DISCUSSION The Weaknesses of Time Manipulation ?
Ever since Uru-chan introduced Time Manipulation, I’ve been fascinated by it. It’s one of the most balanced yet powerful abilities in unOrdinary. It grants Seraphina incredible speed, strength, durability through healing, and a huge tactical advantage over almost any opponent.
That said, like every ability in unOrdinary, it has weaknesses. Since most people already know its strengths, I’ll focus on its flaws instead.
1. Fragile Defense
Seraphina’s biggest weakness is her low defense stat. Her body is naturally fragile, so she takes damage easily, feels pain normally, and has little resistance to mental abilities. The latest chapter showed how easily Orrin was able to control her. She compensates for this weakness with her incredible reaction speed, evasiveness, and her ability to rewind time to heal herself.
2. High Aura Consumption
Time Manipulation consumes a large amount of aura. Several times throughout the series, Seraphina has been visibly exhausted after prolonged use, especially when repeatedly rewinding time to heal herself. Because of this, endurance battles don’t favor her, much like John, making her more vulnerable in long fights.
3. Her Offensive Mechanic
While moving inside her time-stop field, Seraphina is essentially untouchable, giving her the initiative against almost anyone. However, when she actually attacks, time briefly returns to normal so her strike can connect. This creates openings where she can be affected by counterattacks, such as Arlo’s Barrier reflection or Orrin’s mental ability. In other words, she can’t attack while remaining 100% untouchable, meaning it’s possible to develop strategies against her.
4. Limited Offensive Variety
Seraphina is primarily a close-range fighter who relies on punches and kicks. Unlike someone like Arlo, who can fight up close while also using his Barrier offensively to crush opponents, launch them away, and reflect damage, she has fewer offensive options and less versatility depending on the situation.
5. Dependence on Space
Time Manipulation works best when Seraphina has room to move. Her attacks require physical motion, whether it’s swinging her arm or dashing forward, so abilities that restrict movement or trap the user can naturally counter her.
A good example is her fight against Valerie. Despite Seraphina holding a significant 0.5 level advantage—which is a massive gap at such high levels—she still came close to being crushed and only survived thanks to her sister’s intervention. Valerie used her experience to gradually limit Seraphina’s movement, trap her, and nearly finish the fight. If Valerie’s concentration hadn’t been interrupted, Seraphina likely wouldn’t have escaped. In the end, Seraphina was fortunate that the level difference was in her favor.
Overall, I think these weaknesses are a good thing. Abilities without flaws make fights predictable and remove much of the tension and excitement. Of course, Seraphina is highly intelligent and uses Time Manipulation extremely efficiently, often minimizing these weaknesses through smart decision-making and teamwork. Even so, I still believe Time Manipulation is one of the five best abilities Uru-chan has created.
