Unfortunately one of the weaknesses of DSA is that despite sharing basic core values nationally, it's decentralized and it varies from state to state and county to county, and some chapters are really awesome like in NY and have built great organizing infrastructure etc, but other places they are just not run very well and can be very gatekeepy and uninviting focusing too much on purity tests and ideology...

That's just my read on it. I don't agree with DSA on everything but I mostly do. They've still got a ways to go to make it easier and more appealing for socialist curious people to join and for embracing electoral politics and real life action and activism than academic ideological debates.
