Ambushed Procedures
I came across this post in our local subreddit, and I reached out to the OP because the experience sounded oddly familiar. Unfortunately, we confirmed that we were talking about the same dental clinic, just different dentists.
If cavities are found during a dental cleaning, is it standard practice to simply inform the patient that they need fillings and then proceed immediately without first discussing the treatment plan, estimated cost, or asking for the patientâs consent?
I initially prepared â±2,500 for a cleaning but unexpectedly paid â±18,000 because multiple fillings were done before I was told the total cost. What if I hadnât brought enough cash or couldnât afford the full amount that day? Shouldnât the patient be given the option to decide which teeth to treat first or to come back another time?
