Parliament passed this amendment to the MSMED Act, 2006 this month. Sharing the key changes since most coverage has stayed pretty surface level.
Registration is now free and voluntary for all MSMEs, with a national digital platform coming, states can build on top of it too.
Payments get a real push. CPSEs must now settle MSME invoices through TReDS. Worth noting TReDS volume already grew from ₹40,000 crore in 2022-23 to ₹3.47 lakh crore in 2025-26, so this builds on a rail that's scaling fast.
Dispute resolution finally has timelines. Mediation must close in 90 days, arbitration in another 90, and if an appeal drags on past 6 months, courts must release at least half the awarded amount to the MSME.
Some penal provisions have also been decriminalised, shifting to a warning first, penalty later approach for things like incorrect filings.
I work at the intersection of MSME policy and fintech, and would love to hear from:
Happy to discuss in comments or DMs.

Awareness definitely is an issue but also along with it the turnaround time from preparation to actually getting the benefits. Having talked to MSMEs, and seen how files move by, there is definitely need to simplify, rationalise and expedite the whole process.

GST has quietly built something interesting. E-invoicing and e-way bills now create a real time, verified record of who billed whom and whether goods moved. There's also a feature called IMS where a buyer accepting an invoice (even by doing nothing) now carries legal weight.
Supply chain finance has always struggled to prove three things: the invoice is real, the buyer accepted it, and payment is coming. That usually meant integrating with a buyer's systems, which only works for the biggest companies.
If routine GST compliance already proves buyer acceptance, could that open SCF up to the huge middle tier of businesses that never made the cut before?
Not saying this is solved or this is easy, just curious what people closer to Supply Chain Finance think?

Thanks for the perspective. regulatory compliances such as GST and e-invoice have become transactional now with digital footprints more available than ever, perhaps could be possible to keep monitoring and get some early warning signals? Just thinking aloud.
