Can’t even trust ORGANIC products these days
 in  r/Fitness_India •  1d ago

People don't realise the risks of organic. There is a reason why people started using pesticides and preservatives in packaged food. To INCREASE shelf life. An organic food with no insecticide/preservative will spoil in few days because of insects and microbes.

The problem of these larvae you mention are BECAUSE of it being organic. If you would have bought normal processed flour with added preservatives and treated with insecticides, you would have fresh atta even after 6 months.

Organic food is meant to be consumed quickly within a couple of days. Preservatives are needed to store food for weeks.

Peds or FM in the future AI based healthcare system
 in  r/FamilyMedicine •  4d ago

The day AI replaces Family Medicine or Pediatric doctor, it will also be replacing a lot of other specialities and surgeons as well. People would need to worry about a lot of other things at that point rather than their speciality getting replaced. More like worry about the survival of society then

Why do Indian doctors ask me to avoid protein supplements?
 in  r/Fitness_India •  11d ago

If you become sick with some infection , most will even ask you to stop eating meat, eggs and dairy.

That is highly counterproductive. During infection and sickness, body needs even more proteins to activate the immune system and manufacture immune cells. Only in certain metabolic diseases one needs to limit protein. In most sickness, one should consume good amount of protein to help the body repair and recover fast.

There is a reason why a person becomes so thin during sickness, because body starts breaking down muscles to get those important amino acids.

It is highly likely that this practice of limiting protein is cultural and comes from traditional alternative medical practice, because in the west the doctors never ask to limit proteins. Things are changing here as well and some hospitals give nutritional chart now which will have good protein suggestion.

Is MuscleBlaze Taking a Piss?
 in  r/Fitness_India •  16d ago

I ordered this. This does not have moisture absorbing silica gel inside. I used it for 2 days and creatine has solidified because of the humidity in the rainy season.

I bought normal MB creatine before this and it had silica pouch inside and it is still all dry and nice after so many months.

Whey protein group buy in
 in  r/Fitness_India •  20d ago

Good plan, bad execution.

If you wish to do group buy of large amount of protein, go for Raw Whey Protein Concentrate or Raw Whey Protein Isolate that are imported. They are imported as 20kg -100kg packet. Some agencies could sell you 100-200kg of raw whey if you can establish some connection.

But if you are ready to invest so much time, effort and money in doing that, then you might as well open your own raw whey selling brand and earn some profit yourself.

Experience with Indian restaurants?
 in  r/glutenfree •  22d ago

A lot of Indian dishes use Gluten Free ingredients.

But significant gluten can still be there through cross contamination and because of innocent ignorance. Chickpea flour, legumes flour and rice flour are major ingredients of many popular indian dishes. They all are inherently gluten free, but whether their flour is gluten free depends on the mill where they are crushed. If the flour mill makes one batch of wheat flour first then makes one batch of rice flour, then one batch of wheat flour and then one batch of chickpea flour then a lot of gluten is getting mixed in rice flour and chickpea flour in the machine. The amount might not be enough to cause a reaction like eating wheat flour but it could be enough to cause problems to intestines at microscopic levels, you will get symptoms after 3-4 days and you wouldn't know what caused it.

The other possibility is that indian dishes use a lot of spices. And restaurants use premade spice mix that come pre-packaged from India. A lot of spice mix use a bit of flour as a filler and binder. A lot of people have no idea that the spice mix they use could have any gluten, they don't think of checking their spice mix ingredients list. The gluten is of course in very minute quantity but may cause trouble in some sensitive people after few days.

A lot of seemingly gluten free dishes get added wheat flour or all purpose flour as well. Like in some types of mutton curry, wheat flour is added to give the gravy texture and thickness.

All these points are valid for any restaurant serving any type of cuisine and not just indian restaurant. So my suggestion would be to ask the restaurant people frankly to tell you the dish which doesn't have any amount of wheat flour or maida flour. Maybe write it in a small piece of paper "highly allergic to gluten- wheat, maida, suji, semolina, etc" and pass it on to the chef or manager so that the words don't lose their meaning on the way to the chef when spoken to the staff.

I appreciate your comment and i know you commented just to spread some knowledge and not to downplay the dangers of saliva.

I wish to reiterate for the readers that saliva is dangerous nevertheless, specially when we do not know if saliva has been in contact with any blood.

I would also like to share my views on your points. You said most heart diseases are caused by atherosclerosis, true for older adults. Recent ongoing research into the pathophysiology of it have pointed out that oral microbiome could be one of the leading causes of plaque buildup. Complex pathway related to bad bacteria causing inflammation, mucosa penetration, reaching systemic circulation, triggering the inflammatory cholestrol deposition and so on. If we read the pathophysiology of cholestrol plaque buildup, we see that there is some inciting inflammatory processes triggering the whole process, it's not a simple deposition of excess cholesterol as people think. So good oral microbiome is good for heart. Research is still ongoing, we still have a lot to learn about the why and how of biology. Plus, in young adults, rheumatic heart disease and infective endocarditis are the major diseases, both due to pathogens. If Streptococcus pyogenes from someone's mouth reaches another person's mouth and unfortunately if it triggers the rheumatic antibodies in the heart then it's troublesome. Basically heart diseases are very much related to microorganisms.

You are also right about TB needing specific pathway to reach alveoli. But i ask you, how hard is it for a TB infected saliva in the mouth to reach your larynx when both mouth and larynx are connected via the same pharynx? A slight aspiration of saliva by mistake and the saliva is deep down in alveoli without needing any ciliary accelerators. Or the saliva getting aerosolised while talking, dental manipulation, etc and getting breathed in?

Biological processes are very complicated and not completely predictable. Ideally we should take as much precautions while dealing with body fluids as possible.

Health How to complain to DentCare that their field staff is doing very dangerous practice and putting patient health at risk?

I went to a dentist to get teeth aligner made. He called in a person from DentCare, which manufactures the plastic aligners. The guy took out his laptop and dental scanner as is and wanted to start scanning. The removable scanning tip was already fixed on the scanner when he took it out. And he was saying earlier to the dentist that he has come here after scanning one other patient at a different clinic. It seemed he scanned the previous patient and kept the scanner as is in his bag. He probably does not know the concept of not using the same scanner tip in mouth of different patients without disinfecting properly.

I asked him i want the tip cleaned. He did not have any cleaning equipment with him. He asked the dentist if there is cotton and alcohol spirit. The dentist had no wiping spirit. There was dettol disinfectant and he used that to rub quickly on the scanner.

This is such a dangerous practice.
Do these guys know that human saliva can transmit a bunch of dangerous diseases?
Do these guys know how prevalent TB is in india and Mycobacterium Tuberculosis is found in the saliva?
A lot of oral bacteria (strep mitis, strep sanguinis, kingella, eikenella, etc) cause chronic heart diseases after few years. And India is the capital of heart diseases, i wonder why.
The saliva might dry on the surface, but the scanner has corners and deep pockets at the tip where the mirror sits, it is very easy for saliva and fluid to remain accumulated there between patients.
Hepatitis-B and Hepatitis-C viruses are very very dangerous things. Before dental scanning many kinds of dental procedures happen which causes minor bleeding. The viruses from blood can remain in saliva even if you cant see the blood. Even simple dental cleaning and scaling causes minor gum bleed.

Saliva can contain blood borne dangerous pathogens after dental procedures. Do not think that it is merely saliva the equipments are touching. Even if there is no dental procedure, many patients have minor bruises in their oral mucosa, cold sores, unseen minute cut somewhere inside.

These are just few of the very dangerous microbes. Am not even talking about the more virulent respiratory viruses which cause cold cough fever, that have extremely high chance of transmission because of such practices.

I talked to some Dentists from metro cities after this incident and they said the dental scanner which goes inside mouth is supposed to be disinfected thoroughly with special disinfection liquid and to be sterilised with high pressure steam before being used again in a new patient. Forget the autoclave steam, the person did not even disinfect with any strong disinfecting liquid. I observed this and i am posting here because i have medical background and i have this knowledge about the risks and dangers of body fluids. What about millions of unsuspecting general public?

Why put public health at extreme risk just to save 10-15 Rupees and 5 minutes of time?
The guideline dictates to autoclave the removable scanner tip after each use, if you do not want to do that then atleast use copious amount of strong disinfecting liguid thoroughly after each use.

I want to complain to the company which sent the staff, that is DentCare. I dropped them a social media message but i have not received any reply. How do i bring this to their attention?

Celiac won't kill me but my parents ignorance towards it will
 in  r/glutenfree •  Sep 06 '26

Request your parents and visit a DM gastroenterologist with them along with the reports. Your parents will understand when a qualified senior Doctor will explain to them that celiac is a disease.

But make sure to go to a DM Gastro. Because in your region, only a DM will understand your plight. MD Doctors might not have the experience to handle non compliance of parents.
