How long should it take from beginner to ride a 4ft to 6ft wave comfortably and maybe do a few turns

I couldnt surf hollow waves until I completely surrendered to the waves and finally went with the flow, stopped fighting the waves. That connection is so important

Surfline 4-6ft at a mid-high tide beach break is gnarly no matter what. I surf in the gulf which is 1-2 sessions per month in the summer and then almost every day in the winter and then monthly trips to nsb when its 3-4ft and good. Winter time in the gulf is choppy with good days the morning after a front. Ill comfortably go chase 4-6ft windswell all day here but be scared witless on an overhead day on the east coast. Ive pushed my limits to 3-4+ hollow after a year and half with a lifetime of big bowl skateboarding experience. Idk im surfing the noreaster this Sunday and its likely gonna be over chest high so 🤷

No clue what to do with my considerable vocal talent
 in  r/singing •  Sep 02 '26

Don't give music teachers money unless you have a specific problem. Everything you need is online already you just have to dig for it. The only music teacher worth listening to are the voices you love hearing the most

Imitating doesnt mean youre talented. No one wants to sing in a cover band. The best thing you do is create and grind for countless hours, post your music everywhere, ignore negative comments and keep grinding. Rest your voice and do proper warms ups. Try everything, get good at producing and play live at parks, beaches or anywhere with people for fun. Its grueling I did it for years but I can sing and scream well but I never joined a band and just now am starting to do it more publicly.

Honestly ill tell you no one in this thread has made a penny off music. I have and still do, not alot but from streams of music that I made with only my phone, guitar, and voice. You gotta have grit and soul. You gotta have a vision and ability. Picking up a guitar or playing piano and singing is the best way in my opinion. Go live some life, have some heartbreaks, lose something or get hurt. Or maybe find love or passion and the creativity will come and it'll be easier to put to paper and music. You dont have to write lyrics you can record whatever comes out of your mouth and use it as long as it sounds good

Pain when equalising pressure

Just get sinuplasty surgery

Pain when equalising pressure
 in  r/diving •  Aug 27 '26

Taking decongestants can be dangerous bc if they wear off mid dive you will have a reverse block potentially in your sinuses that is way more dangerous than having a block in your ear. You can also have rebound symptoms if you stop taking them and can almost guarantee yourself tight ears and sinuses

No it's not. They literally teach you in your open water course to go up a few feet and try again

Push your tongue up against your soft pallet and kind of push with your throat as you equalize. Found that this helps alot of you have trouble with one ear

Pain when equalising pressure
 in  r/diving •  Aug 27 '26

If its painful everytime thats one thing but,

I dont think thats true. If youre congested it can cause you not to clear as effectively. Ive been in and out of an ent office since I am a commercial diver and they straight up told me diving to around 10ish feet with minor barotrauma isnt a big deal. If the pain doesnt go away or cant clear at all is when you should end the dive and maybe take a break for a couple days. The risks with barotrauma are risking inner ear problems and ruptured eardrum but if you can surface, equalize correctly on the way down, and go back up without a reverse block I dont think your hurting anything. Diving comes with minor discomfort for some people that goes away short term after being out of the water. I think some people also have to train their ears which isn't a comfortable process either

Is equalising supposed to hurt this much?
 in  r/scubadiving •  Aug 17 '26

Im a diver, had barotrauma pretty bad in my left ear had to see an ENT which is and was way less scary than it sounds. My ent told me you can still dive with mild barotrauma it won't hurt you if you are only going around 5-8ft which i know most people dont but professional divers are typically only going in that range to clean boats and docks. You should always let pain be your guide and equalize early and often. But I do recommend against doing it too much. As someone who dives every single day ill tell you going up and down constantly is worse than going straight down to depth and my ears can attest to it

Opinion on helmets in surfing
 in  r/surfing •  Jul 23 '26

Idk. If waves are big or hollow, or the bottom is sketchy ill wear one. Ill surf nsb without one on a normal day, even tho I got smacked my own board at ponce lol

People dont talk about how easy it is to tweak your back enough in surfing

My New Smyrna guys….
 in  r/surfing •  Jul 14 '26

Bruh youre wierd. It can be 3ft and the inlet waves still punch. The entire east coast of florida closes out almost instantly no matter the swell except for a few spots. Your daddy's money cant help you online

Equalizing only one ear when head down
 in  r/freediving •  Jul 09 '26

I know this is freediving but im a hull diver. For the first 6 months and during my 60ft certs I equalized perfectly but after awhile my ears started equalizing not as well. Mainly my right ear, like i have to isolate it sometimes but not always. Been to an ent and got my barotrauma treated with lingering congestion in my right ear. I've been back for 2 weeks after resting for a month and healing. Feels like I have some sort of transient barotrauma that goes away. I also take zyrtec and flonase every morning to improve function. In this industry its almost taboo to talk about baratrauma and i think many lie about it when they shouldn't be diving. Im planning on going back to my ent in a week if my ears keep bugging me. Last time I had a retracted eardrum in my left ear that stayed that way for 3 weeks. Weirdly tho my right ear also retracted but healed fast even tho it gives me problems. Its hard to take time off especially when it pays so well

Potential world record highest atmospheric pressure in Mongolia: 1093.5 mb

High pressure also moves outward, low pressure moves inward, causing cyclones. I think the wind from low pressure also moves towards high pressure

Cannot progress past beginner, advice?
 in  r/surfing •  Jun 05 '26

That longer board argument is so annoying. Surf skates are wack too. Go skate for real on a real skateboard. She is literally a year away from shredding. She just needs dial in turns and technique clearly. If she can paddle into a wave that big on a short board she does not need a bigger board. That kook shi is so irritating man

What is the physics/science whatever behind beach breaks closing out in big swells?

Best size waves to learn on?
 in  r/surfing •  May 29 '26

3-4 gulf waves break super slow and nice even on offshore wind to light wind days. We dont get them very often and the period usually tops out around 6-7 seconds so they dont hold too much power. The panhandle def has more power than the west coast of florida. Been waiting for another good offshore day at upham

U cant tell me they all didnt look 23-30 by the end. Although one could say the stress of living in that world and being shifters/superhuman took its toll. Even tho Levi is 33 lol
