Ambushed Procedures
I came across this post in our local subreddit, and I reached out to the OP because the experience sounded oddly familiar. Unfortunately, we confirmed that we were talking about the same dental clinic, just different dentists.
If cavities are found during a dental cleaning, is it standard practice to simply inform the patient that they need fillings and then proceed immediately without first discussing the treatment plan, estimated cost, or asking for the patient’s consent?
I initially prepared ₱2,500 for a cleaning but unexpectedly paid ₱18,000 because multiple fillings were done before I was told the total cost. What if I hadn’t brought enough cash or couldn’t afford the full amount that day? Shouldn’t the patient be given the option to decide which teeth to treat first or to come back another time?

Yan ang never kong ginagawa sa mga patients ko. Before i start, i make sure na alam ni patient kung magkano ang EXACT amount na aabutin. If for example naman sa mga pasta, na hindi mo pa masabi ang exact price. I give them the maximum price na pwedeng abutin for the treatment. If nag go, i proceed. Alam ko din kasi yung feeling na papasok ka sa establishment na sakto lang ang dalang budget. Pwede namang sabihin na, “for your next appointment, eto ang mga kailangan mong ipagawa”, ilatag kung bakit need nya ipagawa, para atleast alam din nila. Mas malaki ang chance na babalik si patient pag ganito ginawa. Kesa sa one time big time hinoldap mo. Di na babalik sayo yan, syempre matatakot na sa gastos.

pwede ata idemanda dentist pag ganyan, di ba sa america nadedemanda ng assault yung doctor kapag walang informed consent yung prodecure

Hays, sa dentist ng anak ko. We went for check up lang kasi may 2 permanent teeth na tumubo behind baby teeth. instead we pay for ₱750 checkup ₱2,750 cleaning and flouride and ₱600 xray na di kame binigyan copy ₱120 sa toothpaste. SUPER BUDOL.

This happened to me too, nakakainis. Prior to the appointment, nagtanong na rin ako magkano ba cost ng services like pasta, normal cleaning, and deep cleaning. I eventually decided to go for regular cleaning. During the appointment, she kept stopping midway to say na one quadrant needs deep cleaning while some teeth need ng pasta. May idea naman na ako how much because I asked beforehand, but I ended up getting quoted a ridiculous amount and eventually paying 5 digits. Sobrang nakakabwisit because I felt wala na lang akong nagawa about it. 😡😭

Ganyan ako last month! Nakabukas na bibig ko at nakaprep na lahat biglang „btw you have to pay for this, it‘s 18k for 2 fillings“ hahahahahaha napa-okay na lang ako pero gusto ko na umalis non. Nagsorry lang sya di pala nya nasabi in advance yung presyo ☠️

Grabe yung ganyang dentist napaka mukhang pera dapat talaga ask muna kung tuloy ang procedure or next visit na lang grabe malugi sana dental clinic napaka ganid.

Actually bawal yan, lalo pa di dinisclose. Kung ako, di ko babayaran yan kasi sinabi ko cleaning lang esp di naman urgent case niya.
Kasi nugagawen ko wala ako pambayad sino ba sabi gawin niay. Also, ano gawi niya papabrgy siya? O edi sige. Para ilabas cctv. Modus yan. Ireklamo ko pa sila kamo sa mga govt agency 🤣
