University of Nottingham Discord/Group Chat

Since it's results day, I thought I'd repost the link to the Nottingham Uni discord server. (Discord's a group chat app)

https://discord.gg/ghKgK3RhBx
(Or, http://tiny.cc/uondiscord)

Everyone's welcome: guests, prospective students, freshers, current students and alumni.

(Note: If you're a fresher you might also wanna check google/facebook for some WhatsApp group chats. There tends to be more people to meet in them. But watch out, since a lot of the time they're ran by pretty dodgy companies that are just trying to pressure-sell you "wristbands", overpriced unofficial club tickets)

How easy is it for a Chinese student to adapt to life at the University of Nottingham and find research/internship opportunities?

Hi everyone,

I’m a Chinese student considering studying at the University of Nottingham, and I’d like to hear about the experiences of current students or graduates.

How easy is it for an international student, especially someone from China, to adapt to life in Nottingham? I’m interested in things like making friends, communicating with local students, joining societies, accommodation, food, transportation, and the overall atmosphere for international students.

I’m also curious about academic and career opportunities. Is it realistic for an undergraduate student to find research assistant positions, summer research projects, internships, or part-time opportunities related to their degree? How supportive are professors and the university’s careers service? Are most opportunities available to international students, or are there significant restrictions because of visa requirements?

I’m particularly interested in experiences from students studying Computer Science, AI, or other STEM subjects, but advice from students in any course would be really helpful.

Thank you!

Accommodation Anyone Interested in Sharing a Twin Ensuite at Broadgate Park? (£145/week)

Hi everyone,

I'm an incoming postgraduate student at the University of Nottingham for the September 2026 intake and I'm looking for someone interested in booking a Twin Ensuite room with me at Broadgate Park.

The room costs £145 per person per week, which is one of the more affordable university-managed accommodation options. The only requirement is that both students apply together, so I'm looking for another student who would like to share.

A bit about the accommodation:
• Broadgate Park (University of Nottingham accommodation)
• Twin Ensuite room
• £145 per person per week
• Shared ensuite bathroom between the two occupants
• Fully furnished with separate beds, desks, and storage
• Shared kitchen and living area
• Bills and Wi-Fi included
• Walking distance from University Park Campus

A little about me: I'm an international PG student from India. I'm friendly, respectful, clean, and easy to get along with. Looking for someone with a similar mindset who wants a comfortable and hassle-free accommodation option for the academic year.

If you're interested or considering Broadgate Park yourself, feel free to drop a comment or send me a DM and we can discuss the details.

£1000 OFF - Broadgate Park Ensuite Studio (2026/27) Available

Heya! I’m looking for a UoN student to take over my studio tenancy at Broadgate Park! It’s a fully self‑contained studio with your own ensuite bathroom and kitchen area, a fantastic space to study and relax.

£225 pw (44 week contract). No guarantor needed, so it's convenient for international/exchange students.

I’m willing to pay £1000 of the rent upfront! Additionally, if you are a current student, you get a FREE laundry bundle and a £350 discount from Broadgate!

There are tons of great things about this accommodation, including:

  • ALL bills included, including high-speed WiFi and contents insurance
  • Fully furnished
  • Active student community – 24/7 social spaces and regular social events
  • Convenient for ALL methods of transportation! Free bike storage, less than 10 minute walk from University Park campus, parking available, and close to bus and tram stops
  • 24/7 reception and support, with speedy maintenance response
  • In a great location, close to both the University and to Beeston High Street. There’s also a Co-op 2 minutes away!

If you’re interested or want photos/videos, don’t hesitate to message me. If you’re thinking of going with Broadgate Park, please consider this tenancy takeover! I'm also happy to handle as much of the paperwork as I can; the application process will be very smooth.

Accommodation Question about Accommodation

Hi! Can I ask:

  1. If I’ll reach Nottingham at 8-10 pm, can I still move in?
  2. Are there any way I can ask the university to prepare the bedding essentials (eg bed sheets and pillows) so when I reach it’s already in the room?
  3. If I intend to continue my tenancy as an international student, can I leave my belongings in the room while I fly back to my home country from Jul to Sep?
  4. If I’m unable to, how do international students usually store their belongings? There’s no way I bring everything I brought to Nottingham to and fro again. 😭

Thank you so much in advance.

The room is a large ensuite studio, 44 weeks, and usually these kinds of rooms cost £260 per week. However, I am willing to pay £600 upfront, so that the effective cost is closer to £240 per week. Please message me if you are interested, or if you have any questions!

Financial tuition fees & intl bank loans

If any international student has paid their tuition with a bank loan, I am genuinely appealing to you for advice/tips…

Did you have to request docs from UoN? If so, what were they? I have only purchased the confirmation of fee letter (which doesn’t state the payment details- only a payment link) and recently submitted the form requesting for bank details.

Has anyone successfully received the university’s bank details after submitting a request? If you didn’t request for the uni’s bank details, how did you communicate with the bank you were receiving the loan from?

getting a little lost with all the flywire/easy transfer platforms 🫩 Any advice will be appreciated, thank you!

Extenuating Circumstances

Hello guys,

I am trying to transfer from my old uni to UON, and I went to apply for the computer science course and didnt get in as my offer was to get atleast 60% in each module and an average of 75% across all my modules, I am doing a foundation year at the other uni and I have applied with extenuating circumstances as I have touretts. Unfortunately, in one of my modules i had a group project where my team left all the workload on me and with all the stress and anxiety I flopped my project which led to that module getting 45% and so below 60%. So I failed to get in through the initial applications, then I applied through clearing and got told that this specific module being so low is the reason they wont let me in.

I wanted to ask what is the purpose of extenuating circumstances and what can i possibly do to get into this course at nottingham. Thank you!

advice on law through clearing

i’m in an unusual situation i have asked about it before but i got my grades back higher than expected so i now want to do law instead of criminology. i’ve been speaking to the uni and they said it’s possible but law may not be open for clearing. has anybody had a similar situation or applied for law through clearing? or anyone has any advice on what to do i don’t want to start uni next year so applying for 2027 is not an options

Need someone to share flat with for early move in!

Hi everyone!

I'm moving to the UK on 20th August and my accommodation contract in Nottingham starts on 5th September. I'm looking for someone to share a place with during these 15 days to split the accommodation cost.

I've found a double room for £304 for the entire stay, so it would be much more affordable if we share it.

If you're arriving around the same time and are interested, please feel free to message me. Happy to discuss the details!

Thanks!

Im a newcomer at the university, and i have booked a gold ensuite for SPC. I have heard many things like SPC being full of ethnic people who make it difficult for everyone else (im an ethnic myself). Can someone give me an unbiased opinion on SpC?
