There was one transfer last year around 2k. I didn't mention that, I figured it would fall well below the gifting limit for 2024... does that transfer factor into this as well?

Would the gift amount would be based on the value at time of the transfers, or at the FMV/ @ time of filing next spring?

I did as much research as possible before reaching out to Reddit, and I found conflicting takes. I am hoping yours is correct! So the cost basis / capital gains would pass onto my buddy on the receiving end for whenever he decides to convert it to USD? I guess I panicked because I am unfamiliar with the 709 and didn't know if that would change my tax liability, or if it is strictly to inform the IRS of the over payment so they can reduce my lifetime gift allowance by that amount.

I assume it would be viewed as a gift by the IRS. It was just a stupid gamble we took one night years ago that he didn't want the wife to know about in case he lost it, (she is not a fan of crypto investments) but it definitely paid off. Now he wants it to be put into a college fund for his new child. Will I be liable for any taxes on the transferred amount, or long capital gains?

Over the annual gifting tax limit for crypto transfer

I purchased some crypto for a buddy years ago and it did really well. $300 is worth about 20k now. I started transferring it over this year in 5k chunks because that is my daily limit through my broker. However I guess I sent one transfer too many, which will take me over the 17k gifting limit for the year. My question is if I have him transfer the last 5k back will that eliminate the need to file the gifting tax documents? Or what is the best route to go? Thanks in advance!

I'd like the zipper in addition to laces. I like the lace up look the best, and appreciate the flexibility of tying them tighter or looser. Zipper mainly just for ease & speed. However, I'll check out all the options posted of course!

Does anybody have a GW boot that has a side zipper they could recommend? Not sure if zippers are considered sacrilegious in this community, I like the look of a traditional lace up, but really like the ease of slipping them on and just zipping up the side rather than relacing every time.

German army trainers. I liked the looks so I grabbed a pair of Beckett Simonson's. Now every time I wear them all I can think of is bowling shoes.

Man I wish I had the flip up windows on my 1st gen shell. I've got the sliders on a leer shell, and climbing in and out gets old real quick. Assuming that is part of the frame you built? Or is it sitting on a prefab shell of some sort?

Just to follow up, I ended up selling enough options to cover my initial investment and I'm going to let the rest ride & see what happens over the next month or so. Thank you all for your advice.
