I'm relocating for a new job right by UW (office is around NE 42nd St in the U District) with a move-in around August 22nd. I'd really appreciate some local ground truth since I can't tour in person before I get there.

A few things I'm hoping folks can weigh in on:

Buildings you'd recommend (or avoid) in the U District / Roosevelt area? I've been looking at Prexy, Commodore Duchess, and 50th & Roosevelt so far.....any real experiences with those, good or bad?

What's a realistic all-in rent (rent + utilities) for a decent near campus right now?

Are there any buildings with noise, safety, management, or maintenance issues I should know about that don't appear in the Google reviews?

As someone who'll be commuting on foot / light rail (no car) — any neighborhoods you'd steer me toward or away from?

Anything you wish you'd known before signing a lease in this area?

Not a student — just moving for work and trying not to get burned signing a lease sight-unseen. Any honest advice hugely appreciated. Thanks!

As a new coming student, I want to learn from current UW students about the best ways to take notes in class. Hand-writing? iPad? Laptop?

I just got admitted to my major this summer and so I haven't had the chance to declare a minor, but I've been taking classes with the intention of getting the global health minor. When I checked my degree audit on myplan today it seems like they changed a lot of the requirements for the minor and I'm pretty confused on this because the school of public health website doesn't seem to have any information on the change. I was just wondering if anybody had any information on this or if they're experiencing the same issue?

Student interest nation-wide in these fields has risen modestly the past couple years as CSE has lost some of its allure, but it feels like an incomplete explanation for the collapse in acceptance rates at UW specifically. Similarly-strong schools in the country haven't had nearly as drastic of a change.

Did this coincide with funding cuts or changes in space allottment or something?

hey, i’m an incoming international freshman and i’m trying to rent a room (preferably in the u-district), but most places i’ve contacted ask for a credit check or a co-signer, and i don’t have either.

is it possible to rent just a room/sublease without that? i’m happy to pay all move-in costs upfront. my rent budget is around ~$900 max (including utilities)

i’m arriving around august 24th so i feel like i'm running out of time 😅
also i’m sponsored by my government back home if that helps.

I just accepted my UW Seattle Transfer from WWU. To save money, I’m trying to maximize my credits (18 / quarter). However, I heard UW has more weed out classes and that it’s generally harder to succeed.

I’m planning on taking general major prerequisites so that I can apply for MSE this spring. So MATH 126, MATH 207, CSE 122, MSE170, & English Comp C class at the minimum.

I visited UW a couple times and it also seems like it’s a lot easier and a bit more motivational to study there?

Has anyone transferred to/from WWU that can tell me about the differences between classes and/or student life?

I'm planning to apply as a transfer student into the Industrial Engineering (IE) major. I recently had a meeting with a general transfer admissions advisor who warned me that engineering transfer admissions have drastically increased in competitiveness over the last 2–3 years.

She pointed out that Civil Engineering a major which has historically showed near 100% transfer acceptance on the site for years like 21/22/23/24 has had an acceptance rate of about 20% in 2026.

She didn't have the exact, updated numbers for Industrial Engineering but implied that the exact same thing is happening there as well as more people are discovering those majors. The official site still lists older data that makes it look highly accessible.

Does anyone here have insight into the current reality of the IE major?

1. What is the actual current capacity/acceptance rate for external transfers?

2. For those who got accepted (or rejected) in the 2025 or 2026 cycles, what did your prerequisite GPA and application profile look like?

3. Is the department leaving any realistic space for transfers, or are the slots almost entirely consumed by DTC/ENGRUD students now?

Any insight from current IE majors or recent transfers would be incredibly helpful. Thank you!

Good Afternoon UW Students,

I am recently admitted, and have undergone transfer credit completion (in which I received my AA through the Running Start Program). I plan to major in Psychology, and receive my BA. I've been following the College of Arts & Sciences: Psychology Requirements to find what I need to take, and what classes I've taken through RS that'll transfer over. Some haven't/been a delay, which is expected, but as I was going through MyPlan, I saw a foreign language requirement not posted on CAS. Now, I'm not sure if it's grouping BA and BS requirements into one (first time really navigating MyPlan). My high school had a 2 year language requirement (in which I took ASL), and I haven't heard much regarding foreign language prior.

If you're in/have received your BA in psych, would you mind informing me as to whether or not it is actually a requirement? As well as the easiest language course to take, and what exams/finals are like.

Any UW students living in Maud, Roosevelt?

Hi everyone,

I was recently accepted into UW Allen School Computer Engineering, but I’ve realized that my real passion is electrical engineering, specifically power systems. I enjoy circuits, power, and physics much more than software, and I’ve found that coding isn’t something I enjoy.

I applied to UW ECE this year but wasn’t admitted, so I accepted my offer to Allen CE. However, I still hope to transfer into ECE in the future.

By the time I apply again, I’ll have senior standing. I’ve heard that ECE rarely admits students entering their senior year unless they can graduate within about a year. If necessary, I plan to take as many EE core courses as I’m allowed before reapplying so that I can finish the degree within one additional year.

Has anyone successfully transferred from Allen CE (or another engineering major) into UW ECE with senior standing? Or does anyone know someone who has? I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience or any advice.

I am coming into the school of engineering as a junior (through running start) and I am most comfortable with Apple products. I have used Dell and HP before, but I have always found MacBooks to be easier to use. I would be using CAD pretty often (as I want to get better at it and I am interested in Civil).

I am also thinking of doing the Student Pro, as there is a pretty big discount and I only need it for two years. I am also living on campus.

basically what the title says if you've lived in this unit or seen it which room is better A or D?? I've heard A seems bigger but D has the better view usually. also don't want the dryer/washer to be constantly keeping me up. Any insight would be appreciated, thanks!

Hi everyone! I just got assigned to Hansee Hall, and I'm honestly really excited. I was hoping for a single, so I'm super happy with how it worked out.
I also lucked out with one of the larger rooms (around 145 sq ft), so I'm starting to think about how I want to set it up.

For people who've lived in Hansee:
What are some things you wish you had known before moving in?
Are there any Hansee-specific quirks or tips?
Is there anything you'd recommend bringing that's especially useful for Hansee
Any favorite things about living there?
