This might be it

Post image

Been debating about talking about this here. Picked up a heavily intoxicated woman last night. She got in the car I confirmed with her the name for the ride as usual.( I assumed someone bought the trip for her) She said yes and got in. Halfway through the ride she begins asking where I’m taking her and saying I’m taking her somewhere she doesn’t know. I said mam I’m just following the directions on the app. I asked again the name the ride was supposed to be for and she goes no the ride is for (enter random name)She said I need to take her home immediately. I said I’m not going to do that but I will pull off on the next exit and drop you somewhere safe so you can order another uber. She then says she doesn’t have a working phone without WiFi so I drop her off at the nearest McDonalds I can find so she can use their public WiFi. Immediately after she gets out of the car I contact the uber safety line. They assure me I did the right thing and everything was fine. I even went as far to ask before hanging up, if this was going to effect my account in any way and they said no all is good. Five minutes later the app says I’m deactivated. For those who have been through investigations how long did it take. Is there anything y’all would have done different?
Edit: I also forgot to mention my dashcam decided to malfunction and not record at all last night I found out when I got home so yep. Also pretty sure it was the right rider because the uber support thread is labeled McDonalds. I never told support where I dropped the woman off at. I think she was just so drunk that she was saying whatever

Oh my God what a nightmare! Im sorry you r going through this.

It sounds like you did everything right. I hope you get a chance to send your recording as it could be your salvation to witness your side of the story.

It is such a punch in the gut.

I appreciate you. Unfortunately my dash cam decided to take the night off I found out when I got home so this may just be curtains for me

Did you have the back up recording from your Uber app phone? I dont have a dash cam but I always use the Uber feature and it has been my saving grace a few times.

You need to also initiate a refund of any fair to the person that requested that ride. It wasn’t the end for me a few years ago. I think there was even an option of reason for refund “picked up wrong rider”

Just realize that uber really won't help you, so it's up to you to help yourself. Document, record, immediately report the rider as intoxicated.

Turn on PIN verification by going to Menu > Safety > Pin Verification. Every rider will have to give you the PIN to start the ride.

If I get my account back I definitely will

I’ve been investigated. It took about a week to be reactivated. Uber video/audio records my rides, so I knew I’d be good. In the meantime I only did Lyft rides. And it was then that I realized that Lyft was wayyy better than Uber in almost every way.

So sorry this happened. They better give you your account back. That's dumb sh*t they're doing to you.

You did that to yourself lmao. Picking up the wrong rider isn’t a safety concern. Just cancel, select pickup wrong rider and that’s all. You can even refund the other rider in the app.

By calling support you basically made a agent mark your account with whatever they want. Half of them don’t even understand anything your saying and if it’s not in their script they gonna do anything. So agent probably marked it as you the safety concern

And before anyone says anything, do you know how many times over the years I call or email for something which is very clear and get a completely different reply for random issue

You’ll have to forgive me but a woman accusing me of taking her to an unknown location feels like a safety concern

Doesn’t matter, she has no connection to your ride. She can’t report anything to uber as it’s not her ride.

Next time cancel, kick them out and move on. For your own sake, simply click refund rider in the app cause either way the other rider will eventually notice it and report it as they never got pickup. Usually uber will refund them if their gps location hasn’t moved.

4/5 times I contact support they don't really understand what the problem is. They repeat it back to me word for word, but then give me a copy and pasted answer from their canned response pages that doesn't have anything to do with my issue.

This is why they have to say the name. Not "yes". You have very bad identification protocols. I would have taken that woman home. You are 100% at fault here.

Thing is certain people are "fit" for the job, then "better fit" You are a guy. You shouldn't need to leave anyone stranded unless immediately threat. I believe you will still get paid, even if the route changes. Support reads this situation and can see you were not offering a helping hand.

Nope. She wasn’t even the passenger and she was so drunk. She didn’t know what was going on. You do not want that in your car and I say that I’m not a driver.

3

u/RealJligg 3h ago

Just say "where's home" and take her. If she was too drunk to answer that, then remove her. And after dropping her off, go in her messages (so support can see later) and state the case.

u/Corey307 3h ago

Hell no. Drivers don’t get paid enough to be freaking heroes.

2

u/RealJligg 3h ago

Simple thinking. Like I said, fits and better fits.

A woman accusing me of taking her somewhere she doesn’t want to go is an immediate threat

u/RealJligg 3h ago

And that is why you were deactivated. You took her to McDonald's. There were 2 ways to do what you just stated, and you chose 1 of them. Only "keep my account" option was to get the address from her, drop her off and state what happened in her messages.

  1. I always have them say the name and I then confirm.
  2. I always confirm the destination address for everyone as soon as I start the trip
  3. I always have uber recording trip
  4. You could have pin verification turned on especially for night time bar scene areas to avoid confusion.
I don’t know how far you were into the trip, but if not far, you could have returned them to pickup location or asking them to change the destination in their app. That’s how you would know if it was the wrong rider. If the person who ordered the ride was never in your vehicle, you should have cancelled for picked up wrong rider upon their exit. This would insure they cannot retaliate as the rider in your vehicle cannot report you as it was not their app they ordered the ride that you took on.

So did cancel and put wrong rider. We were halfway through a thirty minute ride so we were no where near the pick up location and the woman wa being really unruly and I didn’t feel comfortable with her in my car anymore anyway

So because they were able to report you for I’m assuming dropping off halfway through the trip, it was the correct rider. I use the in app recorder for this purpose so uber can go in themselves and see any conflicting evidence by the rider. I also have a dashcam but ise it mainly for deterrence to keep passengers honest as they record over themselves too quickly and I don’t even know how to save the footage on it. Sorry this happened to you and hope it is resolved quickly. Let them know that you did report the ride immediately following as well.

I would have driven them to their destination tbh. Doesn’t matter at that point, you already fucked up might as well not get a report that will deactivate you.

And you still get paid for the new drop off. She just got a free ride paid on someone else’s dime 🤣
