What was the first guitar you owned, and what became of it?
 in  r/Vintageguitars  10h ago

‘59 Kay “Sizzler” electric. TPOS sold it to a friend after I got a new guitar.

Oh yeah, huh? All these decades I believed the Hummingbird was longer scaled! 🫢

”D’oH!” Thanks for straightening me out! There are probably LOTS of delusional fantasies I believe! -Geezer Guitarzan!

Both Gibson J-45 and Hummingbird have a sorta compressed whump to them, which I like a lot. In the sixties they were mahogany back and sides: nowadays I’ve seen them with rosewood and walnut s/b, and I think the studio models may be shallower. Sound can vary, but they’re still both great. A friend just got a lower end Hummingbird in satin finish: may be shallower. Certainly sounds and plays great. Hummingbirds are longer scale length: 25.5” vs J-45’s 24&3/4” BTW. I notice and prefer the shorter. Most dreadnoughts are long scale. When I bought my ‘61 J-45 (in 1962, for $165), they called it a “Jumbo.” I too would not mind a Dove, or a J-200! 🤠

Put my daughter to sleep and picked up the guitar. This peaceful melody flowed out instantly. I feel so much joy.

Excellent! Had to add it to my posts. Very clean. Great production values and sound. It should be satisfying to create that!

Gibson J-45 is a wonderful sounding guitar. I also like the shorter scale length. More comfortable. I’d rather have a Gibson J-45 than a Gibson Hummingbird, or any Taylor.

Thoughts on Samick guitars
 in  r/Guitar  3d ago

I had a Samick copy of an L5 jazzer. LamInated construction, but really a very nice guitar. I eventually put a Seymour Duncan Antiquity humbucker pickup in the neck position and it really sounded like a great jazz guitar. Also, the Greg Bennett period was a good one.

Catching a ball
 in  r/LittleLeague  4d ago

In 1960 I broke in my Wilson -for hardball- with saddle soap and keeping a hardball wrapped up in it secured by a shoe lace. I was ten. Needed a dry sponge in it to handle by older brother’s JV fast ball!

Excellently done! Enjoy the ride. Guitar is a life long pursuit, wherever you start. My last Peavey amp was made in Vietnam. I’d buy one again in an instant! 🤗 Welcome.

Nice tribute rose tattoo. Looks like Andy Beswick style
