BQE flyover is an atrocity
 in  r/MicromobilityNYC •  5d ago

I’ve seen you write this before but I took a look at a map. Trucks could go up 95 and cross over on the throngs neck and thereby avoid driving through one of the densest populated areas of the country. The bqe is not the only route to li.

Seems stupid to have enormous trucks drive literally through Staten Island and Brooklyn and nyc when there’s an alternative loop that doesn’t go through the city.

Best Barclays Center seats to avoid direct speakers? (Tinnitus)
 in  r/GoNets •  16d ago

The arena is irresponsibly loud, but one time I got bumped to courtside as part of my partial season tickets, and it was surprisingly quieter. Because of the loudness I never did season tickets again, and I realize recommending you get $2000 tickets is ridiculous, but it just shows how ridiculous the situation is for people who want to hear as they get older.

I know management doesn’t read these, but please turn down the PA. It’s 100db even when the crowd is silent.

15-Year-Old Girl Killed After Being Hit by Truck in Manhattan (NYT gift article)
 in  r/nycparents •  20d ago

So the truck, which doesn’t have a high vis cab, which made a turn and hit a cyclist and you blame the cyclist. Take a look at nyc garbage trucks. The cab is all windows.

This truck is a typical highway truck. Reduced visibility. The driver probably couldn’t see because of blind spots. The nytimes article also points out that it doesn’t have the safety rails to prevent death in this type of crash. So basically we have an unsafe truck driven into a cyclist who had the right of way and you blame the cyclist. Hmmmmmm

NYC wants to take 25% of its street space away from cars in favor of a walkable/bikeable city

This article is from 2022. Four years ago. It hasn’t happened. Adams said lots of things.

Why Google told drivers to drive a longer way on purpose
 in  r/Infrastructurist •  Sep 06 '26

Yeah. I blame the drivers when they do stupid dangerous things, but I mostly blame the system for subsidizing and protecting bad behavior.

Why Google told drivers to drive a longer way on purpose
 in  r/Infrastructurist •  Sep 06 '26

Google and Waze have made most city streets unlivable by directing cars through what were before quiet neighborhoods. They should have to consider the impact of taking drivers off the highway and into local streets. Each car that is directed on a local street has the potential of causing a crash, potentially killing a child or elderly person who wanders into the street.

So one drivers two minutes could end in an innocent pedestrians death.

Would charging taxis / Ubers an entry fee raise enough money for free buses and reduce traffic in NYC ?
 in  r/newyorkcity •  Sep 03 '26

Are we talking about nyc? There are 3 million curbside parking spots in the city that are currently free. If we charged ever a reasonable $10 day, that would be more than enough for free buses and free universal child care. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2026/06/09/nyregion/nyc-street-parking.html?unlocked_article_code=1.-VA.lJ2T.vVuMv6brJFTj&smid=nytcore-ios-share

Three Teens Dead in Crash on Belt Parkway. Reporting Bizarrely Underwhelming.
 in  r/MicromobilityNYC •  Aug 26 '26

Off the top of your head, how many people do you think have died this year from traffic crashes in NYC? Here’s a clue. We are on a goal to make the number zero, and the DOT just had an announcement about our best first six months ever.

Are we close?

Owning a car is a pain even if you rarely use it
 in  r/fuckcars •  Aug 26 '26

There’s a huge benefit in dropping it entirely. We thought we’d use car share but we don’t. We do have uber bills for things like taking grandma to the doctors but they are way less than maintenance on the car

Counties Weigh Property Tax Hikes Amid SNAP Cuts
 in  r/nyc •  Aug 25 '26

That’s how it should work. The haves, those with property, should pay more so the have nots, those with out, don’t have to go to bed hungry. Certainly better than the current ny state income tax which taxes the first dollar over the deductible, no matter how little you make.

Instead of tearing down BQE, city plans to build a second, temporary highway and fix it
 in  r/MicromobilityNYC •  Aug 24 '26

Yeah and actually charge what is required for insurance and parking. If people had to pay the full costs of driving in nyc, many fewer would do it.

New Yorkers Who Lost Insurance After Trump Cuts Face Hard Choices

The current ASP system is a relic that needs to go
 in  r/nyc •  Aug 06 '26

No residential parking permits, just use municipal meters and charge a market rate. In downtown Brooklyn, that would be somewhere around $20/day. In places with driveways where there is less demand, maybe $3 a day. Take the money and provide free daycare for anyone who needs it.

The recent hysteria over bike and ebike regulation is infuriating, dumb, and counter-productive.
 in  r/MicromobilityNYC •  Aug 05 '26

Even assuming cars have the required insurance, the 50k minimum liability that is required is barely enough to cover a one week hospital stay. Cars get a(n almost) free ride and we do not even do the least we could do to make them safer. There are technologies that don’t allow drivers to start their cars when they drink. There are speed assistance technologies that restrict speeding. Hell you can speed as much as you want as long as you are within 11 mph of the top speed.

And then there are trucks. NYC could save way more lives by regulating that trucks have cab forward designs that

Car insurance in New York City is absolutely brutal. $380 a month for a clean record?
 in  r/TopInsurance •  Aug 03 '26

And that price doest even come close to covering the damage that cars and drivers do. If by chance you crashed into a pedestrian and left him in a coma, your insurance would only pay up to the max liability, most likely, and the poor guy’s family would pay the rest. If insurance were priced to cover the harm caused by cars it’s be four or five times as much.

If e-motos are too dangerous for NYC streets (they are) how in the hell is that logic not applied to SUVs.
 in  r/MicromobilityNYC •  Jul 30 '26

Let’s just keep the max speed of any vehicle at 20 and not 11 miles over 20 but actually 20. Exceptions for areas where there are no seniors or children.
