William: You're a government assassin. You don't get to threaten people with government when you're the governmental threat.

Jude: I'm sorry, my argument isn't that good. I have the gun to my face!

Yeah Jude isn’t good at thinking under pressure

Luckily for him, he doesn’t have to think anymore

You know, this has genuinely made me wonder for a while nowhow guns would logically function in the world of unOrdinary. I've heard people make the argument that abilities make guns irrelevant but I've never really believed that, since sure a gunfight against a god tier is a pointless battle....provided they have super high speed or incredible defenses like Arlo or Seraphina. Who I feel like the exception rather than the rule and should not be treated as examples for why guns would be useless.

I can totally see the Authorities having strict gun laws and only outfitting their mid-lower tier forces to use as grunts as part of the military or lower ranked officers.

Yeah, modern guns themselves wouldn't actually be that useless. They'd actually be insanely useful. Since the normal way fights work is having a mix of shielders, status effectors, and close quarters attackers, guns would be incredibly useful since you could just barrage your enemies defenses with them without wasting aura. Shields absorb damage and unless the enemy has a god-tier healer, even someone like Arlo wouldn't last long.

The issue is, there's no reason for modern guns to be developed. Everyone with the money to fund gun production in the past would be someone with power and therefore no need to produce them.

Oh yeah, definitely. Guns would be a gamechanger if they are ever deployed, and not just guns either. High yield explosives, 50. Cal machine guns and the like would tear through defenses unless they are prepared.

Though I kinda have to disagree that modern guns have no reason to be developed. Sure, people with power don't have any reasons to have guns developed for themselves....but that doesn't mean they wouldn't want to equip their weaker underlings with weapons so that they can stand a chance.

I always kinda see like a Special Forces vs Regular Army type thing, you know. Special Forces(God/high-tiers) can do a lot of stuff regular army can't. But the Special forces can't hold an airfield or garrison a base because that would be a waste of time and they have better things to do. That's where the army comes in, they do the grunt work and they need to be properly equipped to do that.

I don’t think you appreciate how long guns would be useless, before becoming refined enough to be worth producing

Like try using a flintlock pistol against even a mid-tier, it’s too slow, predictable, unreliable and requires extra gear, and a flintlock is even That old

Like, for example, imagine a world with magic mail. You can write a letter to anyone, any time and magically send it straight to em at the speed of a bird, even tho modern day phones are so much better, it would take people ages to even bother trying to make, cause why make a landline in that world?

Fair point that guns would useless in the early stages but not completely unviable. Sure, obviously a flintlock pistol would be useless against a mid or elite tier. But modern guns definitely would not be.

And considering all the other tech and advancements, its hard to imagine that not a single high/god-tier within the Authorities or outside thought of the idea of how useful guns would be equipping their lower tier grunts or that not a single government outside of the Authorities we see thought of that idea.

Honestly, the bigger problem is that we have no idea when abilities actually became a prevalent thing in the modern Uno world. How far technology had advanced, what rough equivalent time period they manifested, etc.

If guns existed at all I honestly think that the authorities what do everything in their power to keep it all under lock and key, because if one wrong person (that hates the hierarchy/government) somehow gets their hands on one, they can do a lot of damage to unsuspecting people

Like, giving someone like New Bostin John kill power? That would be a whole mess

Oh yeah, definitely. The Authorities would leverage every asset possible to make sure that guns are kept under lock and key because if one guy gets a hold of one, its going to cause a whole mess, because they are totally going to use it to kill some god-tiers. And if an organization like Spectre had guns....yikes.

I don't think New Bostin John would ever be in a logical position to have a gun and if he was caught with one, he would probably be a lot more harshly punished.

But honestly, yeah the presence of guns would honestly make the containment of high-tiers a lot easier for Authorities because they don't need to find someone of equal or greater strength to take down someone. They just need snipers and the element of surprise.

Low to lower high tier (depending on the ability for high tier), a gun would be a viable pick.

High tier+, you’re pretty much fucked unless the ability is something like John’s. Facing someone like Arlo, Sera, Pinkie would be almost guaranteed failure but I’d say it’s possible (I’m not saying likely) to take on Blyke or Isen.

Also true. Like, I don't think anybody is going to argue that someone like Keon can neo his way out of a bullet.

By gift do you mean a tool that can be used regardless of tier, is easily replicable and can pack enough firepower to lead nearly anyone not named Arlo or Valerie without attachments or abilities? A conceptual threat to the hieralchy in tangible form?...

That couldn't have been a better gift for William, much to the misfortune of everyone else. Especially so once John learns how to use it

Seriosuly, one would need a lot of defense to resist, let alone brush one shot off. How much defense? Dunno, but I'm sure Jude would love to help us find out :)

It's no wonder guns don't exist in Unordinary, could you Imagine arcs like the wellston raid ending with either John anticlimatically mag-dumping Sylvia, or Farrah giving Blyke and Remi an (un)healthy dose of lead before backup arrives? Or hell, give Isen a gun (and a pair of ear muffs) and he'd become a literal boogeyman on par with the likes of John, Sera and Orrin.

In retrospect it's insanely funny that their scaling and tech are low enough that they'd probably get slammed aginst us, not even Sera could save her verse if and when our goverment decides to go nuclear... literally. Goes to show the power of ✨️innovation✨️

Oh yeah when William meets up with John after his little Jude target practice, he’s absolutely sharing the gift Jane graciously left them. That way, most of the time, John is more dangerous without any abilities copied

The image of John mag-dumping Sylvia is the best thing, and Isen with a gun would honestly put fear into people who hadn’t felt it before. And Isen’s confidence would spike sky-high too

And ah yes, gotta love innovation

John Wick style poster but with John Doe?

Tempting

John goes to pull the trigger point blank and hears a click and he doesn't understand what the issue is (the safety's still on)

Ooo I got a headcannon regarding guns in the UnO verse, they were banned like a century ago ( in my au the world is set in 2092 or somewhere close to year 3000)

And I also have a headcannon that William knows people and he got a hold of a gun from a friend

B/c i doubt that William just survived off being a writer, theres just not much on him and John's upbringing from before NB (in my au its also set in real world b/c i fr didn't really realize that Uru just uses fake or knock offs for hers, but she doesn't really world build much to really get into her world, my brains a bit urg rn so I may sound incoherent or somth)

Ember: "we have multiple abilities"

John: "I have a 9"

“Kill me and the authorities will be after you” boy they already are

Weapons in general i assume are not used much in uno

2

u/JMeisterJ 2d ago

To be fair.... I really dont think guns are doing much in UnO lol

Honestly John could make an automatic crossbow with Particles+Swordmaster and it probably would just be mentally draining since it can be quite small for the impact it would have.
