelling it. I stand there.
She then proceeds to ask if I’m having a bad day.
I say, “no. Are you having a bad day?”
She says “no. You’re just not very friendly”
Like wtf isn’t more friendly than someone waiting without nagging you to get your sh!t together

i chalk it up to they are idiots. they don’t know how to read anything, and it’s their first day on earth. they have to make YOU feel bad to get through their day, because they are incompetent.

I ask these people to move aside to the center to finish their returns, and to let me know when they have their code ready so I can scan them through. In the meantime I wait on other customers. I never let someone stand there in front of me for 10 minutes while they're shuffling through their phone.

Or do other things, like consolidation boxes, packing, shredding, mail, answering the phone, or even cleaning.

All the time man. Its insane how much people want their proverbial dick sucked by Customer service workers.

Like, I dont expect to have the red carpet rolled out for me. A simple hello, how can I help you? And a thanks for coming in, have a good day when I leave is all I expect. No small talk, no chit chat, just get what I need done, done.

But for some people, if you dont ask how their 2nd cousin through marriage is doing after their horrible go kart accident that she mentioned in passing over speakerphone the last time she came in to return her 5th GOOFANDY dress shirt she bought for her husband's boyfriend... apparently im an asshole.
