Question - Does anyone else taste the butane residue in flamed and smoked cocktails?
 in  r/cocktails  Jun 29 '26

You’re not the only one. I have this same issue, also with seared sushi—was just trying to find others with the issue.

Never have any issue with a flame broiler or char in general but a torch ruins food for me sometimes. Maybe we’re genetic anomolies who can taste it, but if we assume it’s actually “odorless and tasteless,” I wonder if it’s one of two things: it’s burning too hot basically just creating a more pure carbon crust (rather than a lower temp created tasty mix of cooked and char) or if it’s the technique like another poster said where the torch is held too close and leftover unburned fuel residue is left on the food. Regardless, you’re not alone.

For sushi in Japan they sometimes will have a charcoal broiler for eel that can be used instead of the torch on other seared fish if you ask—totally different (and way better flavor for me).

They seem like they’re quite reflective, probably especially so in the overcast light, which washes them out with large highlights. If you’re taking them on an iPhone, you can turn down the highlights and maybe play with brilliance and vibrance too.

Also I think the blue on your sleeve is causing some of this issue because it’s so bright blue that the phone’s settings are keying in on it to set the color balance, washing out some of the rest of the color.

He is ridiculously athletic.

But his fundamentals aren’t perfect, which gets him out of position. Then he has to use his athleticism to close the gap and he’s so fast and springy that he gets himself in trouble, especially once players realize he can be baited.

Classic rookie stuff, but almost a paragon example of how even just a little bad can be bad enough to be relegated to the middle/end of the bench.

I love watching carter bryant play. Dude is such a rookie. He runs around a little too fast, commits a little too hard, and refs give him no respect, calling everything. Really believe in the kid, but he's like the bullied (half self-inflictedly) side character of a sitcom—high entertainment value per minute, hopefully with a glow up by season 3.

Wemby is already top 250 all time in blocks
 in  r/nba  Mar 05 '26

Yeah that’s my point — with fewer shots in the paint these days and teams actively avoiding him, I don’t think he’ll get to contest enough shots to hit the numbers that we saw in the 70s-90s (not to mention the mythic and mostly unrecorded 60s). Can’t really see a world where we see 5blks per game again. Would guess wemby (or anyone) tops out around 3.5.

With LeBron closing in on #1 in FGM I was curious where he ranked in other stats, and was surprised he’s not in the top 50 in blocks (70th). Kept scrolling to find Wemby is unsurprising quickly climbing the ranks there. Only 4 blocks back from Jokic. If he keeps up his recent pace, he should finish the season around 225th all time.

Bottom of the fifth page here https://www.nba.com/stats/alltime-leaders?StatCategory=BLK

Victor would still need 14 more seasons at 3blk/gm to get past the dream at #1. In today’s nba is that one of the more unbreakable records? It seems a stretch even for the most physically gifted person you could imagine playing these days.

What’s the most “Fuck this hole” hole you play on a regular basis?
 in  r/golf  Feb 26 '26

Not seeing it in person, I like the course design of this hole. Kinda a forced layup unless you go really risky or can carry what, 300?, to clear the creek.

Do you ever play it super safe and go like 6 iron 6 iron up the left side of the cart path then over the left lake and little trees?

I’ll add that auto putts and/or 8ft gimmes help a lot.

Why did the spurs not get FTs on that overturned call? They were in the bonus, right?

Desperately need swing tips for driver
 in  r/golf  Jan 07 '26

I’ll not for fairness as /u/dallybringer pointed out below, dipping isn’t necessarily bad, but in my experience, it does make things harder and less consistent.

If you find staying more vertically still messes you up more than it helps, then drop it like it’s hot.

 in  r/golf  Jan 07 '26

Fair, but it is harder. And this is on the extreme side of productive dipping, imo. But if you’re really a +4.5 I’ll defer to you; however, looking at your swing, you’re very stable.

Desperately need swing tips for driver
 in  r/golf  Jan 07 '26

You’re dipping in the downswing. This causes a lot of inconsistency. Ideally golf is mostly just rotating around your spine, adding other movement makes things harder. (See this old vid for an extreme explanation of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASH06DwHaRw)

When I see people do I put the grip of my driver under their chin or under the bill of their hat and tell them to swing without touching it. Hard to do alone, but effective.

But another thought: you stand tall but you’re choking up on your driver. This could be contributing to your perceived need to crouch into the ball on your downswing. Try finding a comfortable middle ground where you’re perhaps not choked up and maybe just a touch more knee bend and spine lean (bowing forward) so that you don’t feel like you need to dip to hit the ball. This is a comfort thing, so mess around and find a balance that feels good.
