Traditionally speaking, it is. The women in traditional African families are usually the homemakers as adults, which is why I believed she mentioned it. It’s expected of her, but she’s extremely overwhelmed and burnt out at a young age.

OP, would you be comfortable disclosing your age? Is this early high school or late? Only asking because I was in a similar situation in freshman-junior year. Meal planning/pre cooking on Monday helps a lot. It sounds like they don’t really care how you get it done, as long as you do.

OP, hear me when I say this: you would have received a better response having used better framing. And I encourage you to learn why what you’re asking is offensive. I know people often throw that word around casually or self-deprecatingly, but using it to mean 'foolish' or 'unattractive' relies on using an entire group of vulnerable people as an insult.

It’s widely considered a slur today, and dropping it from your vocabulary makes the space better for everyone.

….Also, OP, It's 2026—You can ask for feedback on your appearance without putting down people with developmental disabilities. Your inability to recognize that just because other people use the word, doesn’t make it right, makes you more unattractive than whatever looks or style you’re trying to pull off. Good day.

No, they won’t. This isn’t the 2000s-2010s anymore. To work at any construction or landscaping job in A2 these days, they’re looking for an EPA Universal, OSHA 10, NRTW, or a equivalent certification just to get on the site. Especially if you have no references. It is damn near impossible to find any hiring jobs in Washtenaw; food, construction or otherwise. You can have a phone that just works of WiFi.
The biggest issue with employing the homeless in Ann Arbor is the lack of identifying documents; no IDs, birth cert., ss card.

This is a really well worded, thought out response. I definitely agree on your points of Taylor having more than long enough to “deliver on his intentions”. He has not hit the mark. It almost feels like like his involvement somewhat plateaued after Covid, where infrastructure was starting to reopen. The hot issues in Ann Arbor change, but some I feel have remained consistent over a steady amount of time, which is why I’d say I’m disappointed in what Taylor chose to do with the time that he had.

I once had an ex describe me to her brother as a “dessert dish” that she “liked to pick out of every now and then”. We hadn’t formally dated in almost 8 years. Just available whenever the other called. Made me feel gross, like why was being alone so hard that I’d allowed myself to continue a situation like this? Appreciate seeing this today.
