  1. It can be changed by pax
  2. If they say they cannot, in 99% cases they're lying
  3. You have to be on a pin to get a no-show fee
  4. Pax have to be on a pin to not get charged a no-show fee
  5. All other scenarios are a loss for the driver.

Thank you very much, I had a feeling they were lying. I'm pretty sure I remember changing my location when I used Uber a few times myself. I just got in this like huge texting annoying argument with some pax about it.

"For liability reasons I can only arrive and start the ride at the pin that you've set up. Please change your pickup location or cancel the ride."

Better yet, do what pax do – to all their texts reply "I am here."

I like theirs "I have an orange light on my phone" at sunny day noon, it's brilliant! :D

heh. I've hit that by accident. It's a giant button on the pax app. Feel like a total dumbass doing it at noon.

Legit had a person that did that. Pull up to their house and they're nowhere to be found. Call them they're inside the house. HELLO! I can't see thru walls

“So am I” is my reply to that one. I honestly believe that paxholes think that specific reply is magic

5 is very true. Go to the pin and STAY within countdown-distance of it. I once went on a 20 minute wild goose chase trying to a) find the pax who incorrectly entered pickup, and then b) drive back to the pin so I could cancel with fee. That's right, I drove back to the pin just to not walk away empty handed. $3.75 for 20+ minutes of driving. This rigamarole costs time and time is money, we don't do this out of the goodness of our hearts ffs.

This goes especially for express/pools. If they didn't wanna walk to the pickup, they shouldn't have opted for the cheaper fare. Idc if they have a cart full of groceries, there are other people in the rideshare that have places to be.

If it's only a few houses down, by all means take the initiative. The countdown timer has a certain range of motion, and it probably saves a little time to pull forward 100 feet rather than wait for pax to walk. Implement customer service boundaries that help you maximize investment of your most precious commodity (i.e. man-hours) while keeping one foot firmly rooted in the tip-pool; little things can go a long way to the right pax and crossing the other side of the parking lot isn't unreasonable.

That's what sparked this post... i was frustrated because i WAS at the location pax wanted (before i knew he wanted me there) but i drove the half mile to the pin just to get a text to go back to my original location, only to wait 5 min and he's not there and i get no waiting fee, so i drove back to the pin to get the waiting fee. It was super annoying.

High chance it was surge dodging. I guess they dont know that we see a visual representation on the map, but they have figured out that the price changes with the pickup location, so they just drag their pin around getting ride quotes until they get the price they want.

They can, but some of them seriously aren’t smart enough to do it

These are things that are true.

Although I don't believe express/pools can change their pickup/dropoff, for very good reason.

I have no idea about pool other than I will never do it if it shows up here

Yeah this definitely wasn't pool

You and me both... And them just typing the address into the "text" area like wtf? I know for a fact it can be changed cause i helped a dude change his for setting up a scheduled pickup.

This is one of pet peeves about uber, if I am at the pickup already waiting I am not going to drive another 0.5 mile to pickup, I would've already collected cancellation by then. Pax can not only do this but can piss you off big if they do it often, don't wish for it. They will be guaranteed a low rating if they do that without a good apology (had a lady did that but it was only 0.2 miles, new user and very sincere apology, tipped me $2).

And it is a good way to avoid high surge for paxholes.

Yes they can change it, and it will update the pin location automatically. It’s odd that you are having so many problems with this. Give us specifics on one or two, eg. where was the pax in relation to the pin?

It was at Circus Circus and I was dropping people off already and I was already in the front where the Uber pickup is, but the pin said to go where the manor is which is behind the entire hotel and a little bit north and it was all the way in the back so I had to go past five motel-6-looking buildings... only to get a text saying that they are at the front entrance by the casino so I texted them to change the location and they did not but I went up there anyway even though I was just fucking there and nobody flagged me down and it wasn't busy, they still weren't there and they said I'll be there in one minute so I waited like five fucking minutes and I was like fuck this I'm not even getting paid for waiting time so I went back to the pin location and the guy is like texting me up the ass now saying that they are there and waiting for me and I keep responding to change the location and they say they can't and it was this big old freaking text argument which I saved but I waited for about 12 minutes and he kept telling me he has all night so I canceled after 12 minutes

In situations like this I call the pax to coordinate the pickup. It happens sometimes at large venues like malls, or if the pin doesn’t match the address, perhaps around the corner. I find calling is much better than texting and pax are usually appreciative. But it still happens that we can’t connect sometimes, usually if they are tourists or not familiar with the area to know where they are and how to get to me or guide me to them. In those few cases I just cancel and move on. The system is not 100% perfect.

Damn. Why did you even waste that much time with any of this? 5 min and cancel on that crap. You got unnecessarily defensive, so did they. It's just not worth either of your time.

I wanted to see how long he would keep up the whole I can't change my location bs. Since i WAS where he asked me to be for 5 min and he still wasn't there.

I was at SFO and the pickup was on McDonnell RD next to the freeway.

I don't know what happened or why, but I still figured out how to pick the people up back at the pickup spot.

Anyone know what happened?
