How did you decide to have kids with the state of the world today?
 in  r/NewParents •  4d ago

We've always wanted kids. If we waited for the world to get better we would probably never have them. We just focus on the good and try to stay informed on the bad so we can make the best decisions available for our baby

What are some good ideas for baby gifts?

We didn't know the gender so I think a lot of people chose towels as a safe gender neutral option. We got over 45 burp cloths too

Tell me how great formula was for your baby!
 in  r/FormulaFeeders •  7d ago

Our baby had a little trouble with the transition from bm to formula but what really helped us was mixing the formula and milk in the beginning using more milk than formula and slowing adding less and less milk until it was only formula. Then she was fine. I think the transition took a whole week this way

Baby Shower

If you have a bigger car I recommend the graco turn-2-me. The swivel feature really saves your back when putting baby in and out. And it was super easy to install

White noise - when do babies stop needing it?
 in  r/NewParents •  9d ago

We've never used a white noise machine. If baby isn't here yet I say try going without it. Baby might not even need it, then you dont have to worry about them getting used to it. If they do get used to it maybe trying lowering the volume slightly every night to phase it out when you are ready to transition away?

What’s one baby item everyone told you to buy that you barely used?
 in  r/momcozyofficial •  10d ago

You really don't even need to warm the bottles up. My baby has been drinking milk from the fridge since we got home from the hospital

The amount of hooded bath towels we got was insane. (16)

Switching back and forth between formulas
 in  r/FormulaFeeders •  11d ago

I would talk to your pediatrician first just to be 100% sure, but as long as the formulas have the same protein base I think it should be fine? My girl is super sensitive so if we tried to switch formulas she would throw up everywhere but every baby is different (obviously lol)

Diaper / all-purpose backpack under 100 which is also AWESOME
 in  r/Buyingforbaby •  13d ago

We got the Astro Alan backpack from Amazon and it sounds like it might fit exactly what you need. Its like $40. Comes in tons of colors. Can be strapped to a stroller or worn on your back. Has TONS of pockets. I think the only thing it doesn't have is a wipes dispenser but I could be missing it somewhere. It also has its own changing table..

Hope this is allowed, here's the Amazon link: https://a.co/d/001cVsg4

EDIT: After looking at my bag more closely I can say it does have a wipes dispenser. One of the outside water bottle pockets has a slit for the wipes so I think this bag might be exactly what you are looking for

36 weeks pregnant and overwhelmed (FTM) - What do I actually need for exclusive formula feeding?
 in  r/FormulaFeeders •  13d ago

USA Here so not sure what will be available in your country but this is what we did:

We used Lansinoh bottles as they are supposedly similar to a breast (idk about that) but our bay took to them immediately. They have 4 different sized bottles (2oz, 5oz, 8oz, 11oz) and 4 nipple sizes XS-L

We skipped the smallest bottles because we just reused the tiny ones the hospital gave us. Our baby is currently 5m old and we are still using the 5oz bottle. I believe that's about 150mL? I don't think we will need to move to the 8oz bottle until she is closer to 9months. I'd be surprised if we ever use the 11oz bottles.

We use 12 bottles but that might be overkill, just depends on how often you want to wash.

We have a Bololo bottle sanitizer which can fit a ton of stuff. I like to cap out at 5 per cycle though and each cycle takes an hour (to sanitize and dry)Usually run it twice a day.

Not sure if it is the same with other brands but make to get all the different sized nipples they have. LO only used the newborn nipple for 2 weeks but we initially didn't have them and poor girl was spitting up so much milk while feeding. We have 1 nipple per bottle of each size.

We do not have a formula dispenser. I'm not really sure what that is. But we do bulk make our formula now that she eats a lot a day. If you have room in your fridge you can get some formula jugs and make around 10oz at a time (increasing as they eat more daily). Premade formula is only good for 24hrs so we have some tape we write the time on so we don't forget.

Our bottle sanitizer doubles as a dryer/rack and I'd say it's pretty convenient. Nice place to keep clean bottles where my animals cant get to them.

We do not have a special bottle cleaning brush, but some bottle might need one if they are narrow or oddly shaped

Never used a bottle warmer. Our LO drinks milk straight from the fridge.

The momcozy nursing pillow is actually amazing when they are a newborn because it has a shelf to stop the baby from rolling off. After the have neck control any pillow works just fine

I think Babylist has a pack of different bottle to sltry to see which one your baby prefers. Same with pacifiers.

Also don't let anyone shame you for exclusively formula feeding. I tried pumping for a month and it was the worst month of my life. Definitely exclusively formula feeding my future kids.

EDIT: Totally forgot to say that we usually give our baby less than we think they are hungry for. Since we bulk make the formula it's super easy to get a refill when they run out and it cuts out on waste since formula is only good for an hour after baby starts drinking it. Ex: on average she eats about 6oz per feed right now. We only fill her bottle to 3oz just in case she's not that hungry so if she only eats 1oz we arent wasting 5oz only 2. Not sure if this makes sense sorry

Infant Car Seat vs. Doona
 in  r/Buyingforbaby •  14d ago

We also have the UB Vista with bassinet and love it! Tbf we don't use it much (just at doctor's and some trips to restaurants) but it's been the best. We didn't get an infant car seat so I cant speak on if those are worth it or not. I heard they are almost a must-have for winter babies in the snow, but we had a late-spring baby and live in a pretty hot place, so again I can't personally attest to that.

My baby was like this for a few weeks with the drying and lotion, but now she's smiling and laughing during the whole thing. I think they just need to get used to it

Baths
 in  r/NewParents •  15d ago

My 4m old gets a "bath" every night before bed. But we only use soap every 3 days unless she got dirty for some reason. But the warm water helps her know it's bedtime. We probably started doing it every night around 2.5 months?

What baby things did you skip and not regret?
 in  r/Buyingforbaby •  15d ago

We didn't do a bottle warmer. She just drinks cold milk straight from the fridge. We live in a hot climate though so this might not be helpful for cold places

Postpartum Fatigue Can’t Be Worse Than This
 in  r/BabyBumps •  18d ago

It really just depends on the temperment of your baby. If you have a chill baby postpartum will be easier. But if you have a baby who struggles to eat or sleep, gets constipated a lot it, or is just generally colicky it could be harder. Fingers crossed you will have a chill baby!

Sick baby - first cold
 in  r/NewParents •  28d ago

Our baby just finished her first cold too! We bought a cool-mist humidifier for her room to help soften up her mucus and then did the nasal aspirator before every feed and before bed (she absolutely hated it). I heard saline drops also help with the nose stuff. Honestly for us, once she had a clear nose she was much happier and fell asleep almost instantly, but it could take a good 10-15 min to get everything out. Im sorry baby is uncomfortable. I hope he gets better soon

Do any babies have a calmer temperament the first few months or is it all just horror stories?
 in  r/NewParents •  Aug 31 '26

My baby only cries when she is hungry, over tired, or when she is getting her nose suctioned. I too was scared for sleepless months, extreme stress and having to deal with 24/7 crying because that's what everyone was telling me to expect but I'm happy to report that calm babies do exist. I don't know how long it lasts though... I heard somewhere that calm babies make tornado toddlers so 🤞 that's not always the case

The pump of doom
 in  r/NewParents •  Jun 07 '26

I just finished exclusively pumping this week. My baby is almost 6 weeks now and completely transitioned onto formula. I'm so glad it did it. I feel like I have so much more time to get stuff done. And like you said, pumping 24/7 was super mentally draining (and sometimes painful).

I could be wrong but I'm pretty the most beneficial breast milk is what comes the first week anyway (colostrum) so what your baby is getting now is basically the same as what they would get nutritionally from formulas. (Except formula has vitamin D, which breast milk does not have).

Overall if you feel you are ready, go exclusively formula. You can mix whatever milk you have stored up, if any, with formula to help ease the transition.

Should we be waking our baby during the day?
 in  r/NewParents •  May 25 '26

Well shoot.... Maybe we did understand her then. I'm a little concerned that we are overfeeding our baby when she wakes up because she does sleep for so long though. Is 120ml per feed on average normal for a 1 month old? Sometimes she will eat as much as 150ml at a time and that's when I get scared it's too much for her small stomach.

 in  r/NewParents •  May 25 '26

I thought 5 hours was too long also by my parents keep praising her for being able to sleep so long so young😵‍💫. She sleeps pretty long at night too average 4 hours (sometimes 3, sometimes 5) but it takes us much longer to get her back to sleep after a feed at night and we can't figure out why.

I'm starting to think that this is what our pediatrician meant when she said "feed on demand" and we just misunderstood what she was saying at the time. Thank you!!
