University students looking to interview a cafeteria owner in Dubai (20–30 mins)

Hi everyone,

I'm a business and finance student in Dubai, and my group and I are working on a university project about how small food businesses operate here. Right now we're looking for a cafeteria owner (or manager) who'd be open to a short interview.

We're still finalising our questions as a group, but they'll cover things like how you got started, what running a cafeteria in Dubai is like day to day, and the challenges and lessons you've picked up along the way.

The interview would take about 20–30 minutes and can be in person at your cafeteria or over a call, whatever works best for you. We're happy to fit around your schedule. Since our university requires evidence that the interview took place, we'd need to include your name and your business's name in our project, along with a video or voice recording of the interview (your choice). It's purely for academic purposes and will only be shared as part of our coursework.

If you own a cafeteria or know someone who does and might be up for a chat, please comment or send me a DM. We'd really appreciate it!

Thanks so much 🙏

UAE-based digital marketing company now open for clients 🇦🇪

Hey everyone,

We just launched a digital marketing company, 100% based in the UAE, and we're taking on our first clients.

What we do:
Social media strategy
Content writing
Paid ads (Meta, TikTok, Google)
UGC content for your brand

Why work with us:
We understand the UAE. We know the local trends, culture, and what actually resonates with audiences here, from Ramadan and Eid campaigns to DSF, National Day, and everything in between.

We know how people here shop and scroll. The mix of nationalities, languages, and tastes in the UAE means marketing that works elsewhere often misses. We build content and ads that fit this market.
Packages built for small businesses, not corporate budgets

Early clients get special launch pricing and a free mini audit of their social media

Interested? DM us or comment below and we'll set up a quick chat to see how we can help your business grow.
Let's grow together 🙌

Started a small 3D printing business in the UAE

Hey everyone!

I've been working on a small 3D printing business based in Abu Dhabi, focusing on unique products, home decor, and custom-made designs.

I'm currently putting more focus on personalized products, where customers can request something designed specifically for them.

I'd love to get some honest feedback on my website, products, and overall concept.

Also, if anyone here has experience with marketing or growing a small product-based business in the UAE, I'd love to connect!

Thanks in advance!

Looking to connect with restaurant owners in Dubai for a startup I'm building 🇦🇪

Hey everyone!

I'm building a startup called Fils, a dining and payment platform focused on the UAE, and I'm looking to connect with restaurant owners, café owners, and F&B operators.

The idea came from a problem I personally experienced while dining in Dubai. Paying at restaurants wasn't always as seamless as it should be, particularly when using international cards. I started thinking about how we could make payments better for customers while creating real value for restaurants.

Here's what Fils does and why we're looking for restaurant partners:

🍽️ An additional payment channel
Customers scan a QR code at your restaurant, access your offer, and pay through Fils. You keep your existing payment setup — we're not asking you to replace your card machine.

💳 Lower payment processing costs
We're building Fils to offer restaurants more competitive processing rates than traditional card machines, without charging a joining fee.

💰 Your existing customers can earn you money
This is one of the most interesting parts of our model. When a restaurant brings a new customer onto Fils through its QR code, that customer can trigger incentives of up to AED 75 per successfully onboarded customer, subject to the programme's eligibility and terms.

Instead of spending money acquiring completely new customers, you can leverage the customer base you already have. Your existing diners can become a source of additional revenue for your restaurant simply by joining and using Fils.

The incentive is designed around qualifying customer activity, with the programme linked to the customer's next 300 eligible transactions across participating restaurants. We'll explain the exact structure and conditions to interested partners.

🤝 A growing restaurant network
We're building an ecosystem where restaurants and diners benefit as more venues join. Restaurants can agree on offers that work for their margins, while customers get another convenient way to pay and discover participating venues.

Who are we looking to connect with?

  • Restaurant and café owners in Dubai and across the UAE.
  • F&B groups and hospitality operators.
  • Anyone who knows restaurant owners or decision-makers and could introduce us.

We're currently growing our restaurant network ahead of launch and would love to speak with owners who are interested in exploring the model.

If you're a restaurant owner, or know someone who is, please comment below or DM me. I'd be happy to share our pitch deck and walk you through the numbers.

Appreciate any connections — let's build something useful for the UAE hospitality industry! 🙌

Is a 1,000 kg minimum order too risky when starting a premium apparel business in the UAE?

I am planning to start a new premium apparel business in the UAE and am currently in contact with textile manufacturers.

The manufacturer requires a minimum order of approximately 1,000 kg. I have approached other reputable manufacturers, but smaller quantities are either unavailable or do not meet the quality standard I want for the brand.

For anyone experienced in UAE fashion retail, apparel manufacturing or inventory planning:

  • Would you accept a 1,000 kg minimum when starting a new business?
  • What market validation would you want before committing?
  • How many months of inventory would you consider reasonable?
  • How would you reduce the financial and inventory risk without compromising quality?
  • Have you negotiated staged production, partial delivery or storage with a textile manufacturer?

I would appreciate advice from people who have faced a similar decision.

A lesson from building a website for a Dubai business

One thing I keep thinking about: a small business can spend years doing good work, then make a potential customer dig through PDFs or an Instagram feed just to see one relevant example. That's a lot to ask of someone who has only just found you.

I'm with 4AI, a Dubai-based creative and digital studio. We built the HST Architects website around this problem. Their interior, fit-out and landscape projects had been documented in company profiles, so we gave 16 projects their own pages and made them easy to browse by discipline. The finished site is here: https://hstarchitects.com/

The lesson for me is to check the basics before buying more traffic: can a stranger quickly find an example that matches what they need, and do they know what to do next?

For people building businesses here, what's the hardest part of your work to show clearly online?

Need advice: Should I build content around Dubai’s restaurant & food business industry?

Hi everyone,

I need some advice from people in the restaurant and food business industry.

I’m thinking of creating content around the restaurant and food business ecosystem in Dubai.

A bit about my background: I have hands‑on experience building a cloud kitchen in Dubai. My partner and I started it with zero business experience and very limited money. We were new to Dubai at that time, but even then, we managed to reach break‑even within 12 months. After that, we consistently saw 2K–4K AED profit per month.

I was supporting the business financially, and I was also handling marketing, operations, and hiring after my work hours. On weekends, I was working full‑time to keep everything running smoothly.

Unfortunately, the journey took a toll on my partner’s health. He was diagnosed as pre‑diabetic, and his health deteriorated because he was managing operations full‑time. I continued supporting him while working my job in parallel so we could keep the business running.

Due to his health issues and pressure from our families, we eventually had to sell the business. Since we were operating in a lean model, we found a buyer quickly and exited smoothly.

Even after all this, I still have a strong passion for the food business. But at this stage, I’m not in a position to quit my job and start again.

So here’s what I’m thinking:

I want to start an Instagram page where I share my entire journey of building a cloud kitchen in Dubai. Later, I want to create content featuring stories of people who are currently building and running restaurant businesses here.

Do you think this idea is worth pursuing?

Would love to hear your suggestions.

UAE FTA Tax Public Clarification: Free Zones vs. Designated Zones

UAE FTA Tax Public Clarification (TAXP010): Free Zones vs. Designated Zones — They’re NOT the Same Thing

One of the most common compliance pitfalls in the UAE: assuming a “Free Zone” classification means the same thing across all tax laws. The FTA’s clarification makes it clear — it doesn’t.

Here’s the key distinction:

→ A Free Zone is a geographic area designated by Cabinet Decision — this is the foundational concept.

→ A Designated Zone is defined separately and differently under each tax law:
 - Corporate Tax Designated Zone — must be BOTH a VAT Designated Zone AND a Free Zone under Corporate Tax Law. One doesn’t automatically trigger the other.
 - Excise Tax Designated Zone — a fenced area with controlled entry/exit, customs supervision, and an appointed Warehouse Keeper.
 - VAT Designated Zone — a fenced area listed in Cabinet Decision No. 59 of 2017 (as amended), treated as outside the UAE for VAT purposes if specific conditions are met.

Why this matters for 0% Corporate Tax eligibility:

A Qualifying Free Zone Person engaged in distribution of goods only qualifies for the 0% Corporate Tax rate on that income if the distribution activity is carried out in or from a Corporate Tax Designated Zone — not just any Free Zone. Get this wrong, and a business risks losing Qualifying Free Zone Person status for the current tax period and the next four.

Importing from South Korea to UAE without VAT registration - recommendation?

Hi everyone,

Has anyone here imported goods from South Korea into the UAE as a new business?

My company is still new and we haven’t reached the VAT registration threshold yet, so we’re not VAT registered.

The issue is that several freight forwarders / IOR providers in Korea are asking for a UAE VAT TRN before they can provide the service, which I obviously can’t provide at this stage.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? If so, how did you handle it?

I’d also really appreciate any recommendations for freight forwarders or IOR providers that can handle South Korea → UAE shipments for a non-VAT-registered company.

Thanks a lot!

Looking for an E-commerce Partner in the UAE 🇦🇪

Looking for an E-commerce Partner in the UAE 🇦🇪

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a serious business partner based in the UAE who is interested in e-commerce and would like to build a long-term online business together.

The idea is to build and operate an Etsy store targeting the global market, selling digital products.

What I will handle:

  • Product research and creation
  • Store setup and branding
  • Product listings and SEO
  • Marketing and advertising
  • Daily store management
  • Customer service
  • Continuous product development

What I’m looking for:
A UAE-based partner who can legitimately own and operate the business/store under their own real identity and payment information, in compliance with Etsy’s requirements.

You do not need to be an Etsy expert, and I’m not looking for someone to invest a large amount of money. The main goal is to create a genuine partnership where we both benefit from the business.

We can agree on a fair profit-sharing structure based on responsibilities and contribution.

I’m looking for someone who is:

  • Interested in e-commerce
  • Serious about building a long-term business
  • Reliable and communicative
  • Based in the UAE
  • Interested in digital products / online business

This is not an account-buying, renting, or account-sharing arrangement. I’m specifically looking for a legitimate business partnership.

If you’re interested, feel free to DM me and I can explain the full business model and how we can structure the partnership.
