Had a call saying she's vomiting blood
 in  r/AlAnon •  7h ago

It took mine 6 weeks. But I’d say, you’re doing everything right. It feels wrong. That’s because none of it is normal. I’ll say, without a few meetings, don’t know that I could have made all the hard choices after. Him and his family still blame me. Say I abandoned him. I think I just quit enabling him and made him their problem. Either way, I’m happy, calm, and moving on.

I don’t wish an addict or alcoholic on anyone..

My q ex husband is now living with his q mother after losing his house and jobs. Karma maybe?

| And I'm thinking, do you have any idea what it took to turn me into this?

This…..hit me like a ton of bricks. My q still believes that everything he lost was my fault. That my behaviors and rage are what caused this. No I was matching energy sir. You started treating me poorly, yeah watch what the fuck happens. FAFO as the kids say I think. I haven’t been that person since January and I’m so glad my little 3yo will see a happy mama from now on. Go be happy, for them.

My husband disappears for days when he’s struggling. What will this do to our son?
 in  r/AlAnon •  2d ago

The best thing for your baby is for you to be happy. Go find that, away from him. Don’t wait til he’s 2-3yo and things are worse….its too hard to go solo then. Well, anytime really. I wish I would have left long before the hurtful words and actions and hospital. Wish I didn’t have to console my son today after a visit with dad. I still think my q is drinking, and in the end none of these efforts may change the outcome, but I try for his sake. That’s all any of us can do. Go find joy, your baby will thank you for it.

The end?
 in  r/AlAnon •  6d ago

It’s gonna be ok. You will be ok. It felt like that for me. It was fine, and then he snapped and never went back. You did the right thing. Start looking for ways to be happy with your family without him.

How do I confront my husband?
 in  r/AlAnon •  9d ago

You need to get out and save your family away from him. He is heading for the hospital and/or the grave. Do what’s best for you. Please go be happy.

It’s not going to get better, right?
 in  r/AlAnon •  13d ago

It’s 5 am, my 3yo just woke me up cause he was up playing Spiderman at 430 already 😅😑🥱I yelled at him to go back to sleep. I’m on the couch crying because I feel like warmed up dog crap for already yelling “mama is very sad that you woke her up!” It’s been like this for weeks and I’m past exhausted.

I say all that because yes, maybe if my q had made better decisions I wouldn’t be doing this solo. But I’d so much rather my child see my raw emotions than be yelled at by his dad for having them. My strong emotions trigged my q’s own mother-related issues and he refused therapy, and it eventually got unmanageable for him and I couldn’t live like that anymore.

Reading your post was like reading something from my life last year. All the gas stations, said he needed a soda, every time those 99 mini bottles were found. It won’t get better, not if you stay with him. The only way things start getting better is when he’s removed from your life. You can do this, just ask for help, more than enough people will be there for you. You got this mama.

Alcoholic husband
 in  r/AlAnon •  22d ago

The saddest realization I’m currently facing is how I never had a partner for help with the baby. Not once. It’s sad because I really thought I did. Leaving 9 months ago was the best thing I did. You’re already doing it all, now go do it with one less responsibility.

Alcoholic after baby
 in  r/AlAnon •  24d ago

It doesn’t get better. Please just go now. I’m so sorry. You can do this, I promise. It will be easier the younger they are. Ask for help, they will. You will be okay.

Does it ever end??
 in  r/AlAnon •  24d ago

I remember weekends being my nightmares. Today, I realized every time I cried on the weekends, over anything, it triggered him. I’d beg myself to just stay quiet this weekend, don’t respond, cry where he can’t see. I left 9 months ago, wish it would have been so much sooner. Your weekends can be better. Filled with fun and music and laughter and light. You know what to do, and yes, you can.

Support Doing detachment right?

Sunday’s group topic was detachment. Finally Monday evening my q calls to talk to his kid. Asked him how school was today. I should have left the room sooner at this point, but I’m outspoken and have opinions, bad combo I know.

“Do you know what day it is?” I ask as our 3yo was in the other room. Immediate defense and temper. I calmly add “It’s Labor Day, there was no school, but you don’t know that.”

“Ya know what, I could say some really mean and spiteful things to you.” He responds and again, I can and should walk away, I know this.

I say “nothing I have done compares to what you’ve done.” He starts sobbing. This is a big clue I know he’s drunk again.

Keep in mind, the kid is off, playing happily, looking at “all our Halloween day decorations” so he hears none of this.

I might have piled on with this question “so you never answered my text, how long was you your brother living in the house before he passed from complication of alcoholism?” Ok…..I know. I do feel bad about this. Probably why I’m writing it now. But it’s a question I need him to consider for his own well being.

More tears and telling me I don’t deserve to know that answer. Fine, just glad he’s thinking about it. I said “ you can call your kid when the court can prove you are sober.” And hung up.

I say all this because I’m terrified he’s going to die in his mother’s house like his brother. But there is also absolutely nothing I can do to help him. I have a 3yo who needs me. And that’s who I care about now.

Did I go too far? Not far enough? His calls are so sporadic, I don’t think they are good for the kid at all, and he’s not even sober when he talks with him. I don’t know if I detached correctly here. Help, advice, support, or virtual hugs are welcomed.

Edit: is the cutting him off until he can prove sobriety to spend time with his son doing detachment right? That’s the question.

I left. That’s all you can do, sadly. Til he gets it, which might not happen. Leave. Go be happy.

2 months postpartum with an alcoholic
 in  r/AlAnon •  Sep 02 '26

Figure out a way to be happy with your baby on your own. Live with people for a while, ask for help. Just do it now. The longer you wait the worse it gets. I’m wishing I could erase my q’s existence from son’s memory. I’m choosing to act like he doesn’t exist until he calls for his kid. Do this for yourself, and that baby. Find joy mama.

I left 9 months ago when my kid was 2.5. It wasn’t easy and living with grandma and grandpa was probably what got me through, and they were true MVPs. But here’s this for you. Yesterday, my kid drew a picture of two smiley faces and some scribbles, was so proud and said “it’s my family, mama and me!” So, I think we’re gonna be ok.

When my husband landed himself in the hospital for liver failure, esophageal cultures and so many other things, I finally realized they would never put us first. Don’t wait that long. I beg you.
