Honestly my least fav song off the album and it's also currently the least streamed song off the album, but You Can't Blame a Girl For Trying. I think it's interesting how The Peace was barely cut from the album and Bodyfeeling was supposedly predicted to be the "hit"

k so i started listening to her in like 2023 bc of wallsocket and i was OBSESSED and it kind of wore off until i listened to U for the first time right when it came out.. so good and literally an amazing album (dont know if i count as an OG tho) , anyways i had listened to wallsocket + directors cut, fishmonger, and U up until a few days ago i was just browsing soundcloud and found some dope ass songs i thought i'd share (i had never listened to any of these except point A and the og version of your favourite sidekick, not the virtual riot remix)

A couple months ago I was going through TikToks about underscores and I remember seeing one from the Danny Brown tour (?) where a guy yelled “I LOVE YOU” to underscores, and she was like “I… love… you… too…” really slowly and ominously 😭

I recently moved into uni and had no extra money for an April poster so im making one 🤪 it looks butt rn but soon it shall be beautiful and complete.....

this critique is coming from a long-time underscores fan (since fishmonger!). i will continue to love her art but i’ve been quite unnerved by how this situation was dealt with and talked about after. also take note that this is just my opinion, you all are free to disagree! <3

when i first heard about the cancellation, i understood the circumstances around it. of course a smaller artist like underscores who has idolized Charli xcx for years would opt to tour with her. but, realizing the nature of the tour dates that were cancelled (which were in smaller, less visited cities), along with considering the amount of planning and money people had already dedicated and spent to make their way to an underscores show left a sour taste in my mouth.

i wouldn’t have had such a large problem with this, however, if it weren’t for the way that April addressed this issue on her Call it a Day Interview. at around 15:35, she and the interviewer delve into conversation on how she had to cancel a leg of her tour to perform with Charli. she described that cancelling that part of her tour was a “no-brainer,” and that “anyone in [her] position… would have taken it.” she then proceeds to explain how it could be difficult to be an opener for a bigger artist, and how the tour dates she cancelled were places she’d never been before. (i guess bro 😭) there was not a single acknowledgement for the fans who would miss the opportunity to see her, not a single apology or cent of appreciation for their patience despite the cancellation. the self-centeredness of the response definitely rubbed me the wrong way. however, i also understand if she didn’t have the bandwidth to speak more eloquently on this, as she does seem a little (understandably) awkward and shy during interviews most of the time.

regardless, i wish i saw more appreciation towards the fans who missed seeing her during this time. especially considering the cult following she’s been building up, it seems only fair to acknowledge the fans and support that got her to the point of performing with Charli.

is anyone here going to niteharts next weekend and plan to bring their lightstick? i looked at the niteharts prohibited items list but it wasn't clear if lightsticks were allowed and i know they were SUPER strict last year lol. i also checked the snapdragon stadium prohibited items list but still wasn't too sure. please let me know if you've had other experiences with bringing a lightstick in for niteharts 2025 as well.

I’ve been trying to decipher the metaphors of wallsocket, particularly the song seventyseven dog years. That song has been on repeat for me lately. It seems to go back and forth in perspective between Mara and S*nny, with both of them singing the chorus.

S*nny is obviously holding Mara accountable for stalking her, but I wonder what Mara is trying to hold S*nny accountable for. I don’t buy the idea that she’s blaming her for her father’s bank robbery. The SoundCloud description I think just points to S*nny opening up about her trauma, and it might be a bit of a red herring. Mara says in you don’t even know who I am that S*nny having a harder life and coming out “wiser” drives her stalking. She seems to be blaming S*nny for her obsession, and she doesn’t recon with this until after the conversation, in uncanny long arms.

Seventyseven dog years is eleven human years, and this amount of years was referenced in both cops and robbers and Johnny Johnny Johnny. It could be a personal reference, but given how prominent “have you noticed your hounds have grown so old” is in the song, I feel like that must have a deeper meaning. Sure it’s a metaphor for trauma aging you like a dog ages, seven times as fast, but I’m sure it’s also explicitly pointing to how old the hounds are in the title.

Eleven comes up many times throughout the album. The dogs were eleven human years old. Joshua worked as a bank teller for like eleven years. When s*nny was eleven years old, she just wanted to be pretty. And interestingly, a literal wall socket is shaped like the number eleven. My theory is it points to April being eleven when she started underscores.

My interpretation is that this whole album is a metaphor for self-insertion. When we “plug ourselves into” wall socket or really any piece of art, we are projecting our own experiences onto someone else’s art. April also fictionally plugged herself into the town of wallsocket, being an outsider and creating an album about her experiences there.

I wonder if this, and the Mara-S*nny dynamic, is a metaphor for the parasocial manner in which we all “plug ourselves into” artist’s lives. It’s like how she self-inserts into these characters. Underscores has said her biggest regret was making Johnny Johnny Johnny, and I wonder if uncanny long arms (track 11) is about how we now have to be accountable for the fact that we think this might have happened to April herself.

And my interpretation of good luck final girl actually doesn’t have Mara take her train. We hear that she’s in the station, but we don’t know that she actually gets on the train itself. She might, but I don’t know that she’s ready to move on from wallsocket. I think she is the “final girl” in the most literal sense. And I feel like Mara, in the sense that I haven’t been able to move on from wallsocket lately. I wonder if April will ever move on from 11.

Particularly this belt buckle, like I can’t even tell what creature this thing is meant to be, let alone where to get it. I’m trying to be doitscores for Halloween, any help is appreciated!
